IIRC it's the longest episode yet. I think it was 69 minutes.
But yeah they have to show Lyanna and probably the white walkers as well...

Kinda funny how easily you can sneak armies around in Westeros without anyone noticing. I mean, it was obvious someone or something would turn up for the rescue (or to kill everyone if it was the white walkers), but there's gotta have been a better way to do it. At least when Stannis did it it made more sense because he came through the sea and landed on the other side of the wall.
Also, for a few seconds I expected Ramsey to use his dogs to kill Rickon instead of his haxxor bow skillz, but I guess they needed to save the dogs for the end.

I did apprecuate the visceral and very real depiction of war seen in Bastardbowl but I felt like it didnt have much substance to it.

All i want to know is why a fucking giant doesn't get a fucking giant weapon?
If he had a giant sword, axe or even a fucking tree he would have killed hundreds..
If they give him rocks to throw he would be like a trebuchet... god damn noobs

Because then he would crush that pikeman surround and there would be no "unexpected" LF rescue at last moment.
Or to stop that they would have to kill him sooner and Jon could not have a dying heart touching scene with him inside Winterfell.

Why? I'd rather kill a 4-5m giant (Ultralisk) who can rip me in two, than a normal person (Space Marine). IMO I'd would be rather retarded if he killed Jon but left the giant alive

actually the whole thing was completely suicidal from the get-go, its like jon had given up on life, even said he will kill his sister if the battle fails . i wonder if dying was supposed to instill in him a feeling of caring less about living. like, in the book will we get a better picture of his desperation*
actually when fran or whatever was shot down, i was fully expecting jon to turn back and call off the battle (not kidding, i had no idea there was an insane battle coming up). coz it was just uncharacteristically suicidal (not the charging, but the whole thing). then again , so was the stannis battle which was like literally 40 men vs 400 (i still dont believe stannis is dead)
*actually if you take the fact that so many scenes make little sense because we don't feel like we are shown why characters make actions (arya story/scenes, blackfist suicide), its probably because "in the books" we get a full run-down on peoples inner thoughts so things make more sense there, but when they translate them to video they don't do a good job of bringing these inner thoughts over *has never read 1 page from the books* . i get the impression consequently that the series of late is more of a companion to the books, like you should read the books first so you know people's inner thoughts and intentions and then watch the series to see what goes on "around"

^ I agree that story fuckups like Braavos are most likely because GRRM gave the producers the broad strokes, for example Arya will return to Westeros to do X, and they have to figure out a way to make that happen - combined with what looks like a drastically reduced remaining show runtime (15 episodes in total left?!?) they might have decided to ditch a possible subplot with the Faceless and simply have Arya return as Arya, and let the whole Faceless Men storyline end there.

Special effects budget and time. They didn’t have the ability to have him hit troops and ragdoll them around without it looking like shit. The focus of the episode what Jon and the pitched battle, they had to limit what the giant could do.
Have no doubt there was a discussion, they priced it out and decided it couldn’t be done. The biggest limiting factor behind shooting special effects shots is time and the cost of shooting composite shots, which is why the giant is so hard. The special effects on that giant were amazing for a TV show.

I enjoyed the episode and visually it looked great but am I the only who cannot get over how stupid everything was?
Like the shield thing, the "wall" of dead people, Jon rushing off alone (I mean Jon reactions is understandable but the way it went down was stupid), LF saves the day (obvious but the way it went down was stupid) etc..
