Currently reading: The Drawing of the Three (second book of the Dark Tower series) Plan to read: the rest of the Dark Tower series. I'm not completely sold on reading the whole thing after the first book, but it seems like its getting more interesting as it goes. A lot of people I know insist that it's one of the best series of all time, and hopefully it'll live up to that.

Right before that I read Food of the Gods which I highly reccomend. Currently reading: The Drawing of the Three (second book of the Dark Tower series) Plan to read: the rest of the Dark Tower series. I wouldn't describe it as the best series of all time or anywhere near it for that matter but it is a cool story arc. That being said personally I struggle with King because I'm not the largest fan of his style of writing. He overdramatizes at times. If you enjoy his style of writing his stories are fantastic though.

I really enjoyed the first book with its pseudo-western atmosphere. I was then really disappointed by the rest of the series. I finished it just because I thought the western atmosphere might come back but it didn't. Also + Show Spoiler + Vampires? Androids? Really? That alone could have destroyed the whole series for me.

Let us know what you think of the final few pages. I've said it in this thread before, but they are some of my favorite pages in all of literature.

Oh I thought they were good, particularly the second paragraph from the end. But the part I liked the most was when Marlow described the feeling of going up the river, of "going back in time" to a "pre-historic earth". It was beautiful but at the same time it says so much about how people viewed Africa back then. The main problem I had with the book was that it was really ambiguous. Kurtz is a dipshit but Marlow still admires him. The prose was beautiful though. Funny that the two most elaborate english novels I have read prose-wise(Heart of Darkness and Lolita) were written by "foreigners".
