Let's be real though, are those invokers better or worse than players of that level trying to play invoker like miracle anyways?

Economy management is an aspect of the game of dota two, and was an aspect of the game of dota. I do not understand your argument that it is an awkward hold-over from bygone times.
Because its bad game design. It is money sink that forces one player to sack gold to get a must have team item. There is no decision making in the average game of dota, it just one person buys it, normally the person who is most worried no one else will. There is no management except at the highest levels and it minimal impact on the outcome of any given match.
I mean there's consistent management in that its the position 4/5s divvying up 400ish gold worth of support shit that is necessary for the team. Virtually every game I play and have played in the last month had some combination of courier + two obs + possibly 1 sent + two pooled tangos for the midlane. Sure, it can feel like "not a decision" because its happening every game, but it entirely is a decision. Your starting item build as a position 4/5 involves a balance of getting enough regen while getting these highly beneficial support items and sneaking in as much stats or utility as you can otherwise.
Now it's just a different decision because the courier is basically free. That's not a bad thing and I don't object to the change, but calling it a silly hold-over or bad game design just strikes me as stupid garbo.

My argument that is bad game design has to do with the reasons why people buy it in the average game, fear no one else will buy it. The decision isn’t based on resource management, but a desire to have a functional game. I would not advocate that wards should be free, in contrast.
Okay boys I have another Steam account I share with a friend, and that account has PUBG. I think I'll download it and give it a spin. Watching Comeh stream it is fine and good, but if I can play a game with no cost, I may as well try it out.
edit: the reason I didn't try it out was because I wasn't sure if it would affect his stats, but I don't think he'd care.

This isn't family sharing tho this is literally multiple people logging on to the same steam account at different times. Unless i'm vastly misled.
Also technically pubg has some amount of ranking, but the matchmaker's search range is like +/- 2K dota mmr so in practice you play against pretty much every skill level anyway. Mostly just new accounts are biased to play with other new/bad accounts for a while.
you can view a pretty good breakdown of your accounts stats including rating at pubg.op.gg, but it keys off of in-game-name rather than steam account name etc.

Do you even have MMR in that game?
No idea if that game has any matchmaking at all. Games like PUBG look like a huge clusterfuck to me so I doubt they need any matchmaking algorithm tbh. But I don't know for certain.
I am blasting this on repeat all day and it's been really productive for my thesis. Send help.

It's not family sharing, I have the account credentials. I'll be logging into the account, downloading the game, and testing it while he's offline or doing something else.

Gotcha. Not what I experience in my games, hence not being able to relate.
Apparently it's a long weekend coming up. Labmate was kind enough to tell me. Wonder how I'll pass the time. Probably gonna chill on Saturday, go to campus to do readings on Sunday, and chill at home on Monday.

Family Day is such a forgettable holiday I lost track it was even happening.
