There's a constant debate about this but basically Maledict is great on paper but more complicated to get as much out of as you would like. Meanwhile stats have obvious advantages especially on a hero who is a huge target during his ult and who wants a nice fat mana pool for sustain.

Maledict range is really bad and you want to have stayability to keep healing your team. Better for organized gameplay but much worse for ganking

I often do the same thing, simply because I can utilise the heal during the laning stage. WD is a walking Death Ward with an annoying stun... that can also heal in the laning phase.

Stuff like rot level 1 and ion shell don't do enough damage Sand storm level 1 also does insufficient damage I think you can salve through rot until it's level 4 actually. At the very least, level 2 can be as well.

Maledict is a decent spell but it's TERRIBLE until you have it at least level 3. Since you *need* to be maxing your stun to have an impact as a low-level support, you can't get maledict 3 until at least level 8. Meanwhile, long before level 8 a point or two of heal will have a HUGE impact (its bonkers good) so you get those points delaying maledict even further and eventually u get to the point where maledict 4 isn't even good anymore, yet you still don't even have maledict 1. Then you skip maledict completely.
If you were like middoctor, then you could max maledict and go hammmmmm. Maybe.
oops im a day late

Maledict also has higher relative value lategame compared to early game because of how it interacts with Magic Immunity: the debuff can be applied through Magic Immunity, and is not removed by it. It does magic damage, so it doesn't do damage during the Magic Immunity, but it continues to track incoming damage and applies it as normal once it's over. As such, Maledict has it's highest relative value as a skill once BKB durations have shortened down to 5-6 seconds (higher than before Magic Immunity is in play because damage dealt as a whole is so much higher later). You're not in a hurry to max it early game like most nukes.

say im a wraith king with 1hp and exactly enough mana for ult to proc on death. a diffusal carrier (or antimage) hits me and kills me. do i respawn? i.e. is the mana burn applied before or after the rest of the damage

TIL all three brewlings can fight through song.
What's the rationale for that? It's only the earth one that's actually magic immune, no?

Song doesn't affect Ancients, and Brewlings are classed as Ancients.
This also includes Warlock Golems, and Visage Familiars, among other things.

Trying to learn Nyx assassin offlane. I have improved leaps and bounds from my support Nyx days where I missed every single impale, but still have a problem: how to you know where to circumvent detection from enemies?
At the MMR (~4.5) I play you can get off one or two kills with your initial couple of vendettas, since most people don't buy detection pre-emptively. However they certainly do catch on after a while and I find it hard to engage.

By the time you get to the point where you're teamfighting and fighting into sentries, you should have blink. Vendetta is used less as an initiator and more to burst a squishy support down or to escape. You can also vendetta and scout their perimeter, whilst being wary that they probably have detection down.

also, if you have good ward vision, watch their movement as you're roaming the map while invis.
for instance, if you have radiant jungle warded above the t2 and you're stealth in the river..watch what anyone farming the jungle or lane does. if they stop CS'ing to back when half the wave is still there, they probably have ward vision on the river AND a sentry down.

Thanks guys, I'll do that. I didn't actually know that nyx had to rush blink (I went for the classic noob pub dagon first build) but I just did it and I was much more useful when I could blink stun.
