Sadly, there's still no confirmation yet if they're planning to continue this trilogy due to conflict with the "Magisterium" ![]() I don't know if they should after simplifying the alethiometer to 'the golden compass' -.- On June 13 2013 04:14 babylon wrote: The book was published in the USA as "The Golden Compass," which is why the film was called "The Golden Compass." lol why wasn't it called The Northern Lights? :D and I thought they actually call the alethiometer the golden compass in the film?

![]() The film was terrible, they should reboot the series if they're going to keep making movies out of it, and not continue the atrocity that was the first movie :<

It's certainly an allusion, but I highly doubt that the title is not meant to bring to mind the alethiometer. But yes, the film was horrible. I didn't think they could make it that terrible. The casting was not bad -- I still think Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel was a good choice even if he didn't really act as well as I'd hoped he would ... -- but the pacing was horrendous.

![]() This book is the fourth in the series of Sigma Force novels by Rollins. If you like international spy thrillers, with some interesting science thrown in, give them a read! ![]()

I think you'll be reading a lot more Amber before you start up Malazan again though because unlike Malazan the story doesn't jump around from group to group.

Anyone got some suggestions for some similar books ? Not in the genre, but on the same topic ? Next in line would be the bible(s) if I can find one, but so far I have found the "house of god" (aka church) either closed or empty. Which I find funny, not gonna lie :-D

The anti-religious sentiment is, let's say, a bit heavy-handed. I quite liked it though. Just finished Stalker, pretty good sci-fi, I like the movie a lot more though. But they are very different. Now I think I'm going to read Mrs Dalloway : ![]()

That said, we read it in our english class and most people didn't like it. I think the descriptions of everyday life are really cool and that she manages to make the plot move really well. However you wouldn't be alone if you just thought it was boring.

![]() I don't fear the subject that much - after all I love a lot of books most people find boring - but I think I might have trouble adapting to Virginia Woolf's style. We'll see how it goes !

![]() Sunzi, art of warfare Reading 2nd time atm. This should be mandatory to read in school. But that aside - I am looking a book of normal pirate in possibly alternative universe or then just extremely immersive story of life of some non-captain pirate. Like boring crewmember. Fictional ofc. I am also looking fictional story about street thug living in huge metropoly. I've been kowloon city books but I haven't find any.
