The show is based on a guy named Jeremy Wade and he goes around to various parts of the world catching strange, and often dangerous fish. They've caught everything from piranhas to tigerfish to freshwater sharks, and more. It's an awesome show for anyone who is interested in fishing or even those who just like to see weird stuff. The show is already onto season 5, which is why i can't believe there hasn't been a thread about this. Next week, they're doing a 2-hour special on the lochness monster, which I highly doubt, no guarantee, they won't catch, but it should make for an interesting show anyway.

Now, a little bit about the host, Jeremy Wade. He describes himself in the episodes as a biologist, and "extreme angler." Apparently he was a teacher before and had various odd jobs. I just have to say I love this guy as a host. He has this British accent that is just soothing to the ear, and he's not afraid to get dirty trying to catch fish.

I also like that the show tries to examine the fish and most episodes usually have stories in them. What I mean is, it starts off with Jeremy Wade investigating some far-fetched story in some remote country and then he investigates by talking to the locals, scratches off fish that can't be responsible for the incident, eventually identifies the fish, and catches it. Yes, some of the stories and descriptions are exaggerated, but certainly not as much as some other "shock" nature shows.
The show has also disproven some theories about species such as piranha and that they're not just bloodthirsty fish. They actually won't go after a live human, and Jeremy demonstrated this by going into a tank full of piranhas and even jumping into a river in the Amazon.
Anyways, I highly encourage anyone to watch this show.

I like it, liking fishing myself. Also he actually catches something every time he goes fishing, which is eerily different to those bs Bigfoot/Lochness Monster finding shows.

Been watching this a lot recently, that Chernobyl episode was fucking creepy man.
This guys is a total baller though. In filming this show he's had to fight an alligator with a fishing rod, got in a plane crash, was taken in as a suspected foreign spy, and jumped into the Amazon River. And it's a great show if only because it's not "HERE'S THIS MYSTERIOUS CREATURE WE NEVER EVER LET YOU SEE", he regularly catches the shit he's going after.

Yeah that Chernobyl episode was really well done. But I do think there were some better episodes in the season.

Which episode was the Chernobyl one? Or at least which season?

Probably one of my favorite tv series :D watched all the episodes wish more came out and faster!! Myself i use jerk fishing while hunting for large pike here in Sweden

I'm so glad other people love this show. When he caught that colossal tigerfish in the Congo how it wouldn't recover and they ended up eating it and he was so disappointed that he couldn't release it. Reminded me of Rex Hunt's fishing adventures. But he's had like 2 episodes in Queensland in the Fitzroy river and what a coincidence it runs through my town. My uncle and I caught a small bull shark in it. And I like how he explains the local culture behind each monster. Like the big mouthed creature stealing kids of the creek banks in Japan - and it was a massive Salamander. Ugh so glad that there's a thread for this.

This shows amazing. I'd love to have this mans life. Just fish everyday for amazing fishes.
|
This guy is intense as fuck; most people would not have the mental or physical stamina for this kind of job.

I watched it briefly one day and sort of dismissed it as one of those dumb "finding bigfoot" type shows, with a guy always searching for some mythological creature. Maybe I got the wrong impression, might give it another shot.

Just watch a full episode and you'll see

Agree with this 100%. He shows a lot of respect for these creatures and their mythos.
The episode where the locals ate the dying fish was really moving. He truely didn't want the fish to die.

This show is so good. The episode with the freshwater stingray was great. He was so close with that first big one, and it was almost like a movie plot the way he just went back out there (despite the tear in his shoulder) and caught the others.
|
Wow I just saw the fresh water shark episode, never ever ever going to straya, no where is safe there.
|
I have zero interest in watching this but
LOOK AT THAT FUCKERS TEETH!
|
a little overdramatic/repetitive sometimes BUT it's intense and fascinating. i like it! gonna grab nother beer and watch me some of more this right right now.
|
This show is so sweet. The reenactments of fish attacks are kinda corny but the actually fishing is really fun to watch. And the part at the end when he finally catches some crazy fish is the best.
|
the series finale should be of him going down into the mariana trench
|
Fantastic series with a great and engaging host, The best of the “mystery hunter’s” genre.
|
Whoa! whats the fish called in the second picture?
|
giant tigerfish or something
I liked that show. Is it still running?
|
This is one of my favorite shows, it's lovely.
|
I love this show, I wish I could find the previous episodes though (I missed the last one for S5)
Finale tomorrow (Monday) !

I almost wish they'd stop doing the reenactments but I guess they wouldn't have enough film for the show. But yeah they are corny

wtf this show has 5 seasons??
damn you netflix Canada!! *waives fist angrily*
lets NOT find another streaming option hehe

I love this show, it's like Bear Grylls goes fishing!
|
He's truly amazing. I like his show.

Need to check this out. I love stuff like Shark Week etc etc, this looks pretty awesome.
|
It's an educational and great show. I love this.

Jeremy Wade is a fantastic fisherman, and I feel it's incredibly overlooked. Yes he does care about the fish, as people on here have referenced with the dying fish the people ate, but he is also disgustingly good (and very efficient and calculating) at catching whatever he's going after. Especially when there's very few of what he's catching around.

Anyone know where to watch this show online?

Such a cool show! One of my favorites!

Anyone got some suggestions for a few good episodes? I won't get through 5 series of this but I've enjoyed other similar fishing shows so it could be fun for an ep or two.

He was not taken in as a suspected spy during the show, he just went back to the country where it had happened years prior. But yes great show, only thing that bothers me is that he constantly states how his life is in danger when he's landing the fish.
