Liquid has released a statement that this is a private matter for Miracle and they do not want to discuss it further right now.
The rumour that it is visa related appears to be false. |
Liquid to play with standin at the Major Update 16/1 15:15 CET: Team Liquid has provided us with a comment on the situation saying "Miracle has a private, personal matter to take care of. He is a very private person so we're not revealing what it is right now."
Reports have come in that Team Liquid will have to play The Chongqing Major without their starplayer Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi. Information is scarce at the moment but this seems to be a last minute change as no information regarding this has been released by StarLadder, Valve, or Team Liquid themselves before today. At this point in time the closest to a full confirmation we have comes from Chinese carry player Chu "shadow" Zeyu, most known for winning TI6 with Wings Gaming, who edited his Doyu stream title to "I'll be back after playing for Liquid in the Major". Russian caster V1lat also tweeted out that Miracle- did not arrive in China with his team.
+ Show Spoiler [Old information] +Some Redditor has speculated that Miracle's visa was retracted after some recent friction between the Polish and Chinese governments. While Miracle does hold a Polish passport, as his mother is Polish, the rumor does not hold up to scrutiny as Team Secret, through their manager CyborgMatt, has confirmed that their Polish player, Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, made it to China without any issues.
No matter what the reason is for Miracle's absence from the tournament, Liquid will have a harder time than expected. While Shadow is a quality player with a TI win under his belt, Miracle is one of the biggest stars on the Dota scene and a vital part of every Liquid win.
|
Well, that changes the tournament. Hope everything is okay.
|
Noooo really thought Liquid had good chances to win this, they dominated Megafon Winter Clash, wich even though it wasn't that competitive of a tournament it still had a lot of good teams.
|
|
In my opinion this is bigger then the KuKu drama. KuKu and TNC made huge mistakes that justified a punishment. Liquid did nothing wrong. Miracle- did nothing wrong and he is still banned from the event the same way.
Is Valve really willing to risk to have a TI winner with a huge Asterísk because some of the best western players get "randomly" banned?

Edit: I just realized you commented here without even reading the post. I purposely included a section about why it's highly unlikely that the rumor on Reddit is true. Did you read that part?

I am confused, you created a topic with the title "Miracle- to miss the Chongqing Major" and now you are saying it might not be true?
I usually assume that threads that are on the Community News section of the frontpage of Liquiddota are confirmed, especially if its a topic about a Liquid player/team.
I would be very happy to be wrong though.

Where in the text do you see ANYTHING saying he's banned from the event? Where? Let me shock you: there might be multiple reasons why someone can't attend an event. *gasp*
|
|
could be an illness or many more things, lets hope he is ok and will participate in other tournaments

He said that the connection between "major in China" and "Miracle missing" is pure speculation. You were talking about miracle getting randomly banned, which is just entirely unfounded.

china holding Canadian diplomat because Canada arrested a Huawei executive
Poland arrested a Huawei director and one of its own former cybersecurity experts and charged them with spying for China. That comes amid a U.S. campaign to exert pressure on its allies not to use Huawei, the world’s biggest maker of telecommunications network equipment, over data security concerns.
Poland’s move has raised concerns over the safety of its nationals in China.

My hype for the tournament completely died with this. Especially after TL dominating the last couple of games they played.
I dislike this pro season a lot as a viewer. There is such a big down time between the majors especially with minors being one week before majors.

We have literal confirmation, from Team Liquid, that this is a personal matter. Still, you keep pushing this bullshit idea that it's visa related when it's not.

In the post on reddit which firstly made the claim, people showed into the chinese source which was provided and didnt find even a topic about Miracle- being banned by China. In fact they did laugh about reddit claiming the chinese source would be a big news site for esports.
So stop false accuses with no evidence. I know some people like to cultivate their hate towards China (especially on reddit) but this wont help.

i agree, having such a long break between worthwhile events is bad, i think it really would make the casual fans lose whatever interest they had after TI and move on to something else. its a lot like tennis, where the 4 majors gets like 99% of the attention and no one cares about anything else in between.
im sure some players are happy with this, but i would think it does get kinda stale just scrimming for 2+ months.

Doing online events and scrimming should probably be preferable in most cases. Travelling for business isn't fun for most people I've talked to. Many players also mentioned too much travelling as reasons they did poorly.

Well, actually Burning said liquid had contacted him before shadow, but he is too close to team Aster so he rejected the invitation. To be honest, faith_bian is the best English user among Chinese Dota player right now. I think it would be just like cty playing for secret.

This is something of a small reunion. Three members of the legendary Wings squad at a Valve event again. I know bLink is long retired, but it'd be fun photo, if all five were to be in attendance.

Any speculation on the real reason? Must be some kind of family emergency I guess.
In any case it sucks for liquid, they missed the first major and now are running into CQ with a standin so they're gonna be heavily gimped on DPC points.
That being said though as long as their full roster holds steady I still don't think it'll be a problem for them to snag a TI invite given the teams featured in the top DPC atm
And not like they can't snag at least a few points here even if they are missing their 1, but in terms of podium finishes there's no way it will happen. MC carried NiP to 4th at KL after all ;P

I dont think it will be an issue. There are still 3 majors left after this and by the looks of it one win or a couple of top 3 finishes gets you into top 12. And even if that fails somehow i guess there will be 2 qualifier spots for EU.

Curious to see how shadow does. Dota doesn’t feel like a game where a skilled player can help a team win if the communication isn’t good

We'd like to announce that Valve has approved our emergency stand-in, Chu "shadow" Zeyu. We are still working with Valve to figure out the DPC points situation, and we will let you know as soon as we find out #LetsGoLiquid

That you dont need to bring reddit to this forum.
And if you believe it or not ... someone could have time to play pub games, but not to play a tournament which take 2-3 weeks, minimum. You know, when my Grandma died over a year ago, I still found time to relax in front of the computer, but didnt have the time to work all day long, so I needed some days off. Just as personal example.

Well that possible issue got solved real quick... Now bring KKy back to POS1 and give the man his Ursa.
That or someone phone BurNing.

Btw, I want to say how cool it is from Liquid to pick Shadow as a standin. Wings were unfairly treated (I think) so it's nice to see Shadow again.

TL's made pretty clear that they'll not spread information about why he didn't play.
It'd still be nice to get any info on whether or not he will be playing in the next major quals with the rest of the team.
