In response, he told them I don't have a life. I mean he's not wrong, but I wish he had a more gentle way of saying it.

Their supervisor at the university is of course responsible for them having a thesis that can pass or not but want to enable them as much as possible without removing the learning.

Being available, helping them limit scope, connecting them to other people at the company and suggesting ways to move forward is what I've come up with thus far. Their supervisor at the university is of course responsible for them having a thesis that can pass or not but want to enable them as much as possible without removing the learning. I talk to people in industry from time to time, and it may be possible you'll have to tell the person the physical restrictions of what you can/can't make. For example, I make printed circuitboards and someone in a company would tell me the resolution of the tools they have, and what possibilities exist. And if it's commercially viable (costs too much/too little profit/etc) I'm guessing you're in charge of helping them with implementation or fabrication right? Because the theory/idea/design parts of it are solely the responsibility of their academic supervisor. At least that's how it works in my field. As far as what I like from people in the field, it's probably great to communicate clearly what you CAN make and what alternatives exist. It's usually great to have it outlined right away, so they can be used in design parameters. I think what you've thought up is great, but it's a good assumption you'll be useful to grounding the student to the real world, because people can come up with a lot of impractical designs for a number of reasons. I think universally, letting the student know the direction of the industry's also helpful since their academic supervisor may be pretty far removed from the actual field.

At one point the thesis might not be finished, but it's ready to be handed in.

I work in logistics, so it is more of a data gathering, modelling and improvement suggestion kind of project than making something physical. Though the general theme you suggested of showing what already exists in the area and keeping them grounded in what is possible still hold true. The students studied something like supply chain management as master subject. Can't recall the exact phrase without the text in front of me. ![]() On February 16 2018 06:17 Artisreal wrote: Tell them that rewriting is easier than to craft the perfect sentence right from the start. I might get questions on that part as well I assume.

Regarding data the important part is to gather as much useful data with as few a tries possible. Your student won't get everything needed on the first try and probably not with the fifth email exchange. Paramount is mutual interest in the goal of why you guys do the data gathering. So he (I assume) won't be afraid to ask if he inevitably forgets something. Defining and reshaping the goal together, or at least agreement during the decision making process is nice for you so you'll get something out of the project even if goals are shifted. Ooh of course, data quality defines model effectiveness.

I do not understand your argument that it is an awkward hold-over from bygone times. Because its bad game design. It is money sink that forces one player to sack gold to get a must have team item. There is no decision making in the average game of dota, it just one person buys it, normally the person who is most worried no one else will. There is no management except at the highest levels and it minimal impact on the outcome of any given match.

I don't think that's 100% a reason to give it away for free, but I can see the argument. The economic scarcity thing would make sense if it hadn't just been reduced to 50 gold lol. You can start with a branch, a null talisman, and a courier right now. Also : twitch apparently has more average monthly viewers than CNN now. Also also : I hit ancient[0], shortly after going back to playing exclusively support (and if that's taken, offlane), after swimming around like 3.6k->3.8k for a while trying to play core.
