Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |
My theory about the zombies at the end of the latest episode is that those zombies are a part of one of the roaming "herds." Possibly coming from Atlanta, or some other nearby place. As we've seen before, walkers like to be around their own kind. Episode 1 we see all the walkers packed into one street in Atl. And many other places we see the walkers self coral themselves into groups. Sure there are the stragglers, and the small groups. But in the post-zombie era there are large herds that roam.
How many zombies do you think could spawn out of a city(Atlanta) of just over 5 million humans in the first weeks of the pandemic? Lets be modest and suggest 30% (though I personally think the figure to be upwards of 60-70%). That breaks down to roughly 1.5million zombies from Atlanta alone. It does not seem logical for all 1.5 million to stay in the city when the food source runs scarce.
But why show up on that farm on that night? Its simply for hype. Your talking about it. I'm talking about it. But plot wise it's just got to be a random roving herd that was attracted to the noise. They need something big to end the season on. But like Shane told Carl about Dale's death, "wrong place, wrong time."

But they killed Shane off, and he was the main driving point of conflict in the show (barring the zombie horde, of course). So... I just don't know. I'm loving the show, I just hope it doesn't slow down now. Considering the overall pace of this season ... I doubt they can get much slower. Only in the last few episodes have we had any kind of a sense of urgency. Next season will have more episodes, but the story arc they are tackling should be must faster paced/interesting than the first 7 or so episodes of this season were.

The walkers showing up is probably a result of bad writing but I rationalized it so that every bullet ever fired in the farm causes the walkers to go in the general direction of the farm, then after enough walking, they stop until they hear another sound to go after. Carl's shot was the last straw in terms of leading the zombies to the farm. We still don't know much about walker behavior so it could be anything besides them showing up just for the sake of plot advancement or an actual believable reason. It's not really bad writing, there are a number of reasons they may have ended up there though it is convenient to the plot. But it's more of Zombies happened to be in the area when the gun was fired or maybe they started heading there when the guns were fired earlier (so when Daryl shoots Dale) and then got sidetracked until they heard Carl shoot. This isn't a comic plot spoiler, but is a spoiler about comic zombie behavior. + Show Spoiler +In the comics the zombies are pretty stupid (as you'd expect), but essentially what happens is if a zombie starts moving in a direction for any stupid reason (even just chance) other zombies will follow it, then that zombie will start following the zombies following it so they just end up wandering in a herd/pack that just gathers more zombies as it goes. So no matter where you are, eventually some zombies are likely to find you. Chances are what happened here is that a pack was wandering nearby when the gun was fired and it attracted them. They may have also started heading in the direction of the farm due to one of the random trips the gang has taken over time or even because an acorn fell of a tree and a zombie started walking towards the sound.
Don't forget, Shane had fired his gun off as he was stabbed, which could've further attracted the 'herd'. There's also the fact that Rick was screaming when he killed Shane, and after he killed Shane "YOU MADE ME DO THIS. NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU". Then we had Carl fire his gun. Any combination of this anywhere else within a small vicinity would attract zombies, if this herd was moving through and heard all of that, it makes sense that they appeared. At least to me it does.

Yeah AMC is pretty horrible at keeping major plot developments a secret.

Crazy last episode. I never read the graphic novels but when I saw the Rick/Shane duel scene it seems like something inspired right out of the novel.
Edit: I'm talking about the scenery with the huge moon and all that.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm about ready for Carl to get killed off. Both the character and the actor annoy me. "Do it, Dad. Shoot him. I'm a hardcore 8-yr-old, Dad. Hell, if you don't shoot him then I'm going to."

wow... spoilers... wow.... i couldn't help it, i read it... i read it all... and my god........

Walking Dead Season 2 has been Lost Season 3 bad. Absolutely atrocious. The only word I have to describe this season outside the last 5 minutes of this last episode is 'Banal'.

The final scene of the past week's episode wasn't even the best scene this season, and it wasn't even close in my opinion. I agree it hasn't been very good at all considering the tremendous viewer #'s they got and the hype surrounding it but you're selling it a bit short if you're saying that was the only scene that was worth a damn all season.

The spoilers are amazing.. can't wait.. do yourselves a favor though, don't be weak like me.

so after reading the spoilers I have to say. FUCK YES.

I'm probably being a bit damning and the only reason that scene is standing out to me is because I literally just watched it. It's just been very "Bleh"
The only character that's grown on me is Darryl. The rest seem to have been written to go out of their way to be tedious and trivial outside of Shane. Darryl battling against his hallucinated brother was definitely a great moment, the same with him finding the flower and the soliloquy (holy shit spelt it right first time, what a baller) that followed and the whole finding what we presume is the girls bed (I can't even remember her name lol, Sophie?) were season defining moments, but that's only one character. So yeah you're probably right, I'm being critical of it because I just felt it had so much more potential than this.
The reason I say Lost Season 3 is because I kept on watching Lost even if it did suck ass it had it's moments.

If it carries on like this next year though I'm giving up. I watched Heroes for too god damn long to waste my time on another show again.

Why do people think it's ok to comment on spoilers that they have read? Commenting on the spoilers is spoiling in itself.

Does anyone know where I can get issues of the comic book for cheap. I just bought Vol 1 from Barnes and Noble and it ran me 10 dollars. Also they didn't have Vol 2,3,4, or 5 so I'm not really sure were to get them without having to buy them online.

i wish the actual episode was leaked online somewhere, ill just have to wait. i hate spoiling stuff then watching it later

And my theory about what Jenner told Rick is that Rick is immune to the zombie disease.

Hm I don't know what to say. The Shane-Rick thing was the reason I was keeping to watch the series. I liked the char Shane and now there are only Daryl and Glenn left. Rick is just so boring you always know what he is going to do next cause he develops so slowly. I mean Shane was the same but just in the bad way and you were always like "no, he wont do that he is bad but he cant be that bad", but surprise he just did it again. Lets see where this is going, but without Shane I think this will be very boring, maybe they can focus more on Glenn and Daryl now. Everyone else is just boring as shit and I dont care them.

Wow. I'm one of those that are fans of the comic and don't find the show very good, but this last episode was actually very good imo. I can't wait for the season finale.
+ Show Spoiler [minimal comic spoiler] +Finally a herd ! Fuck yes
