Btw this can be good reason 1-3 sucked is George Lucas directed it and he's not much of a director or screenwriter, he's an idea person good with the broad strokes. It's why V and VI are the best not directed by Lucas and not mainly screen-written by Lucas.

I think it's gonna be more in the form of this:

Considering what Lucas himself did to the franchise... I don't see how Disney can make it any worse. The Ewok movies, episode 1 to 3, those were like very bad Disney movies already.

Considering Disney's unreasonably strong record as of late (thinking of Tron here mostly) i think this may have a chance of rekindling the magic that got lost after 1983.

Explaining a bit more: Disney, a studio known for mostly playing it safe, resurrected a massive commercial flop movie from 1980 to make a sequel which was not only pretty good but also managed to do commercially well enough that a sequel is in the works. Honestly, while there's bad stuff among their repertoire, they have been taking risks with big franchises (hollywood risks, as in, trying to make good movies) and they have been doing well iirc...

As far as movies are concerned, i'm actually looking forward to this new one even though i'm not a Star Wars fan. I hope it's going to be based on The Old Republic universe rather than being a straight continuation of the old movies.

The bad news in this is that Disney also took over LucasArts. Many people don't realize this, but as far as games are concerned Disney has a horrible track record as a publisher. Since 2010 they "refocused" their business in this area to mobile and social gaming platforms, veering away from consoles and PC 'AAA' titles. They closed more than a few development studios over this (Black Rock Studios.... I miss you so), and i can't imagine this being different for LucasArts.

This means that there won't be any first party [/i]or[/i] commissioned Star Wars games, or any game from the LucasArts stable (Monkey Island most notably, a lot of classic adventure games). The only way we'll be getting new LucasArts games is through external licensing, which is extremely rare in the gaming industry to happen (Star Wars Galaxies, (Knights of) The Old Republic etc have been licensed out by LucasArts).

This, for me anyway, is a far bigger worry than the movies, which i think will be in good hands (for a change. Seriously, Lucas himself should never have been allowed so much power over the franchise. Go watch the RedLetterMedia reviews on the first 3 episodes to see why). While there were duds in the Star Wars games, you also had gems like XvsT, KotOR and at least one Battlefront game - Not to mention the rest of the LucasArts stable of games.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Going to +1 ChromeBallz; Not sure if this is everyone's cup of tea, but I have found Red Letter Media's review of the prequel trilogies to be hilarious (and this is coming from a big Star Wars fan). This is the first part of the Episode 1 review.

They go for a while but I found them hilarious, and he makes some really good analysis

I am worried about the Star Wars games too. I have played all sorts of Star Wars games, from pod racer on the n64, rogue squadron on gamecube, plus the old Jedi Knight games all the way up to Battlefront and The Force Unleashed. I really hope they finish off The Force Unleased series; the second one was pretty rubbish but I loved the first one and have played through it many times.

This Patton Oswalt routine seems more relevant than ever now. I just hope that this new film doesn't have that "Disney feel" to it. I am not sure how to describe it but aesthetically a lot of the stuff that comes out of the company just runs together in such a way it puts me off.

Yeah, cleary Disney hasn't come with anything new ever.

Not counting all the classic stuff here's a bit of awesome stuff:

- Princess and the frog
- Tangled
- Up
- Pirates of the Caribbean (only basis for this was a ride..which they created...)

Not that I disagree with the sentiment that Disney isn't horrible, but Tangled is based off of Rapunzel, is it not?

And princess and the frog is based on ...... the princess and the frog, both of which are pretty loosely based if you compare the original stories. My main point is, Disney is incredibly innovative, and has been from day 1.

More importantly they can direct and write screen plays for stories, the work of outline of everything is already done by lucas. Disney bought the rights to use it, my only prob is the hard date of 2015 for the movie, as it takes awhile to turn out a good script and then awhile to actually make the movie then even longer to produce it.

Wait ... what? Disney is innovative?

After decades of movies based on classics (Cinderella, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Oliver and Company, etc) they declare they're releasing an original film, The Lion King ...

Which was based off another movie called Kimba the White Lion. Disney started making the Lion King assuming they could just buy the rights, but Kimba never sold so Disney just declared it was an original story.

Disney makes great movies. They don't innovate.
Eagerly awaiting Techies.

I have to disagree with you on Disney being known for playing it safe. When Disney was still a very young company, at one point, they had everything they owned invested in Snow White. Everything. If that movie flopped, Disney probably wouldn't exist. There are quite a few other examples of Disney taking big risks like this, especially back then, but Walt being such a visionary and perfectionist when i comes to entertainment really won over the general public.

Times have changed, and although there have been some rough years for Disney produced material, I feel they're back on track with the original company values.

The people saying Disney will just make star wars into a kiddy movie with Mickey and Goofy and the gang in it need to back off and realize that when Disney targets a demographic, they don't miss. Tweens love high school musical and all that Disney channel shit that we hate so much, but they're not targeting US with it.

If anyone wants to seriously say they hate The Avengers, or basically ANY pixar movies, go ahead.. I just won't believe you.

ALso, I liked the new Tron!

Whatever they decide to do, I would like to see more of a blur between the light and the dark side. As it is, it's just too black and white. Either you're a good jedi, or you're an evil sith. I would like to see someone walk the line without really falling into either groups. It probably won't happen, but I can dream.

Tron Legacy had the most generic sci-fi plot imaginable. A bad guy that wants to rid of all imperfection and secretly builds an army to invade the world? Oh come on! It's a shame that they wasted such an interesting setting, outstanding special effects & soundtrack, with such a lame story.

Yeah you're right. They don't have entire theme parks in multiple locations around the world with innovative rides and attractions. They never invented the Multi-plane camera back in the 30's or 40's to give 2D cartoons foreground and background.... They also haven't had a hand in creating Up, the whole Toy story series... a quadrilogy of Pirates of the Caribbean movies (all based on a ride THEY created). While SOME movies may be based on stories written by others, no one can deny that Disney is innovative when it comes to nearly any kind of entertainment.

Have you seen their fireworks shows? Live performances? Cruise Ships? The new crazy ass water show at DisneyLand? Have you stayed at any of their resorts and seen all the detail that goes into the theme of it all? Yeah, they must be copying all that from some other company.

Cars.... The Incredibles....Up....Wall-E.......Monsters Inc...... Did this Kimba guy get the shaft? Maybe, but that doesn;t mean Disney isn't innovative, to say otherwise is a slap in the face to a LOT of people over the past 80 years.

Look up Captain EO, an original short film from the 80's, shot with one of the first 3D camera's.... produced by George Lucas (yup) and starring Michael Jackson.

Let's not forget the "fab 5" (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto) Clearly the decades of cartoons based on them can't be innovative can they? I roll my eyes at you sir.

Please though, continue.
