I wonder what the effect of Na'Vi winning The International for a second time will be on the competitive scene. Somehow, I just feel it's just not interesting to have one team dominate the scene for so long.

Also interesting that Na'Vi probably practiced the least out of all the teams... Apparently, you need something else than practice to be good at Dota.

Aside of their obvious talent, they have something a lot of different teams (especially western) lack. A huge amount of experience together. They just know each other so damn well that they are able to fuse so good.

Oh and the team with the least practice is obviously Mouz, who didn´t even knew they would play until one day before the prems.

I heard mouz bootcamped with NaVi before the tournament

The winner's bracket champ had to play less games, meaning less fatigued. That's advantage already.

Wow that's beyond stupid :s. The winner to the bracket should have a 1-0 advantage :s

Obvious bias much?

No one likes extended series in MLG, but when a foreign team stands to gain, hey, why not?

WTF? Nothing to do with extended series LOL. Winner bracket teams always have an advantage in the grand finals, be it needing to win just one bo3 or having another kind of advantage like a map lead... it's the advantage of NOT having lost any games.

Valve believes that having to play extra games, and in this case if LGD wins, it would be 3 games WB finals, 2-3 games LB finals, and then 3-5 Grand Finals, all without a break, while the winner of WB gets few hours off is more than enough advantage.

Yeah well, maybe. But i don't think those progamers will get exhausted by just playing some more games. Maybe they'll reveal some tactics or special stuff but i doubt that as well.

These are not just "some games". Context is so very important, if you think these games are the same as your local scrims or public matchmaking, you are mistaken.
The mental fatigue of playing three of the most demanding game series back-to-back with the biggest pressure you've ever felt, with a crowd that, let's be honest, doesn't like you... it's taxing to say the least.

At the same time, a team losing a double elimination tournament by losing one match seems tremendously stupid. But it's unavoidable due to the length of DotA 2 games, so they had to compromise somehow.

they should make it bo5 giving a 1 win advantage to the team from the winner bracket.

you mean going into a 50/50 chance to be eliminated isn't good? I don't think you understand how numbers work.

Why do you give a team which lost earlier a second chance, and not to the one from winners bracket? The most "fair" system here is two BO3 series - so the losers bracket winner knocks out the winners bracket team, and then they fight with no advantage on both sides. And it's even more of advantage for the winners bracket then starting with 1-0 in BO5.

IMO XBOCT certainly isn't the strongest on Na`Vi. He's definitely extremely good, but not quite legendary status of Dendi/Puppey/LoH. I would even place Ars-art above XBOCT if I had to simply based on his long gaming history.

Completely agree. In fact XBOCT made several mistakes during this series, that really shows how strong players the rest are to be able to counterweigh that!

Like? I'd again like to point at game 1 where despite an AWFUL start he managed to get numerous kills and became #1 in farm in the whole game, him completely carrying in game 2 and 3, amazing farm in game 3 on a freaking Faceless Void who's not even picked ever.

It's like people completely ignore carry players. Killing heroes = you're a god. However farming well should be automatic and when you do that it's no big deal and no-skill.

Once again, like I said, he's still an extremely good player. In a team of legendary players, being an extremely good player is still 'the weakest link'.

I'd like a weakest link who in the most pressured game in his life goes 11-2 with his team averaging below 1:1 kd over 8:1 cs to minute ratio on a hero who's never picked.

Is this a game in this thread? State a truly provocative point that is just asking to be responded to and spend the next hour defending it with the same two points?

There's a difference between extended series and giving the winner's bracket an advantage, you know. If winner's bracket has no advantage, it sort of defeats the purpose of having a winner's bracket and loser's bracket.

There is an advantage. Ask LGD if they want to play against iG in the lower bracket and then na`vi again.

Ask Navi if they'd rather get two chances in the finals or one with no actual option. Navi already beat iG.

It's an undeniable disadvantage when one team has two losses and the other team only gets one before they're eliminated.

That's such stupid reasoning jesus christ. You have losses but you have MORE WINS against TOP teams as well. It is a huge advantage that you get to rest while another team has a chance to get knocked out by iG, a team that went 13-1 in group stages including against na`vi. It's unbelievably better to play through the upper bracket all the way through and no one will ever throw. If you wanna whine, I can say that na`vi went 8-6 and overall they lost more than LGD. The advantages go in phases and this is certainly an advantage.

Then they shouldn't use double elimination.

And they do have decent breaks. Maybe not long breaks and maybe they're still in the spotlight but it's not like physically exhausting. More mentally, and yeah i'll give you that they do have mental advantage (Na'vi) now.

I, for one, am exhausted just from watching those games xD. Was like nothing I've seen before in eSports.

No point discussing the whole 1:0 lead thing really. It's completely subjective as to whether you think they deserve the extra advantage.

Once again, ask Navi if they want another match against iG, if they win they get two chances in the finals, if they lose they only get one. They would almost certainly choose to take an opportunity for more chances in the finals, which everyone else already go. These are progamers, they aren't running multiple marathons, these guys can crank out these many games in a day without too much difficulty. You can make all the arguments you want at this point but it's actually basic mathematics and logic and the reason why double elimination is double elimination.

Everyone gets 2 chances before being knocked out of the tournament. If everyone but one team gets two chances, that is unfair to that one team.

I'm only gonna say this once because this is getting stupid.

You're only arguing which advantage is better. NO SHIT HAVING 1-0 lead is better ON TOP of not having to play iG. But to say that winning over LGD now in the upper bracket is not an advantage is STUPID.

If na`vi got a 1-0 lead THEN IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR. You don't understand that they would also have played less opponents than LGD who also would only have one loss if they ended up winning the whole thing.

That's $250,000 per player, not counting other events. Only MVP in 2011 had more, barely, with $253,000. Next one down is MC with $139,000.

what?
no

Ti2 came dangerously close to a boring all-chinese farmfest affair.

if anything , Navi saved Ti2

Ironically Na`Vi picks the harder carry in Games 1 and 3, farms harder on Void while Naga tries to push with the team for most of the game. Bias much?

Original statement: it's boring if Na'Vi wins twice
Rebuttal: it would be more boring without Na'Vi, because then there'd only be Chinese teams (which can turn in to hour+ passive games, though not always)
Your statement: Na'Vi farms too

While true, your statement isn't really relevant. The point is that Na'Vi is the only non-Chinese team doing well and the games have been exciting, which makes up for the "dullness" of possibly having a repeat champion.
