This is the most well-made trailer I have ever seen in my life. Can't comment on how good the movie is, for all I know the movie could actually be bad. But a trailer has never hyped me up as much as this one. It's just so epic.

I just saw the first movie a few weeks ago (I admit, a friend pirated it and subsequently gave it to me) and I thought that.. well, it didn't look corny at all. Perhaps it was because it was the blu-ray edition, I don't know. But it never looked 'old' at all.

Overall, me and a couple of friends are looking forward to this film, here's hoping it's a good film, I'm sure it'll be a smash.

It's not a good film, sure it references some old standard sci-fi concepts but unlike Alien it doesn't really explore any of them for more than a line/scene before discarding them. The plots uninteresting, or at least the interesting parts aren't really followed up. The dialogs terrible, the actings pretty weak, character develpment is either non-existant or nonesensical (while Alien's wasn't the best we've ever seen it was orders of magnitiude better than this) and I don't think you can argue for good direction as it opens
+ Show Spoiler +

wasting 15 minutes of looking at iceland and watching a blue man fall apart which is irrelavant to the film other than as an introduction to the fact there are blue men somewhere in space. This would have worked better as a suprise reveal later on.

It's visually pretty impressive though, so you can argue for good cinematography.

That all said, if you like effects and horror/sci-fi things you'll probably like it anyway. Like some of the posts above you can go away and think about all of the concepts that were hinted at although not explored in the film at all, but we've seen all of those before so thats not really a selling point for me.. If you like good screenplay you'll probably be very very dissapointed.

Saw the movie, liked it, definitely the best Alien movie besides 1 and 2
(or predator 1 if you count that as an alien movie wich you shouldn't but still)
Can't really think of anything this movie did wrong actually

I thought it was really fucking good.

Some theorycrafting:
+ Show Spoiler +
So now we know that the Engineers created Mankind, but where does that put the Predators in this universe? Are the Predators a separate species with almost the same advanced technology as the Engineers or are they also created by them?
The conclusion from all the Predator and AVP movies are that the Xenomorph is the ultimate prey for the Predators and they have the ability to control the Alien species (hatching process).

But we also now know from Prometheus that the first "facehuggerversion" and then later the first level of Xenomorph popped out from a Engineer. So does the Predators co-exist during this timeline?

And I also don't understand the Engineers "biowarfareships", did they only create this process of evolution with all facehugger---->infest a specie---->evolve----->pop out as somekind of Xenomorph, with the intention of destroying planets (like Earth) with lifeforms that they wanted to wipe out as fast and efficient as possible?
What is the point of creating Humans with same DNA as the Engineers and then destroy them all with some advanced biowarfare evolution that is even dangerous for the Engineers themselves?

Edit: Spelling.

I thought it was good, at least I gave it 8/10. Expectations were lowered before going to watch it, seen it in 3D at a digital IMAX.

it's a somewhat vague prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien with several big, intentional holes between it and the first Alien film.. it doesn't even care about the morphology of xenomorphs in Aliens (as in, as far as Prometheus/Scott is concerned, the Alien Queen doesn't exist) let alone any kind of tangential connection with Predator.. asking "what does this mean for predator" is absolutely the wrong question to ask because it's completely irrelevant

Yes, that would be correct.

Just saw it in theaters for a midnight premiere, and it was perhaps one of the best movies I've seen in the last few years. I'm sure this isn't an actual spoiler, but I'm still going to mention my counter opinion to a seemingly popular criticism of the movie:

A bunch of my friends who went with me said that characters died too much in the movie, and it made the story seem like a boring horror film. But I have to completely disagree. The point of the deaths isn't just to be gruesome, like every lame horror movie nowadays. I would compare the dieing to what the author of "Game of Thrones" does with his books. It's not just the deaths, it's the fact that you don't know who will make it out alive or whether or not their death will actually mean something in the end.
Oh, get a job? Just get a job? Why don't I strap on my job helmet, squeeze down into a job cannon, and fire off into job land, where jobs grow on jobbies!

My thoughts summed up exactly. I also got tired of all the religious rambling going on; It felt so forced.

I think you missed the point of the film, starting with the first scene. Life and death were examined in how each person handles it. Each character who died confronted it in a different manner, with some fighting and others accepting it. It reminded me of The Grey actually. Some take it at face value and bemoan the obvious faults while ignoring the beautiful undertoe.

Despite some plot holes and flaws in the film, I really enjoyed it. I was immersed throughout the film and it met my expectations. The effects were really good, the story was nice and the music was great (although they overused the main theme, it gave me chills every time I heard it for some reasonn) I'd give it a 8/10. Things I didn't like: + Show Spoiler +
1) Guy Pierce as Weyland...He was amazing in the TED talk trailer, but he wasn't believable as an old man. The makeup was weird aswell. 2) The whole scene after the alien abortion with Shaw, what was that all about? She escaped and came back all bloody and stitched up and no one even asked a question. 3) Some cheesy dialogues and cliched characters
