Also, nobody in the original trilogy that fights Luke both wants to actually kill him and knows he has a space sword that can deflect laser beams as far as I can remember-maybe Boba Fett, but I'm not sure. In the prequels it's a little stranger since the Jedi are pretty much enemy #1 for the separatists, but there are some super battle droids that are *supposed* to be able to go toe to toe with Jedi. The problem is you only see them battle two of the most battle-capable Jedi in the universe. The clones certainly eradicate them all pretty effectively. The Jedi and Sith don't innovate because they're both bogged down in centuries of teachings that they're incredibly faithful to, and the Jedi and Sith are the main people trying to kill Jedi and Sith. | ||

I watched a youtube video of George Lucas where he talked with the director of E6 Return of the jedi. The director wanted to make Yoda fight with a lightsaber and becos he said the fans wanted to see that and it would be "cool", but George Lucas was appalled at the idea. He explained that Yoda is not that kind of character, he doesn't fight, he is a really old wise sage that spreads wisdom and is a teacher of spirituallity. So I wonder why George Lucas meanwhile decided having Yoda do a lightsaber fight is a good idea. A good guess would be aiming for the cheap thrills of the audience so he can have more $$. | ||

Compare this to the OT where the Vader is basically the king of banter while fighting, resulting in some of the most important plot advancement in the movies: there was a point to the fights other than flashy space swords. | ||

Yoda only fought when he had really had though. Do you mean it didn't make sense for him to step in to save Obi-wan and Anakin after they got horribly outclassed by Dooku? I mean no amount of leadership and guidance could have saved them from that guy's lightsaber. Or when they found out Palpatine was Sideous, wasn't it more wise to take him out there one on one. I don't think it would be good leadership if he had decided to hang back, let the galaxy suffer under Sideous and wait for decades for the rebellion to do the work. | ||

The script didn't have to be written in the way so that Yoda had to fight. The whole thing is just retarded and unfaithfull to the OT. What I think is that Yoda should have been a really old spiritual guy that has authority for his wisdom. He should have been really fragile so that everyone could snap his neck. Prequells basically made every character the same empty headed sword swinging idiot driven by simple emotions. Only character in the prequells that managed to look at least a bit smart was Qui Gon Jin. Everyone else is a retard including Yoda. | ||

More with the way he is written, as in how he responds to situations, what he says, his perspective on the things happening etc. | ||
