Then in game 3 they go for the safety pick and it just doesn't work out. Oh well! ppd will always deny up a storm about some of his drafting stuff, but he always will establish some odd lineup choices early in a tournament with the very explicit intent of not letting you know what he's doing with it. He loves to abuse role versatility, as even 15 seconds of hesitation/confusion in the other drafter can outright win EG drafts. In the case against ex-VP, EG was still clearly playing to win, but it was the best opportunity to roll out a very different approach to the Laning -> Mid-game transition. VP was going to be hungry for the win, so unlike in a scrim, the team isn't going to treat the situation like EG was just BS'ing. And, well, it worked. The ex-VP played well and EG got to workout some theory-crafting they had clearly spent a lot of time working on. With a little different approach to the rest of the cores, that Oracle draft will work. Game 3 was just a case of the Alchemist-effect and EG not quite pushing hard enough. But Alch + SD is just damn hard to break high ground against, so I think that was more on simply a missed Ban in the 5th phase. Though Universe's Legion build was a little too "by the book" there, as I think that Blademail might have cost them the game. But that's a mistake I doubt they'll make again. But establishing the Void + AA combo is something ppd is going to abuse in the group stage. While using those as an opening is an old MVP.P trick (and not that great), depending on how the Meta shifts, it could be very powerful. Just leaving the Sumail + ppd slot as unknown, going into a 5th pick, completely opens up EG's drafting. Expect him to abuse that to the furtherest extent possible.

I don't think the oracle mid was a "random shit they experimented", I think they got outdrafted and tried a hail-Mary to counter Ember which didn't work. I have faith in the team, hopefully they will do great.

Yeah, I think SL was important just to get the reminder of very common cheeses now adays, Alch and Husk are two very viable starts in this patch. I also have to believe they were drafting to not show certain things, and will be better today.

EDIT2: Double Huskar as well ppd is going to force people to ban Wisp. And then Huskar. At TI5, they established both Naga & Techies for a reason. And it paid off. Though Huskar is clearly a brutally hard hero to deal with right now. I missed game 1, however. Did EG run out of DPS? (When ppd always favors semi-carries a little much at times, but when the strategy works... it works.)

It's a great curveball. Heck, they'd done it with a seemingly 4 Protect 1 Draft. (Though it can also fail spectacularly.)

Edit: Fear 19/0/4 in game 2 against Na'Vi. EG would like to point out that Starladder didn't mean much. ![]() Edit 2: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/2547165450 While I know game 2 was a stomp, Zai did more hero damage than Ditya Ra did on Huskar, the top on Na'Vi. That's both amazing & sad.

Being in the upper bracket is the really important part. The Meta really actually gets going then. Those Bracket Stage adjustments are what let's a team make a run.
