Like the shield thing, the "wall" of dead people, Jon rushing off alone (I mean Jon reactions is understandable but the way it went down was stupid), LF saves the day (obvious but the way it went down was stupid) etc.. This is exactly what we all thought when watching it. Like, several serious scenes would get laughs because it was just so weird and/or stupid. Everything looked amazing but it's just impossible to get immersed when the actions don't make any sense :s

Weren't you a perfectly rational and self-aware individual when you were 11-13 years old and had your life ruined by savages that killed your family and ate your parents and then you made friends with a new father figure who befriended the very same people who fucked your world up entirely?

Having to listen to my friends talking about how much more realistic the show is now compared to the first seasons is driving me crazy. I'm glad there are people who feel the same.

Jon Snow died. He literally died. And he still hasn't learned patience. Sansa spelled it out for him "Don't do what he wants you to do! Don't fall into his trap!" He still acts purley out of emotions.

Now the show has different priorities. The show has drawn in a vast audience that's 4-5 times larger than the viewership in season 1 and now has almost a blank check for funding. What does this mean? Well now the show has to appeal to 8 million people instead of 1 or 2 and has to keep increasing its numbers. What better way to do this than to blow your money on big action sequences and let everything else fall to the wayside? Who needs story when you can have graphic battles and big booms and blood everywhere? If season 1 or 2 came out with the same budget as season 6 then I would imagine that we'd get giant Lannister vs. Stark battles and white walkers riding on ice spiders and who knows what else. The show is a victim of its success. Plain and simple.

Well now the show has to appeal to 8 million That doens't make any type of sense though. The reason it began to appeal to 8 million viewers was becasue of it being the best drama show. Focussing more on the action and fantasy over the next series doesn't necasarily imply that viewership will be affected, but its nonsense to imply that it has to cater to a larger audience now by getting rid of what made it initially succesful.

Yeah, the thing I liked about GoT (and still do), is that I was able to get lost in the complexity, and go read the wiki which would redirect me to so many places, in order to understand the situation clearly, it required a lot of thinking and analysis. I think that aspect, plus not being afraid to go into controversial territory (it's a natural world where people like incest and the like), and showing these things just shows you they aren't worried about a political agenda, and I liked that a lot. I suppose it's nice that I get to see pretty action sequences with the characters I love, but if I want to see action, I'm much more likely to go watch a movie which does the action better, the difference that in GoT they contribute to character development, while in movies not so much (usually). Anyway, to my point - I agree with you wholeheartedly that people didn't come to the show for action, and if anything, it's a nice small addition to better portray the complex story (versus using your imagination for all of it). You know, like 5 days ago I downloaded the season one in 1080p and rewatched the first 4 or 5 episodes, and I was so impressed with the show. The dialogue is absolutely wonderful, the story is so well thought out in those stages, it's really a pleasure to watch. I suppose it's natural how you have to slowly get bigger and bigger, but the way the early parts of the show were done are fantastic. Looking back, I'd rather have that kind of stuff instead of big battles and a more shallow story. That said, I don't think the writing is decreasing in quality as many would like to think. Also, saying the budget was small back then to now is completely false. Back then the budget was 60 million a season, and now it's 100 million. Of that 100 million, just the top 20 biggest actors are receiving 30~ million, which in the first season or two was closer to 10 million. So really, their budget "only" increased roughly 40% on non-actors.

The dialogue has likely taken a hit because: - D&D no longer have the source material to go to. - The "real" epic fantasy story is unfolding, switching the focus of the show from human politics to man vs. the Others, which inherently reduces the need and opportunity for great dialogue (especially since no Other has even spoken so far) - They are starting to wrap everything up, and are favoring that over quality dialogue and slow boil. The developments are happening crazy fast, there's very little room for slow, intense political intrigue anymore. I think I'll still watch all 8 seasons, even if I don't like it as much anymore. On the bright side, it's made me a lot more eager to read TWoW now. Especially after that Euron chapter GRRM released.

I am with you in this one, it doesnt make any sense, so in order to grow you have to bail the "initial" 8 million?
