Wouldn't it just be easier to keep with the mutant instead of switching it to aliens? I can't imagine it be any easier to explain their origin as aliens rather than just mutants. Michael Bay must also have realized that he just retconned a huge portion of people's childhood here, something that could have easily been avoided and surely wouldn't have been met with a positive response in the first place.

I'm locking myself in a bunker with my Secret of the Ooze movie, tons of recorded cartoon tapes, and a box of old turtles toys I'm sure my mom still has in her attic somewhere. There, my childhood will be safe...
