Korra getting her bending back was obvious, and in her case I wouldn't even call it deus ex machina (or at least not an exceptional case given that deus ex machina is basically personfiied by the avatar/avatar state). By extension it makes sense that she can restore people's bending, but I kind of wish they left some permanent damage from Amon's run.
Also, it seems like they didn't leave much open for the next season. Was expecting a longer big-picture arc.
Still loved the finale. Teared up 2-3 times. Some parts did seem a little rushed, though, particularly with Iroh losing his fleet and being the only one rescued, and never even flinching at the thought of all of his men going down like that.

Awesome. I FINALLY got my one damn wish. :D I only don't get how Aang was able to bend her when he's a spirit. The last minute break-up-and-make-up between Korra and Mako was silly though. Overall liked the episode. I don't think it was bad as some people suggest. It does make sense for the most part.
P.S. : As for S2, you wouldn't think the world has one and only one problem in Amon, did you? There must be something else Korra's gonna do and I personally like the fact that it's going to be non-Amon related (or so it looks right now, can't be too sure he died there).

We just got trolled! Even though we all know amon didn't die.

That was a really bad finale. Seems like they wanted to wrap up season 1 and put everything that needs to be explaint in one hour. so they just said: Ok, tarrlok tells the whole story in one minute, amon gets beaten by showing he can bend. Oh we have just one minute left to explain how they should get bending back. Korra gets cheatcodes and everything is back to normal..

Mako should just go and die.

I just wish they made this series more than 2 seasons.. If they were able to slow this down a little bit, this plot is fucking amazing and the series would be just as great as TLA. The ONLY reason LoK isn't as good is because everything isn't explained, but rather rushed. It's still good, but wished it was longer.
For instance, if the season was 20 episodes, or even 15, instead of 12, they could have dedicated a whole episode to Korra trying to find her spiritual side. Explaining Amon/Noatoc/Yakone/Tarloc could've easily been its own episode as well.

Aang created and learned so many new forms of bending, like talking to the turtle and learning how to stop and start bending. I hope korra can create such a name for herself as well.

He was very apologetic when he told Korra than Amon = his brother and knew that his brother had gone too far.
The ending was a bit weird though (I feel it could have just ended after Tarlokk blows his brother and himself up, maybe a short scene to show Team Avatar coping with powerless Korra). I don't mind it, but I feel it was too rushed and they could have pushed it to next season. Oh well.

I'm happy Korra did end up metroid-ing it for season 2. Good change from the previous series to see what she can do as a full avatar.

Aang was probably the most talented and important Avatar in the line considering what he had to deal with and overcome, I highly doubt Korra will match that.

ehh...Amon was basically never a threat at all since Korra can just restore people's bending in the avatar state. Still decent, but it kind of undermines the urgency of the whole story. Kinda disappointed.

Rushed definitely. Wish Tarrlok would've just electrocuted Amon and took him back for trial or something. Seemed like to much of an easy fix.

It wasn't bad but they did way too much crap all at once. All the main plot points for a good story were there but the entire episode was nothing but super-dense plot points without detailed execution. They did well for 1 hour but they shouldn't have even tried to wrap up the story that quickly. All of the major plot points are there, but it seems like the full story is missing.

Iroh taking out the planes, naga 3v1'ing the mechs and tarloks last scene were awesome but the rest of the episode was meh.

Well amon is still alive else there is no purpose for the second season. I'm sad how quickly things happened toward the end.

The scene with Naga was unrealistic, and you forgot to mention the Lieutenant getting owned.

The problems with the finale and the series in general had very little to do with it being a kids show. It was just awkwardly written and poorly paced.
The one part that is just idiotic to me is the way they did the destruction of Iroh's fleet. It's just bizarre that Iroh loses his whole fleet, is the only one to get saved, makes no attempt to save his men and neither does Korra.
