yes they do.
playing support in MM is an INFURIATING experience.
I think in higher level games, supports actually do more than carries to win the game because it's kind of a given that the carry players are going to be good. the difference in skill level between supports is often much greater than the difference in skill between the carry players.
in a pub, youre just goint to babysit someone who gets <3 cs/min

To be fair, one of shadow fiend's strengths is to be able to farm ridiculously well, no matter how the game goes. I've had hon (I know, dota thread, but it applies) games where I'm playing soulstealer (shadow fiend port) mid vs chipper (anyone who plays soulstealer a decent bit knows what a fucking nightmare this is, if you end the laning phase 0-3 you're doing well) and end up going like 0-11, but still ending up carrying the shit out of that game, ending at well over 400 gpm. Point being, a comeback is almost always possible as shadow fiend, no matter what. Only if the Enemy team is stupid enough to allow you to sit and farm. If a SF gets shut down in the laneing phase by a hero with major burst (Tinker,Storm,NS etc...) They can pretty much follow him around the whole game and kill him. Any 2 heroes can. I can consider my self a pretty decent SF player if that means anything. i completely agree with this and i consider myself to be a pretty decent SF player too. its not the farming part thats hard, its finding the opportunities to farm because in essence the SF is supposed to create the openings for your team and set the pace of the game

Damn, that was amazing, been watching he's stream for a while, and he picks pudge now and than, but this game with proper support he trolled harder than in pubs .

To be fair though his opponents played really terribly against him <_< Not like he didn't do well but yeah he probably wouldn't repeat that performance against some other top teams.
I liked that self-deny though, nice though.

All EG's ban are heroes with teamfight capability but they didnt ban invoker. oO

You seem to be doing remarkably well for someone who claims they suck Phil.
Haha i still do suck. I guess its just relative, and I feel like im getting a bit better. I can at least take advantage of having any competent teammates(i.e. I can actually farm really well if we have a half decent support laning with me). I've actually become like fairly obsessed with this game lol, I don't know how I haven't been playing Dota for years, its like the perfect game to me. I haven't even played a single other game( other than N64) since I got Dota2 beta key.

Gotta ban Chen vs Navi, not Pudge. Becuase they will almost never go Pudge without Chen, but if they get Chen it is guaranteed their 3rd pick will be Pudge and not risk having Pudge banned in 2nd ban phase. That combo is ridiculous.

Pudge + dazzle is pretty broken as well.
e: but Chen should be banned anyway, regardless of pudge being in the pool.
ee: if chen ports pudge back while pudge has someone hooked, does the hero port with him?

Played a team liquid inhouse last night vs coL.Catz. Obviously he would be better than all of us with only a week bootcamping with professional dota 2 players but since he didnt play dota he was getting one hit killed by me and another player just because he didn't know the small details.
So often I've been in games and blamed for lost because we didn't win tri-lane when the only description given to us to win a tri-lane is "win." A simple "make sure you take x skill first and spam this when they are doing that." would have paid dividends.

Curious why you think Catz would be amazing at DotA because he's really good at starcraft. The emphasis of skill in the two games is entirely different.
Tri-laning is one of the more complex parts of the game, and understanding when and where to be in and out of the lane takes a LOT of experience. Explaining all of the intricacies (not that I know them) would take many pages of text, it's generally better to not tri-lane unless you are playing with an actual team or with people who can tell you what to do. You have to be able to visualize how the other team can pressure or kill people on your team, how to play safe from that, how to kill them if they get out of position, where "out of position" is, what the mid game is going to look like and what heroes need to soak xp and level up and which need to stay out of the lane, etc. Just because the other team runs a tri-lane does not mean you should tri-lane. They will most likely play it poorly and running a 2-2-1 will end up with you better off than trying to also tri-lane if you don't know what you're doing.

it's actually very easy to be decent at dota if you're good at starcraft getting amazing takes a bit more practice but a lot of the skills are readily transferable

Micro can but I guess you can relate macro when farming. Other then that the games are completely different.

Hmmm when trying to open up the game I got a message saying something about Steam couldn't open DotA2 through the steam cloud or some shit, and I just clicked play game anyway. The game just opened up completely blank, like just the grey screen stuff.... is DotA down or did I do something wrong?
Ok well whatever it was, it fixed itself cuz it works now! Also why do I always get random Alchemist? Never won a game with him and hes my most randomed hero lol.

I think that if you are good at any game where skill legitimately matters you can be good at DotA
9/10ths of this is having the right mindset to constantly improve your play and you'll get there sooner than you might think

My graphics card is a mobility radeon 3470, quite old but should still be playable (i usually play all source 2007 games with no problems). What really confuses me is the lag issues. Whenever I manually make a private game using Shanghai server I get about ~150 ms ping, which is still pretty shitty considering I'm Beijing but still 100% playable. But whenever I try to join a MM game, with only China region selected as active, I end up on some random server with 700 ping and everyone speaking English. Is there any way to check what server the game decides to host on? And why am I getting redirected to SEA or US servers when only China is activated?

I agree, Chen should be banned, but ESPECIALLY against Navi with first pick you ban him, thats why they got rolled so f'ing hard.
And yes, if the hook is drawing in during the port, he gets pulled into the fountain and dies. Thats more a pubstomp thing/screwing around at the end of the game than a serious strat. But Dendi/Puppey have done it before in matches.

On February 04 2012 08:14 Dead9 wrote: it's actually very easy to be decent at dota if you're good at starcraft getting amazing takes a bit more practice but a lot of the skills are readily transferable Kind of disagree. The tech skill is very easy unless you play Chen or something and time stuns, though even that's not all that difficult. However, Dota's much more based around knowledge than technical skill. Also lasthitting is a totally new thing that SC players won't have any inherent advantage at, and the kiting or whatever is much slower-paced.
I really don't even know which skills translate over... watching minimap and mouse and keyboard control and accuracy? I think it's mostly about being good at playing games or at learning games, not SC2 in specific.
Why did I typo shen as chen
