Past the fact that silencer is actually banned from CM Mode, If situations are Ideal you would want to lane a hero that can easily remove his last words and preferably has some form of good escape mechanic. So which hero can remove last word? Weaver I guess. Also, we practice in pubs, where he's everywhere. still deals damage, you can die before using ur spell lmao but furion is the only who can do it safely. Not 100% sure, but because the silence/damage happens after the cast, spells that make you invulnerable avoid damage from Last Word (e.g. Faceless is invulnerable during Time Walk). I always thought damage was before cast but silence was after cast. Can anyone confirm?

damage is applied before the spell takes action. eg sd and od will still take damage but will dodge the silence (more or less)

You are silenced and damaged when you cast.

You are silenced even when you astral yourself.
Tested void and OD. Don't feel like fishing anymore.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but... oh well: How long should I play against BOTS in DotA2 before venturing into matchmaking? I've played probably 10 or so games with a few heros working on last hitting as well as watching a bunch of videos on how to lane and pull and solo-mid and all those nuanced things (for a beginner anyway). When should I take the plunge? Is there any sort of macro-benchmarks I should be hitting against the BOTS before I go into pub play? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
|
The only benchmarks is hero & item knowledge to be honest. If you're not too sure how majority of heroes work you can get caught off guard. You could just wing it no big deal, or try to keep playing until you stomp easy/mid bots in lane and so forth.
Try not to play overly aggressive early on and dive towers, reason being if you die way early you could start getting flamed by your teammates which is annoying. Then having to play a game with any teammate muted is a disadvantage. Just be nice and play your game, mute flamers, continue to learn and have fun. Good luck!

Hard Bots will play about 10x better than any newbie ladder games you get thrown into.
I'd say as long as you got a nice lockdown on how to last hit, just go into matchmaking. Don't try to pussyfoot around it and just take the plunge. You will suck a bit, but it's part of the process.

Puck is good against silencer

I play on a laptop that has 16-9 native but I also plug that laptop in to a monitor that's 16:10 so I have to change resolution every time I play (well I don't have to, but I like native resolution). Just wondering if there's a good way to do this, perhaps with autoexec file. Not the biggest deal, but the picking screen doesn't change resolutions until a client restart and sometimes my game crashes when I change resolution so ite's quite annoying. You could try to use the launch options and fiddle around with that. Rightclick in your steam library, Properties, "Set Launch Options".
As an example of what I'm using (I'm forcing the game to run in 16: 9 instead of my native 16:10 because 16: 9 displays more of the action on the screen) "-windowed -noborder -h 1440 -w 2560" ... just adjust the numbers for what you'd like to have and see how it goes.
Random tip since there might be lots of new people around since TI2: if you use "-international" in the launch options you get the sexy calming blue TI2 loading screen instead of the evil rage-inducing red one. =P

Oh, i did not know that, thanks r.Evo :D

I've only just recently started looking to get really better at DotA2 and was curious if there is an equivalent of Day9 for DotA2? Someone that does some strategic commentary and perhaps fpvods to help take gameplay to the next level. The only one I've found so far is Purgegamers youtube channel.

maybe TobiWan from joinDOTA could be sth like Day9 is for SC2.
but i would say its a matter of taste too

I don't think TobiWan will ever be the Day9 of Dota. He's a good caster, but Day9's show focuses on teaching people how to play SC2 better by analysing their play etc. Tobi doesn't do that.
|
what FB said. They are two totally different kinds of shows, Day[9] is also known for being an exceptional zerg who won his fame on the WCG circuit, I think he was A rank on ICCUP. While Tobi... is known for his gloves first furion.
It would be wonderful to see a strong player step up and make a show dedicated to helping improve players game.

Well........in the meantime, that's what this thread is for! Once I get a beast computer to be able to stream, I would love to do an educational show for newcomers. One of the many 2013 goals, soon to come. Currently coaching PainUser and co for free.

I will add that although my stream isn't an 'educational show for Dota', I started it with the intention to teach Dota. For example, if you were to come in and ask 'hey tell me about item choices', I would go into a long rant explaining it all very carefully, perhaps playing a hero of your choice to help illustrate what choices I make and why.

but i would say its a matter of taste too The only person that could fill that role would be someone like Merlini. AKA, retired ex-professional who still understands the game. Tobi knows absolutely nothing about DotA on a deeper level and he is really, really bad at the game. Just try to remember his tutorial on furion, his most played hero..

When AB is playing Lone Druid he has a circle around him showing the distance his bear can be from him and still attacking. How to do this?

console command: dota_range_display <range> ex. dota_range_display 1000
|
Is it true that using blink dagger farther than its actual range results in a blink that's shorter than its maximum range? Like it can go up to 1200 units, but if I click on a distance > 1200 units away, do I blink 1200 towards it or some smaller distance?
