I used to have a thread for my stream here, but it's a little bit outdated and rather than update it again, I thought I'd just make a new thread.
My name is Kurtis Ling and I played the four role for team EG. I'm 22 years old and I like Visage. I very recently started to go over some public replays ala my vlog here.
Replays (limited to above 4k) should be submitted to my email at c9aui2000replays@gmail.com with subject line: username // mmr // game ID and attached with a ss of mmr, link to dota buff and the replay of course!
I will try to answer questions in this thread to a reasonable degree.
Oh sick, I love Visage. Will be sure to check out them vlogs! Thanks much in advance Aui, not a lot of people besides Purge are doing stuff like this and I've been longing for it.
Aui, I love your visage but I never got why you buy atos every game, it seems situationally good but especially when you have drow, wouldnt the aghs upgrade be more valuable for the damage and stuns if your past 11?
How does it feel to have your former teammate in DOTA 2 Tidesoftime on your same team now (Cloud 9 that is). Also will you be playing SC2 LotV when it comes out?

oh wow I somehow missed that Tides and aui2k are on the same team again and they're two of my favorite players lol
Big fan of your team since early Kaipi days before you joined. + Show Spoiler +
I was sad when they didnt get a qualifier invite for TI3, because they would have fucking rekt it with RTZ + sing.
Being a C9 fan is simultaneously soul crushing and exhilarating. You win excellent games vs top teams and then suddenly fall apart in an embarassing fashion in crucial games. You almost never have close, well-fought losses.
a) Do you think this perception is true? Or is it just my memory being selective. b) If (a) is true, then what do you think is the reason for this? Is it a playstyle/drafting/in-game leadership issue?
Voted for C9 in summit redemption, hope you guys get to go to seattle .

Atos is probably the best snowball item in the game. Slows are usually OP compared to stuns if the opponents have to run from you.
I get atos when I'm snowballing (i.e. today vs BUHLO I should have gotten atos first 100%), when I won't hit 11 before aghs, or when we have an excess of damage and no way to actually get to hit them. There are more specific scenarios like them having a hero that atos rekts but those are the main ones.

It's cool I've seen tides a couple times at china and DH and it's always a pleasure.
I will be playing the campaign but I greatly dislike how blizzard has handled sc2. Doubt I'd play any multiplayer.

I don't particularly enjoy anime but I'm a fan of manga. I really enjoyed es21 and fma when I read them. Right now snk and tower of god are pretty good i think.

It's definitely a true perception but only to a certain extent. I think we're a relatively impatient perfectionist team. If we don't see a way of winning other than the enemy team messing up (which we don't like to rely on, but we probably should more) then we will make an incredibly risky play. It is very hard to be consistent online because I think we have the worst online settings of any top team. I do think we've had well fought losses (game 1 vs DK RTZ auto atk cogs into force staff wrong way +lamn dunks is the most blatant example, but I'm sure there are more), but I think we're usually very good at playing close games and thus a lot of the close games result in our win.

Just stumbled on his youtube last night, also watched his 2cents video today. Fucking great stuff! Really enjoying the videos, its really motivating me to play better, thanks Aui!
Hopefully the video will change more minds like yours. I always try to be nice in-games, ofc you'll have a bad day sooner or later, and it's hard sometimes. But most time talking to your team during the "drafting" (in all pick) helps. Even if you lose people tend to keep a cool head if you have a bit of a conversation during the draft, just remember to actually listen to your team.
Hey AUI thanks for posting here, I think its really great you do. Seeing you at dreamhack makes me wish I was there again. I was there at summer, and you were cool to talk to. Thanks.
Quick question that I was thinking yesterday. As a team who comes across EG on a very regular basis and often gets beaten by them in big matches how do you attempt to change that trend as a team? It seems like the turnaround time between tournaments is so short that you can't get time to really analyse the games, come up with and practice ideas to play versus the strategies they play?

Bigger question is who's best at Smash on C9? :o
i think aui is better, i watched them both play a while ago on stream while dota was down. aui was winning in diamond, ee lost to gold league 9 pool xD
Aui was grandmaster and competed in Collegiate StarLeague events for his university way back in early-ish WoL. I'd assume he's gonna be better than EE unless EE has some serious SC2 history that I haven't heard about.
Aui's aka was ValiditySAGA, he was a pretty decent Protoss(?) in NA. I don't remember his team much other than the fact that they ran a nice online tournament once with all the big name players plus SAGA players.
Edit: Found it! Aui beat TLO and lost to MVP. So yeah, I'd say he's better than Envy. Probably the best ex-SC2 player in Dota unless I'm missing someone obvious (whatever happened to Babyknight?)

babyknight plays but he's kinda been shunned from the community after all the shit he said when he left lol
I love you Aui but you have such a weird setup in that interview. Your forehead is what, 4 inches above your monitor, you use one of the smallest mouse pads I've ever seen from a pro, your monitor is slanted relative to you, you have what I'm guessing is a router that looks very easy to hit if you extend too far to the right, and you seem very far from your keyboard. I'm guessing you have your keyboard past your mousepad so you don't hit it? But even then with that router you only have a few inches to work with before you run out of pad on the left. I paused at 1:45 in the interview to get that.
Did the interviewer ask you to move things around?
The "router" is his laptop. That may or may not be what his monitor is plugged into iunno but its clearly an alienware laptop lol.
If you look at the preview or w/e of the video in this thread you can see aui's setup at the far end looks awfully similar to his home setup in terms of positioning so I'd assume that's just how he's comfortable playing.

No that's my normal set up. I think around 1 inch moves my mouse across my screen so I don't need a big mousepad

Can you please explain how do u approach a draft in the current meta, as there seems to be no real hot picks or kinda stuff as there are just way too many heroes which are viable in many situations contrary to 6.82 patch where there were always a few good heroes around which drafts were built or at least that's my perception would love to have some guide lines from you. It would be even better if you could do a thought process video if it isn't too much to ask :D

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I've read some articles that state that its not good to use higher sensitivities since they force you to use your wrist for finer control of cursor positioning, increasing chances for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (RSI). Its recommended to use lower sensitivities so that you make use of your elbow (instead of wrist) to control the cursor.
When you want to walk instead of TP after a death? Do you only TP when there are creeps that you can kill close to a tower (to make up for the tp cost)? Always walk if you don't have a T1? I'm basically asking because I feel like I waste a lot of (sometimes all when support) money on TPs during a game (especially when it's not going well).

I don't have a good grasp on 6.83 because we've been taking a break over the christmas holidays and haven't scrimmed that much. However, you can't really go wrong with making sure you have a balanced lineup of pressure, teamfight, earlygame and pickoff. I really like to have a little bit of push too. Just don't over commit to one of those four. Dota heroes are all op enough that if you cover those four things you should have a fighting chance every game.

Yea i'm fucked. I think i'm already starting to develop RSI. I started doing some exercises for it

Tp should usually only be used if you're about to lose gold/exp or if you need the wave to be pushed out really fast. Never TP when you have an ally already in lane unless it's laning phase/you're setting something up (gank/coutnergank/rune check/stack etc)

Hey Aui, I've grown to be a real fan of you as a person recently.
You've always seemed like the quiet one to me, not exactly sure what made you come out and share your thoughts so much, and whatnot. But I just wanted to say, I love how you try to be as genuine as possible, and truly try and help people, not just in the game, but life in general.
Individuals like you are really important in the scene. You're an idol for young kids, and they'll listen to what you say, so I'm glad you try to promote a good lifestyle, and having a healthy emotional mindset and make our community a better place. Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate it, hope you keep it up with videos like these, and keep up the good Dota results as well. Hope to meet you at a Dota LAN one day, cheers!

Talked with Charlie and Fear about his RSI, not sure how exactly he changed his practice setup. Had tennis elbow years ago and hasn't come back since. I play on 1600dpi and don't move my arm much at all its 95% wrist movements. Noticed Fear's posture at a lan which was horrific, said he's become more aware of it since. But, I'll tell you what I told them. Get a desk that supports your whole arm. Have an L shaped desk where I sit in the center, one arm on each leg of the L. Elbows down fully supported and level at all times so theres no strain on anything. Could probably modify your desk in some way to support your mouse hand for sure if you don't want to buy a whole new desk (of if it would even fit, mine is pretty big). Could check with Fear and see what he ended up doing in that department. Hope it gets better, not sure what you have but full blown tennis elbow hurts like shit, glad it hasn't returned for me.
I'm curious why don't you stack with other C9 members when pubbing/streaming ? even with just one or two. Also why don't other C9 members do that as well ?

EE's said that he doesn't like stacking because it makes games too easy, don't know about Pie/Bone/Fata. Could just be a time zone issue, since they're on the other side of the planet.

Fata stacks with EU pro's a couple of times(his stack and sing stack faces occasionally which is weird). Idk about bone and Pie. Pretty sure i've seen aui stacking with other pros.

Aui said on stream that he needed to take a selfie for Charlie, friend asked him if it was for "That Asian tournament." They then both acted like it was some secret they let out.
Arteezy previously said him and Zai weren't going to China with EG, so EG.Aui_2000 confirmed?
Really at a loss as to why Aui thought it was a good idea to leave C9. Just such a weird move. Doesn't make alot of sense :/ I thought him and EE where pretty good buddies because of EEs try hard attitude. I guess not.
no he's "officially" on C9. Because they still own his contract Once the contracts change and an official announcement is made, then he'll be on EG. It's well known that he's functionally a member of EG. But officially and by the terms of his contract he's on C9 until an official announcement comes through.
Could be he's filling in his required streaming hours (if he has any), or EG and C9 are playing footsies when it comes to transfer costs and we're just waiting for the contract to actually expire.
I know Aui sometimes answers questions in this thread, so hopefully he can get mine.
How important do dota2 pros consider diet / emotional intelligence / physical health while playing? In all traditional sports any player who ignored any of these would falter quickly, but what about in dota2 / esports in general? Do you think that its worth investing into these areas if you play professionally?
Started watching his replay review series and it's quite good, picking up some new things. I do feel like each video could be about 5 times shorter and get the message through though.
Playing it at TI is the best way to get it changed (nerfed or taken out of CM). It shows the casual Valve employees who thought it was "fun" what it really is.

Seems like a pretty simple picture now. Aui talks about how he wasn't the calmest person on the team, that there might have been some small communication issues, and that Arteezy is a better fit socially than he is on EG. Echoes a lot of what PPD said, albeit in a different tone. Not sure there is much left to really talk about.
Don't think he got team right now. Recently he was on DC but they just disbanned, but has been on some other teams this year, planet something i forgot and Iceberg i think.
