I'm 99% sure that in the book he never follows Craster out to the woods and witnesses Craster giving white walkers his sons; Gilly just straight out tells them what happens to the sons and everyone moves on. Where the fuck are they going with this? I can kinda imagine them bending the timeline and having the "riot" earlier, but that doesn't really work because at the time there were only like 50 black brothers, not the current #. Maybe they will have white walkers attack them at some point instead of wildings attacking at the fist of the first men? I'm really curious. I didn't even notice the Bronn thing, frankly the King's Landing/Tyrion chapters bored me a bit in the 2nd book (They got good in the 3rd though). I remember Tyrion pwning Janos Slynt, but I didn't remember whether or not he promoted Bronn. I also think Craster knocking Jon out was a strange choice. Especially given that as far as I know the Jon storyline won't reappear before episode 5, and by that time they are at the Fist of the First men. It seems like an unnecessary cliffhanger. We know that Jon will travel through the frostfangs with Qhorin after that, so I don't think they have changed his storyline in any other significant way, and I don't think they have moved the attack too much forward. Note by the way that it was the White Walkers that attacked at the Fist in the book as well (opening of book 3). It was not the wildlings. It is plausible that they could have fit this attack into ep. 10 of season 2, but probably not earlier.

So far the small deviations the show has taken from the book has just created a little bit of suspense for me because I am not sure whats coming next with them

Its like how they used to sacrifice chickens/goats to appease the gods. It was not just a rumour. It was explicitly said by the daughter / wife that came to John. That woman even said the gods who took the boys had blue eyes. Does not get much more explicit. And when John told Mormont that Craster gives his sons and his animals to the Others, Mormont answered that he knew already. Which was strange because shortly ago Mormont was totally surprised by the Others and was nearly killed by one of their wights. Even more strange was that Mormont didnt act on that simply because Craster provided the Watch a roof from time to time. You might think that stopping supply to their number one enemy, the Others, is a priority for the Nights Watch. But they were apparently cool with more humans strengthening them further. At this part the book did not make much sense to me. Maybe the TV series will do better here.

At this part the book did not make much sense to me. Maybe the TV series will do better here. He probably knew that already but didn't really believe it. A man can sacrifice his children to "the Others," but that doesn't mean Mormont has to believe he's not just chucking his sons out into the cold until he actually sees a wight. Now that he knows they've returned, it probably gives a new meaning to what Craster has been doing with his sons. And I wouldn't really consider it "supplying" their number one enemy. How many sons could he possibly have? Compared to the number of wildlings that succumb to the Others, I'd be surprised if Craster's sons amounted to a drop in the bucket. He's much too valuable for his shelter beyond the wall to get all high and mighty and condemn him for trying to stay on good terms with his neighbors. Wish I hadn't come back to this thread though...I refuse to watch episode 2 until next week, and since they're actually straying from the book I'm getting spoiled ![]()

In the TV show she's only pious and fanatic. You can't see the sexuality and arrogance that she has in the books. Obviously this show is fantastic. Amazing production value and all around great casting! i found Melisandre hot, she's just like i imagined her. on the other hand Asha is ugly as fuck. I remember GRRM picturing her as not a southern beauty but having a wicked look (in a sexy way) - not fat and ugly.

Apart from all of this I really liked the 2nd episode and I can't wait to see the 3rd to find out what happens between John and Craster. P.S. I also didn't like the part where they killed one of Danny's riders for no apparent reason, and didn't even say who they killed.

She's supposed to be pretty in the eyes of the Ironborn. Salt water in her hair, hard weathered features and a bit tom boyish. Im getting really sick of people bitching about the casting for this show. I think they have done an excellent job. At the end of the day you can't find the perfect actor for every role.

Agree completely. Also everybody seems to imagine the book characters like models. Asha hasd to be super hot, Stannis has to look like Leonidas in this homoerotic comic etc. I am glad that the characters in GoT have a more natural look. Dont need another 300 or Spartacus or whatever.

I understand making Bronn new city watch commander. I understand not having Rorge without his nose. I can understand killing one of the bloodriders. I can even understand changing Asha name and looks. But I don't understand end of ep with John and Craster. wtf are they doing :/ Either Craster kills John or Ghost kills Craster. Both ways suck for rest of the story (of course I don't expect John to die). What else can happen?! Craster just takes John back to Mormont and tells them all to go away (which is just stupid as killing him is more logical). Or Ghost attacks Craster but John stops him before he kills him and takes him back to Mormont but Mormont sides with Craster as he does not want to lose his help. This again is stupid to me as Ghost is big enough now to just rip Crasters throat open. I wish they found another way to create a cliffhanger....

Some people will set their expectations to an unachievable level and then complain when something doesn't meet their standards. I doubt they even realize they are doing it. I would find it impossible to enjoy anything with an outlook like that. I think the show is great, the cast is well rounded, the characters are portrayed well. Not sure what there is to complain about, then again I've always been easy to please and had an easy time enjoying most things. Different strokes for different folks.

Or yknow, you can get all worked up over it if that floats your boat. I like that they added this in and am geniunely curious whats going ot happen, excited for the next episode. I find it odd that you assume what you think is going to happen, will happen, and then call it stupid and get mad about it.....how can you possibly enjoy anything with that kind of attitude?

I imagined Asha very similar to that, but with black hair (not relevant). I liked Saan, Gendry, Hotpie and Jaqen H'ghar also, can't wait for more of them. I like the way they cut characters by promoting Bronn, very smart, and not a big deal. Now the question is if they will just merge the 2 deaths by Melissandre, and bring Edric Storm out of nowhere (or cut him).
