They go down hill quick after that. I have heard that The Glittering Stone is almost unreadable. I wouldn't exactly call it unreadable, but my beef with it comes mostly from the disjoint between product and expectation. Was hoping for more Black Company hijinks but instead we get... I don't quite know how to describe it. But I'm making decent headway into Soldiers Live now, and the return of a certain Annalist does make things easier.

It's just not the same as if it was your own mother tongue. Depends on the style used / play on words / uncommon phrases etc.. So, there are some books I probably wouldnt enjoy reading in English, because I am not a native speaker.

Well, that has got to do with your personal understanding of english, not being a native speaker per se.

![]() Reading for the second time. Can't recommend it enough. It's a modern American masterpiece, and McCarthy's prose style is impossibly good.

I also read some books in the MythAdventures series by Robert Lynn Asprin. They were very interesting and funny in their own way. Definitely recommended, if you like fantasy and weird duo's. Now I'm going to read The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov. The first few pages are promising (time travel, controllers of process ( I may be completely wrong ![]()

Of course it doesn't help that her writing style is dense, veering towards more description than is strictly necessary.

She writes injustices too well, and I just end up feeling all too frustrated for the characters. Or rather, too frustrated to plow through three 600+ page books in a timely manner. -__- Took me ages to finish the Fitz series, and now the Liveship series is just as exhausting in the same way. Of course it doesn't help that her writing style is dense, veering towards more description than is strictly necessary. I found the first two Fitz books to be very interesting and enjoyable, but the third one was incredibly dull and frustrating and I barely managed to struggle through it.

Don't get me wrong, I think she's enjoyable to read; I just find the sheer number (and nature) of trials she puts her characters through to be brutal. It's very emotionally taxing on me. It's not unlike reading GRRM. (They also both write characters that are just designed to be loathed by the readers. I mean, Regal and Joffrey are the two big ones for me; Kyle in the Liveship series is grating on me too. It's hard to get through books when you just want to strangle some of the spotlight characters.) Yeah, third book of the Fitz series was a drag; nothing happened for the longest time. The ending was really good though.
