Two brothers face the fight of a lifetime - and the wreckage of their broken family - within the brutal, high-stakes world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting in Lionsgate's action/drama, WARRIOR. An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father. But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives.
I'm surprised I didn't find a thread about this -- it was one of the top films in 2011 and had incredible acting, action, and emotional scenes. It flew under the radar for a lot of people surprisingly, so I figured I'd start a thread here to see if it sparks any interest.
I watched this movie in theaters and twice on blue ray fucking love this movie it's two underdog movies in one with amazing acting in my top 5 for 2011

Nice, I saw it for the second time tonight and will probably invite some friends over this weekend to watch it again.
Someone told me it was the MMA's version of "The fighter". I watched it hoping for another great movie and I wasn't disappointed. However I felt that the ending needed something else.
EDIT: I didn't like the ring side commentary at all during this movie. It's never done right in sports movies
I think I'm the only person out there who feels this movie is totally overrated and predictable.
I had such high hopes, too.
Dont flatter yourself mate the movie is predictable and cliche'd but the acting makes that completely irrelevant imo, if you told anyone the story without them seeing the movie anyone that isnt a 13 year old boy will say the story is predictabl, boring and been done so many times but the movie still transcends that and is awesome regardless of how nonsensical beating up your crippled brother is
I loved this movie sooooo much. Finally an MMA movie done right. Even if the premise for the tournament was a bit ridiculous the movie itself was really well done.
I loved the movie exept the ending. Why didn't they stop the fight after the younger brother got his shoulder dislocated? He could not even lift his arm to cover himself and was in no condition to fight after the third round. I mean, the dramatic effect was great and all, but alot of it was spoiled for me because i kept thinking to myself, 'they cannot possibly let the fight go on when he cant even cover himself...'
"Yeah, I'll tell you somethin'. You can take that back to where you found it. You can leave the coffee in the pot, I can pour it out myself. And I can wake myself up too."
"So you found God, huh? That's awesome. See, Mom kept calling out for him but he wasn't around. I guess Jesus was down at the mill forgiving all the drunks. Who knew? "

Maybe it would have killed a film a bit, but I really wanted to see 10 more minutes so many unanswered questions
This film, after my oppinion, was the best of 2011 for sure. Maybe drive, or that other, The Artist, is close, haven't seen them yet, but just the fact that this is a fighting movie and is so good is truly amazing. Some will call it cheesy, some will be disappointed because its just not a fighting movie, like many others, but the story is really, really amazing. The thing about picking a side is always there, and you want both to win. And the badass Tommy is so cool, while the "Rocky" Brendan is family man and fights for his family. The backstory is also good, i felt so sorry for theire dad.
I loved the movie, even shed a tear at the end. Amazing movie! One of my favorites!
Yeah. A teacher who trains for 6 weeks beats the world's most elite professional fighters. Cool story.
I'm gonna write an equally cool script myself. During the space race, some guy farts so forcefully he is propelled all the way to the moon. He lands up there with epic fanfare as USA and USSR stare in disbelief.

Well, not really trying to flatter myself in any way at all but good acting doesn't make a predictable and silly plot more tolerable. There are a slew of movies people don't like because the plot sucks despite having great acting, I don't know why this one is excused in this regard.

This movie is the best movie that's come out in 2011, and it definitely deserved to be nominated for more Oscars, and I feel it could have been at least 20 minutes longer.
The movie was decent and I enjoyed it. My gf liked it more than me and i've heard some good things from other people about this movie too. However the posts in this thread make the movie more than it actually is. I had high expectations when I watched this in theaters and I didnt come out completely disappointed but its far from being a top movie for 2011.
Normally I would try and concentrate on the positives for a movie like this and say why I enjoyed it but I feel like this movie needs to be brought down to earth so this is why I dont think its one of hte best films this year.
The trailer pretty much tells you the entire movie, if there was anything you were surprised about in the movie or didnt expect than you have no foreshadowing skills at all or are new to cinema entertainment. Now for the characters, I do agree that they were well acted and I enjoyed that part a lot. But man, they had no relationships between each other. The characters dont grow throughout the movie and you would think they would have some interaction between each other. But na, they just have very brief and very unreasonable discussions like once or twice in the movie then they fight at the end. Its hard to relate to these characters except for the family man. The movie failed to stir up any emotional feelings for me and the ending was completely lackluster.
