@moopie: Yea I was just responding to that guy trying to clear up what happened in the TV show. In the books if Joffrey did that, that also would be somewhat out of character.

He has to come of age or some shit, and until then Cersei rules as queen. Hmm, this might actually be a large change.

But Bronn being head of the City Watch prob means they didn't want to cast the guy who eventually replaces Janos Slynt? That does kind of...screw with Bronn's development since his mercenary/do what Tyrion says role was solid. Putting him in charge of the City Watch messes with it - although it does "fast track" his wanting to be a Lord ideal. That will probably linger around long enough (like 2 seasons at least) to have that small conflict with Cersei.

The only potential plothole it opens is that if he's part of the city watch then technically Cersei (as regent) could just get rid of him (why offer him Lollys to gain his allegiance if you can just fire him or send him into exile). She didn't really have juristiction over him when he led Tyrion's group of mercenaries.

None of them were given any leadership roles. Bronn's replacing that one guy... forgot his name... I liked him, but he didn't exactly last long. Episode 2 Spoiler for those of you who want to wait until next week + Show Spoiler + They're also making the white walkers much more prominent, eh? Seeing one already. I saw the blue eyes! There was always the assumption that he gave his sons to the Others to keep himself safe, but now we know for sure. And speaking of assumptions. MELLISANDRE! Again, even though it was always assumed, we now KNOW that Stannis fucked her to create the demon shadow thing (which I by the way thought was the lamest part of the entire series. Seroiusly? Shadow demon birth thing? That's a bit silly). Which is neat. I never realized that the show can help us learn things that the books couldn't.

I know it isn't explicitly stated in the books, but I still think it's pretty obvious that Craster gifted his boys to the Others, and Stannis obviously has sex with Mellisandre to birth the shadows.

Heavily hinted and/or implied. But now it's confirmed. ;P The Stannis one was a bit harder to believe. He's just so very uptight. He's made out to be practically asexual... he doesn't like sex. He just does it because it's his duty. To make sons.

Well it was a rumor that he sacrificed his sons to the others. Thats not really the same as actually giving them and them actually being recieved. Its like how they used to sacrifice chickens/goats to appease the gods.

I didn't even notice the Bronn thing, frankly the King's Landing/Tyrion chapters bored me a bit in the 2nd book (They got good in the 3rd though). I remember Tyrion pwning Janos Slynt, but I didn't remember whether or not he promoted Bronn.

I thought it was explicitly stated in the books. I don't think it was said this early on, but I think it Gilly tells Sam probably in book 3. Usually I don't pick up on these things if they are implied, so I'm pretty sure it was explicitly said at one point :D

That said, while I'm enjoying the adaptation I do miss the loss of ... details. Like for example Janos Slynt about to be bounced off to the Wall, I think there was some mention of him being made a lord, and they don't even mention Harrenhal. Why? Probably because it would mean nothing to readers and to explain Harrenhal was where Rhaegar saw Lyanna ... Would need even more explanation. I don't think that was even covered properly was it? But that's just nitpicking, I realise they can't achieve everything.
