So after spending WAY too much time on youtube tonight, I ended up on a video with a particular ad at the beginning. Instead of skipping it, I decided to watch it for some reason or another. In the commercial for this otherwise unheard of movie (atleast, as far as I can tell as there's no official site for it and the official trailer has 2k views) it depicts 3 guys in different scenarios. In a diner one guy stabs another with a fork, leaving the fork bent backwards and the guy unharmed. In another, it shows them messing around with a random guy in a supermarket, as well as scaring a little girl with a teddie bear. They seem to have some sort of telekanetic powers, which is awesome, but the fact that the guy in one of the first scenes in unharmed by being stabbed with a fork makes it seem like they have much more than telekanesis.
Anways, here's the trailer:
Plot: The three guys are drawn to a strange hole in the ground by a strange sound (you can hear one of them ask "What's making that sound?"). Maybe something falls from the sky? The trailer counts down from 50 hours at a certain point, so within two days (give or take) of being exposed to whatever gave them this power(s) all hell breaks loose. One of the guys in particular, named Andrew, seems to be abusing his newfound strength. I would assume after causing the car wreck, they would be questioned by the police, freak out over what happened and try to come up with a cover story. This Andrew character would then cause even more damage and eventually things would go downhill from there.
Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Michael Kelly, Alex Russell, Dane DeHaan, Ashley Hinshaw, Anna Wood, Joe Vaz, Matthew Dylan Roberts, Luke Tyler. Directed by Josh Trank
My own thoughts: I think it looks really interesting so far. It almost has that cloverfield feel to it, but hopefully it turns out to be really good. From the looks of it so far, I would deffinately say it's a movie I'd like to check out.
Genre:Genre: Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi (from what I just read). Comedy? I hope that the only funny parts are at the beginning when the guys are fooling around with their powers. Maybe things will slowly become much more darker as the movie progresses? I, personally, would be disappointed if they threw in random funny moments within serious scenes as this movie just doesn't seem to be that type..
Release Date: 2/3/2012
When more information is released I'll add it asap.
I saw this yesterday when a friend showed it to me on MSN. Looks great, it has the vibe and the visuals look amazingly realistic. Can't wait to see how it turns out, I hope it has some proper story, especially the ending, to it. Movies this year have been mostly disappointing to me. Next year is posed to deliver on paper so can't wait and this is added to the list to keep an eye on.
I hope they go in the direction of Iron Man and have the movie be: 80% superpower discovery, 20% fighting. This movie seems to capture the perfect atmosphere when the friends are just messing around with their powers.
looks sick actually. i like the premise, but as we all know, directors know many ways to screw up a movie, but regardless, will watch it as soon as its out. thanks for sharing!
Hmm, that black actor (I don't know his name) was in Friday Night Lights. I'm happy to see him get another role.
I'm a huge superhero movie fan so I guess I'm looking forward to this. This seems to be an interesting take on the genre--something like Akira. Instead of the protagonists running around fighting crime and doing good, they use their powers for selfish purposes and one of them loses control.
Let's just hope it doesn't fall under the "complete and total pile of crap" superhero movie (I Am Number Four/Jumper/etc.).

Yea thanks for calling that out, I read that on another site as well but was't 100% sure. I also read one of the other guys were from a series on NBC..forget the name though. I'll figure it out tomorrow though, I said I was going to sleep when I posted this and that was an hour ago - -'
Or is it just a superb script written up from scratch? Most super power movies always seem to be based on something, but this does look complelety new and different. Dark super power/hero movies seems right up my street.
Just saw the movie tonight. I thought it was fantastic. I absolutely loved it. It was very dark and put a whole new perspective to superheroes for me. I really really enjoyed it.
The real question is whether I'd take the path of Matt or Andrew if I wer ein their position.
Saw this movie on opening night. The "main" actor in this, Matthew was actually someone I was good friends with and highschool and graduated on the same year. Bias aside I thought the movie was pretty good. For a movie filmed the way it was it actually felt very smooth. I'd recommend it.

20% is a lot of fighting. At first the movie looked indie since you don't recognize any characters. I'm guessing there won't be too much senseless fighting either as it looks to be trying to tell a story about power and what we can do with it.
Horrible. Ending ruined it for me. Was expecting it to keep going... Although it was the normal movie length, just felt like it was getting started. Also I FUCKING CANNOT STAND hand held camera shit. Yeah, it's 'alternative' and all, but it's just a fucking pain in the ass trying to watch that shit.
I thought it was pretty good. The hand held cameras were quite steady overall... nothing like Blair witch or coverfield imo.
I thought the character development was pretty good, yea it felt short, but there kinda wasn't anything left for them to do really; they did school like 3 time, did 2 parties, played with their powers a ton, the arc with the kids dad was decently fleshed out.
Idn i was pretty satisfied with the movie; especially considering my usual strong distaste for the "found footage" genre.
I enjoyed this movie and would watch it again. It was fun with a dark twist but lacked some things that could have made it a really good movie. Seemed like a huge coincidence that the main character started carrying a camera around with him right before the main events of the movie started

indeed first thing i thot of when i saw him was friday night lights, he was pretty good^^
kind've dumb found footage kind've thing, especially considering they 'lost' his camera in the cave at the start of the movie. i felt rather bad for the main character until the end where he lashed out unexpectedly, i didn't really think that he'd crack like that.

Did you expect them to just play with their powers all movie and then ride off into the sunset? Even from the previews I thought it was mightily apparent that the main character was not living to the conclusion of the film.
I thought it was a pretty good movie, and that's coming from someone who fucking despises found footage movies. It wasn't like an award winning piece by any stretch of the imagination; but for what its trying to do it works really well.
I imagine this movie to contain about 90% of build up and 10% of action nearing the end. Hopefully it doesn't fit into the expectation because 10% is just way too less.

Your expectations are true.
FUUUUU...
I thought it was great. I think there is the perfect amount of action near the end to compliment the buildup/drama. There are some cheesy lines but the writing and jokes are good enough that you shouldn't be bored out of your mind. And like I said, when it starts it's the perfect amount of action (probably 15 minutes of action)
