The German voices were horrible, that wasn't even German. The whole Funnybot thing wasn't funny at all. Maybe the Perry thing could have been funny, but i didn't get this as non American.

i know the season will get better though.. i've listened to all of their commentaries and they don't just MAKE a bad episode. they (as u prolly know) make each episode in a 7 day period so some weeks just nothing funny comes to mind and you get pre written ones like this (which are funny, but just not south park quality)

I will agree that this episode, however, kind of sucked. But the season opener sucked more. South Park has consistently lost consistency over the past several seasons, but I guarantee it'll have some winners soon enough.

1. The Germans. I thought their portrayal of the Germans as humorless automatons was lacking. The concept wasn't even really explored much beyond the couple of bad jokes the one German tries to tell. 2. Comedy Awards. I'm sure some of you aren't aware, but this episode was a direct response to Comedy Central's recent Comedy Awards show, a concept that Matt and Trey obviously find somewhat distasteful. I can certainly understand their reasoning, but their logic as to why it's a bad idea was faulty and unsatisfying. I'd assume that this is because articulating why they don't like it during the episode would've been long and difficult to execute (and, ironically, make it seem like they take the issue too seriously), but I'm still disappointed they didn't try and just shoehorned that line in about taking comedy too seriously. 3. Tyler Perry. I'm sure many of you outside of the US have absolutely 0 idea who he is or why he was suddenly dressed like a woman. Tyler Perry is the purveyor of a franchise of film properties that market themselves almost exclusively to African-American audiences. Imagine "Big Momma's House" meets "Barbershop" being produced for a daytime network TV station like Lifetime, except even less funny than that image. Perry himself frequently appears as characters in his own films, most notably as "Madea," a tedious caricature of a snappy, irreverent fat black woman. The disspiriting thing about these films is that, despite usually being roundly panned by critics, the target audience flocks to theaters, insuring subsequent sequels and derivative garbage (hence Token constantly giving him money). 4. Referential Comedy. I think Matt and Trey were also trying to take a jab at the popular trend of referential comedy, where jokes rely more on a reference or nostalgia than a particularly clever observation or insight. This isn't exclusive to "bad comedy" (Dane Cook, a ton of lazy Family Guy jokes) either. Good comedians (like a Patton Oswalt or, South Park itself) can fall prey to leaning too much on this device at times, too. Some of the Funnybot's jokes were clearly nodding at this (the "one million dollars worth of Oprah's tampons" and "Steve Wonder's vagina" were pretty funny mockeries of it). I think this part of the episode may have been missed by some of the audience, and I think it's because they never let Jimmy address it at the end. Those are some of the problems I saw with the episode. It wasn't all bad, though. I loved the shot of the German fuming over the podium at the start, and I thought some of the skewering they did with regard to #4 above was hilarious. Ultimately though, it wasn't a great episode. I'm also a little disappointed they didn't go after the comedians any more than they did. They all just sort of stood around in the background like props (except for "Adam Sandler", who could've really been anyone). I know they're under a huge time crunch between this and their Broadway show, so I hope that once Book of Mormon gets into a groove they can focus more on the new episodes.

As in, you know how the actual German voice should sound. It would be pretty easy to deceive most of the people that aren't Germans.

In which they also turned our characters into adults whom we no longer care about. It is really sad how good this show was... just watch a show from the first few seasons and watch one now.. it was so much better. The dramatic situations are called satire.
