Blu ray does this movie great, if you love the movie and haven't seen it in 1080p give it a go for sure. I wish I knew more movies that were as good as Alien. Stunning.
Prometheus has a great trailer, for a 1 minute bit it does the trick. You should watch the 2nd, 3rd and 4th movies too.... 2nd is as good as the 1st, 3rd and 4th are decent. With each Alien movie having a different director most would think that as a series it would suck or be "all over the place", but somehow all the movies are great and tied together in their own weird way. Really go watch Aliens (Alien 2) as it is truely a masterpiece with so many unforgetable scenes and awesome characters. Even Newt (and I usually hate kids in movies) fits in really well.
No, Alien is the best. I really feel a prequel might undo a lot of the symbolism the first movie established, and what the subsequent series failed to deliver.
And Alien had A LOT to say about gender and race which a prequel would have a hard time living up to, even if it was carefully planned and directed.

I preffered Aliens, which was more action packed etc, but I see your point. Scott did say that there will be no Xenomorphs in this movie, so hopefully it's only going to be about the Space Jockey and not too much history, we'll see

Well thats your opinion.
I love the original as well but Aliens just have it all: Scary moments, action, great story, great acting, great characters, great effects and Hudson!

Alien and Aliens scared the shit out of me! I watched both, when i was 13 years old or so, on TV laaaaate at night, almost 15 years ago. Never liked watching scary movies since! Didnt even bother to watch the other sequels. Even reading/hearing the word Alien creeps me out.
Maybe i should rewatch both movies, with friends. With a lot of lights on! Maybe watching a comedy beforehand, lie Battleship?

Ridley Scott just needs to get working on Forever War.

I't looks awesome. will watch
"hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "no, have you?"
"That's it man, Game over man, game over!!"

This looks good. Alien is way better and scarier than Aliens. Aliens has a lot of cool scenes and lots of cool effects, great action, lots of iconic moments -- essentially, tons of great pieces. But Aliens is undone by the TERRIBLE writing from James Cameron. James Cameron should never be allowed to write his own scripts. The man can direct a good looking movie, but he cannot write dialogue at all. Aliens has some pretty decent actors: Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser (!?), and they are stretched to the limit to get out Cameron's terrible lines.
Alien is minimalist, deliberately paced (aka slow), and the creepiness steadily builds throughout the movie.
Alien is a horror movie. Aliens is an action movie.
Ridley Scott made Black Hawk Down and Bladerunner. James Cameron made Avatar and Titanic. Bigger is not better.
I've also seen every movie that has the Xenomorph in it, but the less said about the rest of them, the better.

Yes, Aliens was cheesy as hell, but that is the charm of the movie! How can you not love characters like Hicks? Aliens is goddamn entertaining, with a dash of creepy Aliens and expendable marines. You may not like the accessible writings of Cameron, but terrible he is surely not! I just rewatched Aliens 2 weeks ago, and with TF3 fresh in my memory, there is no way I would put Cameron at the same level as that atrocity. For the record, I love the first Alien movie, for entirely different reasons.

+ Ridley Scott with his bashing of Aliens, let's see if he's up to the challenge himself now. + Cast seems great, like the actors. + Can't be worse than AvP movies.

If he can't write dialogue.. how come Weaver would be nominated for freaking OSCAR that year as a Leading female if movie wouldn't be sci-fi by default... Just by her acting skill? I don't think so...
And yes, Aliens isn't that scary, it's an action flick. It was never presented otherwise... even the tagline - This time it's war - says all. And that's one of the reasons Ridley Scott hated Camerons adaptation. Alien is definitely a horror movie, with great suspense. But looking at this trailer it barely seems the same... not sure if Ridley is sticking to his own words.
P.S. Prometheus isn't a prequel, it's set in the same timeline as Alien. It was intended to be one, but they changed it. Don't know why suits look different though (not talking about cosmetics) and didn't like em, too.
P.P.S. I liked every Alien franchise movie except Resurrection, the feel of it is off the place for me completely, not because it's bad, I just don't dig it. French sci-fi was always too art-hous'y for me.

In terms of sci-fi horror, I see Aliens being similar to Dead Space 2. It still has its scary or creepy moments, but it has great action moments too. I love Aliens and Dead Space 2 since it had a nice pace between the genres, but Alien and Dead Space are great too because of their isolated feeling and claustrophobia.
Anyone who played the Dead Space series can tell that the developers got ideas from the Alien series and Event Horizon. Dead Space was pretty much Alien and Event Horizon while Dead Space 2 was based off Aliens with the characters being stuck on a broken ship in space with little chances of help and survival or stuck on a planet.

Definitely looking forward to see this. Great fan of this genre (or else I wouldn't be playing SC lol). Hopefully the movie is just as epic as the trailer.

I'm terribly sorry if this is a silly question but what is a xenomorph? I tried looking it up on google and the best I can come up with is that a xenomorph is the mother-alien. Someone able to help me out?

The aliens in general are called xenomorphs. The badguys in Alien and Aliens are all xenomorphs.

It's the variety of aliens you see in the movie. I don't know if it has a meaning outside of the movie. The etymology is "foreign form" so I guess it could be applied to any E.T. stuff.
