James Cameron Titanic- sappy as hell, got a lotta guys laid, the dialogue couldn't..dialogue itself out of a paper bag Avatar- 15 minutes into the film...I GET IT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUCKING INDIANS, GODDAMNIT, I ALREADY SAW DANCES WITH WOLVES
Ridlet Scott Bladerunner- OK I saw it when it was an "old" movie to me, but still, very cool movie with some innovative themes Black Hawk Down- I don't need to defend this one, it was a fantastic movie, and considering how sensitive the subject is, he rode the line between a realistic portrayal and a heroic portrayal of the soldiers, perfectly. How many war movies can say that? Gladiator- another amazingly done movie, even if the coliseum isn't really that big, paved the way for a lot of movies that incorporate themes of war, nobility, spirituality, and corruption in the same ways that this one did. The amount of hate and love you feel for the characters is intense.
As you should be able to tell, I favor one of these writers/directors over the other.

a little off topic but you guys should see the new "the thing"
if youre a fan of aliens and the classic "thing" I think you'll like it.
Just finished watching it over a few shots of vodka and as a dude who loves drunken monster movies; this one did not disappoint
edit* especially in comparison of a lot of modern monster movies

Interesting coincidence, I'm actually reading the wikipedia article about the thing right now, apparently the original didn't do so well, came out the same week as ET. I might go see the remake now.
|
watch both IMO, the original is awesome and i believe the new one is a prequel

But if all aliens are xenomorphs, why do people say they hope their not in the movie? Or I suppose they'd rather see the humans (Space cowboys) as main storyline...
Edit: oh wait, I get it now, no xenomorph is the statement so different creatures compared to the original aliens, intresting

You are listing 2 of the worst movies done by Cameron. Titanic is prolly better than Avatar but its still just his 5´th best movie.
He made Aliens and Terminator 2. Both of them are true masterpieces and some of the best sequals ever made.
Ofc he also made Terminator 1 and The Abyss, which are also great.

"xenomorph" is the term used for the black, acid-filled aliens with the miniature mouth inside their bigger mouth, even though xenomorph is just a technical term for an alien, it comes from the terms use by characters in the original movie.
|
What I really appreciate about this one is if you look at the structural design of vehicles and internals of ships, they tried to preserve the look and feel as much as possible to the original alien while updating other negligibly bits.

I always get confused by American dates. Is it 8th of June or 6th of August?

New "Thing" was pretty weak. CGI was OK and you got some beautiful shots of antarctic landscape but apart from that you got exactly the same story as before told much worse. I don't even know why they labeled it as prequel instead of remake. It was exactly the same except they were talking in norse instead of english and they tried to check impostors by fillings instead of blood test. It failed on every level.
|
Loved new Thing. Very well done, imho, it was as true to Carpenter's movie as it can be nowadays... haven't seen a movie which was so respectful of the original.
Hmm, no aliens? Where does that info come from? That could make sense in some context but everyone expects it to be an alien movie... having no aliens is plainly weird and misleading.
It's June, manitou.
P.S. Hell yeah... Avatar and Titanic definitely aren't best Cameron's movies. Terminator 1/2, Abyss, Aliens - those definitely are.Besides, what's the point comparing at all, like it's gonna make Ridley's movie any better.

According to imdb this isn't really going to be an Alien prequel at all. Which I was very disappointed with. I guess they had plans to do it like that to begin with but there were conflicts about budgeting. If you are like me and want to see an Alien prequel you can go like the fan page on facebook I made. I doubt it will amount to anything but reading about how the prequel fell through made me pretty upset. Anyway heres the link + Show Spoiler +http://www.facebook.com/pages/Petition-to-make-Prometheus-an-R-rated-Alien-prequel/180916752006109?sk=wall

When I see a petition and see a cut trailer for a movie, I can't imagine how anything can be changed even if they would be willing to, which I strongly doubt.
From one perspective, it could be refreshing experience. A missing link, a deeper perspective on everything or nuances which always kept true fans guessing.
From another perspective, as I said bit before myself, I did expect it to be an alien movie with an actual alien in it. And a movie without one, feels quite weird (at this point of time, with current knowledge, for me).
I do like the name and possibly the idea associated with it, wondered about it today for a moment and I thought it somewhat poetic.

It has strong ties with the old Prometheus synopsis that was leaked a while ago.
spoilers, obviously
+ Show Spoiler +Earth. Year 2058.
Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God’s home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their "children," their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.
As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it's not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods' power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.
On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission. Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.

Okay dude, we get it, you like Ridley Scott and so do we...but seriously did you happen to see Terminator 2, Aliens, The Abyss, or True Lies?

Careful with the post above, that's a pretty thorough plot synopsis. Spoilers for the early part of the movie.

Pretty sure Aliens was deliberately omitted, as was Alien (Ridley Scott), since they are a part of the same series.
James Cameron knows how to make a blockbuster, that much is true, but he isn't on the same level as a storyteller.

If this new movie can come anywhere close to matching the epic SCV vs Queen battle at the end of Aliens, I'll buy a ticket.

A new photo of Noomi inside the alien ship. Notice the space suit for the Space Jockeys in the back and the Weyland patch on her space suit.
