There are plenty of athletes in western countries who practice/work/compete over christmas or new years eve. Taking an entire month or several weeks off when you know there is a major competition just around the corner is both unprofessional and immature. I've spent plenty of red days with my nose buried in assorted course material, because that's what I had to do to get a decent grade.

These guys are supposed to be professional athletes. Time to start acting like it.

lets not forget the fact it's NOT chinese new year but rather lunar new year which both Malay and Korea also celebrate.

Korea is more removed from the lunar calendar than China is.
Korea's biggest religion is Christianity so generally people take time off to celebrate during the Christmas time which usually doesn't leave them much vacation days for lunar new years.
From what I heard about how China celebrates, they make a much bigger deal about it than we do.

doubt itll be any better since chinese new year is a thing.

? chinese new year is done.
unless you mean it impeded on practice, which it really shouldn't.
it's literally one weekend that not everybody observes.

Do you know much about living in china? The celebrations last like half a month and people have like a week off to go back to their families and not work in general. I'm not sure CNY is a good enough reason for how shit the chinese teams have been, but it couldn't have helped.

Chinese New Year or not, they should have known better that Western teams have been shitting on Chinese dota pretty hard for the past months and a Major on their home turf is nothing but a huge chance for Chinese dota to redeem themselves ... so i don't buy the whole holiday bullshit, it's either lack of professionalism, motivation or sheer skill ...

Sometimes you have holiday on your holiday. Considering Asians are typically incredible hardworking, it is hard to fault them for spending a small period of time with family at a time that honors just that.

It is not like the 10 week summer holidays you have in Sweden, when at school, or the 5 weeks paid vacation.

I doubt that this short period of time hindered them. In fact it can often be quite good to have a bit of rest, after training hard.

This holiday is more like Christmas, New years, birthday, thanksgiving rolled into one event. There are fewer paid holidays in China than in the "west". All these "no excuse" posts straight up lack perspective, showing lack of maturity and depth in the poster.

The "no excuse" posts show none of that. They show the reality of the situation. If the Chinese teams knew they'd have 7-10 days off in the near term before the Major, they should have had their preparation done before CNY and then just gotten back into practice after the break. They still had a week. All of the Chinese teams have shown almost no preparation for the teams they were playing against. Their drafts have been terrible. That's wholly down to planning for the event itself.

Yeah instead of trying to understand their cultural holiday and why it has such a big impact on their lives, lets just mock it.

Must be very convenient to be able to simply dismiss any dissent on the subject as being born of a lack of maturity and depth. I am perfectly open to the argument, but the random insults make it far less compelling.

I maintain that taking time off is a personal choice. As a pro player your schedule will largely be determined by tournament dates rather than a standard 9-5 week. Sometimes they overlap or conflict with holidays. That sucks. It's still not a valid excuse.

edit: Your posts seem very defensive. If you are more familiar with this particular holiday than us, how about simply explaining why it's so important rather than throwing around snide comments that don't really help anything?

Sure if its more important than doing well in a 3 million dollars tournament on your home ground in front of millions fans than im pretty sure they made the right choice...

Chinese people take a week off for chinese new year and travel back to their family homes. It's just what happens.

What you are "maintaining" is based on your own lack of understanding of a foreign culture. The chinese new year break is far more than the average holiday. That being said, I do agree that it is not a good enough reason for how badly they have sucked so far.

Starts calling Chinese players immature and unprofessional then gets upset about being called out for lacking maturity. smh

in this case its not a personal choice but a family choice. of course they couldve spent some time on dota at home but typically the chinese teams are pretty lazy when they want to be.
