if you wanna talk about memes I know all about the memes, that doesn't have anything to do with the supposed 'death of ideology' which is something that only a person who did not understand what ideology was could believe in. edit: I'm getting too drunk to continue this conversation. Somebody wanna talk about a book they are reading or smth? I'm going to go away. Good night everyone don't let the imf structurally adjust you while I'm gone

I largely associated the idea of ideology and the rise of a semi-functioning liberal democracy with the rising strength of a middle class as seen in Chile in South Korea when they ousted their military juntas. However, you look at China and Singapore and you see that perhaps the middle class is not so concerned about democracy, it seems like the middle class is more concerned about the protection of property making John Locke right in the end. And with the supposed death of ideology, I believe that it is important to try to somehow promote the use of ideology through the disciplines of Habermasian communication and discourse and using hermeneutics to better understand truth and democratic participation rather than a technocracy or bureaucracy. Oh, Sam is drunk, no wonder he seemed to be so mean to us ![]()

the middle class has always cared about property not democracy. When you give the people democracy they vote for socialism obviously, what the fuck else would poor people vote for???? Capitalism??? Get real. Jesus christ. the american founders were terrified of democracy. It's not a secret they say so explicitly. Why do you think that was?? go tell salvador allende that america promotes democracy abroad. Oh wait, you cant , because he died in a US sponsored military coup. Doh!

I think I'm going to read Copleston's History of Philosophy while I'm visiting my father. That is to say that I'll do my best to make a dent in it.

And the 20th century has proven beyond a doubt that Capitalism is better. Now if Obama would just stop ruining this country we could all get back to some prosperity.

I started thinking, the characters in a lot of books are always so good at explaining and in "allegory"(?)in dialogues. To the point where it actually starts picking on me.

![]() Finished: ![]() Good book. Some of the philosophic parts were a little lengthy and the ending is quite unsatisfying, but Sherlock Holmes as a monk is fun. Read it nearly completely during several train rides, so I have probably missed most of the more subtle aspects. I am undecided about what to read next: I still have some sort stories by David Foster Wallace here. Also my mother told me to read the Virgin Suicides. I might also read some of the several thousand pages by the Strugatzki brothers that are still left. Finally, I might want to try Heart of Darkness because of the discussions you have had here. So any advice on where to start?
