In lane - Lich, to keep Omni from getting levels. Overall - Zeus, who kills Axe through Call's armor and everyone else through Guardian Angel. Honorable mention - Silencer, for the easy counter-initiate

Iunno As a support SD works wonders since u can purge off omni's bullshit, disrupt whoever gets called, and if u disrupt axe the illusions get spin procs.

I agree with snowman and axe doesnt like poisons/slows at early levels in my pubs.

also, insert the generic advice about making sure that you harass axe in the jungle if you can.
he loves to drop his tranquils to farm the jungle more efficiently, so if you can bug the shit outta him, chances are he will pick them up and cancel the extra hp regen. on top of that, you slow him down significantly if he doesn't feel safe or if you get a kill.
im guessing youre dealing with call + heal bombs..any form of counter initiators or defensive supports are great. I've been playing oracle vs axe bc false promise negates axe's bs.

What about AA? Chilling Touch in a dual or trilane (especially if you're all ranged) will eat through Axe's HP. Otherwise I like dodging the lane with someone who's good at being an annoying ranged offlane like Phoenix. That or using Treant's living armor to help win the other lanes while taking XP from axe's lane.
SD is also nice because banish on disruption gives you a chance to avoid the bomb part of the healbomb, just don't attack axe with the illusions and proc a bunch of spins.
Would visage work? How much would soul assumption charge from axe's shenanigans?

- Familiars die to spin, so getting level 6 doesn't help. You can't even use the familiars to stop axe's blink since he will just spin immediately and kill them for the bonus gold. - Axe could just max hunger instead and zone you off creeps, with no base MR, visage dies in 2.5 hungers. - Soul assumption is also not going to deal enough damage to eat through axe's hp plus omni's heal. - Repel removes grave chill debuff.
but
- Visage is ranged, which is great by default against that lane - he is capable of kiting both using grave chill - Soul assumption is almost guaranteed to get max charges, making it mana efficient.
My counter has been a terrorblade carry. Diffusal is a good pick up after yasha, and you can go even or win the early game since axe can't run up and call you when in metamorphosis. As long as you have a suitable counter initiate on your team to buy time during the gaurdian angel, you should be okay.

You can cut back before they hit your tower, akward but possible no matter what hero you got.

Axe crushes TB in any even lane (2v2/3v3) assuming there's no massive disparity in the usefulness of the supports.
When TB just got ported to DotA 2, Axe was getting picked almost every game in Chinese pubs to aggro tri against him.

In general this is true, but for level 1 SD vs axe you should also consider Soul Catcher. He's not all that tanky early on and the bonus damage from soul catcher is legit as hell against him. Granted you need to guarantee your level 2 if you go that route, but if it nets you even 1 extra kill it's worth it IMO.
