I think at the point after the red wedding I kept reading to see if the Lannisters would get their karmic justice. And boy did they. Sooooo crazy stoked for book 5. I'll prob read it in like a day and then be really sad i have to wait for 2 years + for book 6 ![]() This is probably the most common reaction people have to that chapter ![]()

My theory then is that he gets out book 6 back in the normal timeframe of his first 4 books. 2ish years between.

Marillion is a bard and I don't think they have even given him a name yet in the series. It'd be pretty damned easy to write a new bard into the story by the time Littlefinger and Sansa arrive at the Eyrie. They can even call him Marillion because the only people who know that the bard getting his tongue ripped out is called Marillion are people who read the books. Also... he doesn't actually die, just has his tongue cut out and I definitely remember a scene from the books with that song in it and Joffrey and Cersei setting an example of a random minstrel. One thing that did bother me a bit was that the Hound was wearing Kingsguard armor without the scene in which he is promoted to the Kingsguard without being knighted. I felt that his aversion to knights was quite an important comment emphasizing how badly his brother and some other knights (Meryn Trant comes to mind) were straying from their oaths.

Whats delayed everything so much was his idea to split the books the way he did. And if you read his blog, he always referenced some Meereen knot that he was struggling with. That said, two years is very unlikely. But after reading a few interviews by Martin, he seems confident that he won't have such big delays in the future. He said things like he already knows how it will all end and that hes written several chapters already for future books. I'd gamble on four years ![]()

You're right! I totally just glossed over that having read the books. That's a pretty important part too imo b/c he starts talking about how he's no knight. And accepting the Kingsguard promotion begrudgingly. Of the stuff they've omited that is an annoying one imo. It wouldn't have taken them more than like 5 mins. I'd be curious to know if someone who hasn't read the books cares about that or even noticed he was in kingsguard armor. Just to see the POV of someone who has only seen the episodes it may not have been that huge of a deal to them. Then again it could be a huge confusion point for those viewers if they do notice he's now in kingsguard armor.

best examples of what i am talking about are 2 that happened on episode 9. first, Tyrion tells the story about tysha but doesnt mention the fact that he fucked her last for a gold coin cause a lannister is worth more. i mean he told the whole story. 10 more seconds just gives the reader a sense of completion. second, lord mormont gives jon longclaw. however he doesnt mention at all the fact that it is a "bastard" sword, and making the parallel between him and the sword. this time this is not that important but it would again only take 10 seconds to make the analogy. why not say it and be done with it instead of omitting it completely. we have lines like "play with her ass" and they wont put those 2 lines, imo some of the most memorable from the first book.

I agree. The Tysha subplot is probably one of my favourite and most tragic parts of the books. It really gives a sense of what formed Tyrion into the cynical man that he is. When the truth comes out - the feeling of betrayal is intense.

I was more bothered by Jon not leaving Longclaw at Castle Black when deserted. It was a point of honor for him to believe that he does not deserve the sword as a deserter. It also would have made the scene where Sam gives him the sword back more meaningfull. I wish they fired these guys and found a better writers and directors for season 2.

I think the writers overall got the good parts in. The chats with whores are there to give background on the characters, although I did find the scene with Pycelle completely unnecessary for episode 10: this coud easily have gone into season 2, when Pycelle actually plays a role in which his history with kings and Lannisters is relevant. This would've given some room for the hound's promotion and a short scene of jon explicitly leaving longclaw behind. The whorehouse scene with Littlefinger in episode 7 was very well done, though. Also we got Theon's backstory and character development through Ros, which might not've been entirely necessary, but did create a nice impact when he swore his sword to Robb in the last episode.

I wish they fired these guys and found a better writers and directors for season 2. I lol'ed. The writers and directors on this show are better than most of what we see on movie screens, let alone television. Who would you sugget HBO hired instead of them ?

If there's anything we need, it's the writers of "Buddy Cop Crime Drama #38" adding their two cents into how the story is told. Maybe you're forgetting that, you know, the author of the actual books is helping them write and direct?

As for the writing, all the episodes stick closely to the book, including some dialogues and monologues being retranscribed verbatim, and the only scenes that were changed explained some things that were done through introspection or inner monologues in the books, which you can't do on TV. I, for one, would prefer that George left the TV writing to the TV writers, and get to work on books 6 and 7.
