The one thing I don't like about og is how many of their wins have been through out drafts, rather than sheer out plays. Still fly has been drafting very very smart this tournament.

And does Fly's drafting/teamleadering match that of Puppeys?
Notail is one of the relatively weaker hybrid 1/2 players on a top team but his hero pool happens to be in meta and of course he's backed up by a great team.
Fly is actually a great fit as captain for OG based on their performance and the fact that its players respect him. He can't be compared to Puppey though. Just not the same level of accomplishments at all.
For this tournament, the answer is clearly yes. Although I would say that the individual skill level of all players on easily matches that of VG XD
In terms of past accomplishments, Puppey may outshine Fly, but the past is the past and today is what matters.
coming in as a dark horse, i really didn't expect them to get anywhere near top 3. Lower Bracket run straight to grand championship was insanely good and winning against EG AND Secret in non BO1!!!!
So happy for moon right now and the rest of OG, the supports were spectacular
OG put on one hell of a show at this Major, but I'll just put this down here so that people can find a reasonable explanation if the team suddenly stops performing after this event.
1. Their mid is perfectly situated in the meta. Miracle now is kind of how Shiki was in TI5. If Alchemist gets nerfed, for example, we could see him fall off massively - or not. It's hard to say, because we've only seen him in a patch where his heroes are really good. For an even stronger example, see AdmiralBulldog, His NP all but won TI3, and once it was nerfed he never really recovered.
2. They're a very recent team whose players have mostly fallen under the radar for the past few years. It's been a while since any of them were on a T1.5 team, with some of them never achieving even that. I think it's fair to say that a huge amount of EG and Secret's preparation for the finals was with one another in mind, and so OG escaped that kind of scrutiny.
3. DOTA2 is a massively variant game. Teams can be godlike one day and shit the next for no reason that can be discerned from the outside. It's possible, and given their group stage performance even likely, that OG were just playing at their absolute peak for the past few days. That's something that's hard to maintain or replicate.
I don't think any of that negates their performance or means that they're a "gimmick" team with no real skill. I think the exact opposite: namely, that they have a hell of a lot of potential and that I'm excited to see where they go from here. But if they do drop off, and I see that as a strong possibility given the nature of the game, I don't want that to be seen as just the players "throwing" or that they've "fallen off" or that they're "slackers" or anything stupid like that. There are a lot of reasons for such a situation that don't shine a poor light on any of the players. So, I would say at this point: temper expectations, but not hope. I'm looking forward to something cool and new.

i have full confidence in miracle adapting to other heroes. i've watched a lot of his fp replays both in pro games and pub games, haven't gotten a vibe from any other western mid since sumail. it wasnt only his alch that was impressive, but hes also very good on invoker, slark, ta, am, sf, huskar, the standard push heroes viper/razor, list goes on and on. the only hero i thought hes mediocre on is strangely enough, windranger.

Yeah, he does seem like an excellent player. I personally see him continuing to be strong, especially seeing as he can so competently play hard 1 or a pretty sacrificial 2 without seeming ever to be out of his comfort zone. It's always possible that this was just his patch, though, which is why I pointed it out. I just really don't want anyone to shit on Miracle if his results dip after a patch, just as people have turned on basically every talented player ever.
How can this be "Miracles patch" when he has such a ridiculously large hero pool (hi mid Rubick) and effortlessly switches styles? They had an incredible performance against incredible odds and beyond anyones expectations- and at best now those expectations rise, but is anyone "disappointed" by Team Secret or EG even though everyone counted them as the favorites? All this shows is that the top teams are really close together and OG is one of them. No need to preventively naysay.

Well, you have Dendi as the perfect example of that, his hero pool is not small at all (hi mid Rubick) and you can see him over the past year how hard it was on him, he actually never recovered, but again, Miracle may adapt when Dendi couldn't.

Dendi is just past his peak. He went to three TI finals.

I don't think anyone ever talked about a time of Dota being "Dendis patch" so I don't get your point.
