They only have themselves to blame for not hiring IceFrog already in 2007. By that time it was very obvious that DotA has grown huge. They could because every single image and model in warcraft 3 are created by Blizzard and thus the property of Blizzard. Dota exists almost entirely on models allready present in the game, property of Blizzard. If i make an awesome game using legos i can't just suddenly start selling legos as part of my game. It seems DotA 2 isn't using orc, elves, taurens etc. Those are part of Blizzard's world. There's no reason they can't make a flying redheaded sorceress or a blinking antimage with razor blades. If they don't call Tauren Chieftain Tauren Chieftain in Dota 2 then they have already gone around copyright.
Blizzard cannot sue Valve for nothing even if valve used elf/orc/tauren etc, Blizzard dont own the term/names. Blizzard can only do that if they used the exact same models, as in the codes and everything originally from Blizzard's WC3. And obviously Valve wanna have their own creation/images of this game too.
I never interested in blizzard's dota because they didnt hire icefrog such a fool.

GGing early is frowned up right? It was that way on Bnet, is this a problem in LoL and Hon? If so what is DotA 2 going to do, it's hard to play on once you know you lost

Can you guys stop talking about HoN? This is a fucking dota thread. I wish someone could slam a banhammer on you.
Back to dota talk:
My first impression of the screenshots was fucking lol graphics. But i guess im just afraid that my good old dota will not be played anymore. And when Puppey said in a interview that he liked dota 2 over dota and that MYM keep hyping dota2 i guess there will be no problem

TL is by far the best community I've come across that's a decent size, so maybe it can work here. I wouldn't hold my breath, however, something about the DotA genre turns people into rampaging mouth breathing rage machines.
It's all about being a team based game. Remember all those flame wars in starcraft team games? It's the old anonymity+audience=shitload of flame thingie. Put on top of that, the seemingly general belief that everyone thinks of himself as Mensa IQ quality and you get a typical modern gaming community. Don't fool yourselves. Here in TL, we are not better people, it's the solo format of sc plus the huge amount of effort put forth by the admins that make this place a gem.

Dota2 would certainly benefit from a decent community, I hope that these forums can shape up that way.
If there is one thing the genre suffers from it is the unbelievably feral and aggressive nature of the communications around the games, even in comparison with MMO/FPS environments.

Wasn't there an interview where a valve employee said that the payment model would reflect the consumer's behaviors. Raging crybabies paying more than a mannered guy, if you want to simplify it. I'm speculating that people who release good content like commentaries and replays with their notes would get many benefits from valve.

Trailer looks gay. Disappointing.

I speculate contributors' works will be spotlighted by Valve, so someone else does all the work and they don't have to. But I hope they'll try to be on good terms with the community.

I'm so excited for the release of the game. I have no idea how to play it though, just the basics of the game of course. Maybe I should read up on DotA tutorials about champions heroes, items, etc.

If its along that concept then it will probably follow the model of paying money to get rid of your bad rep? And having bad rep puts you into bad games with other asshats?
Anyone got any links for interviews of those pros who have played Dota 2? And can't wait for tomorrow :D:D:D:D. Dota 2 tourny and Gws2 PvP :D

Is there a schedule posted yet for the 'The invitational'?

They only said that they would like to do something like that. DOTA2 would be the ideal place to implement such a scheme, but don't get your hopes up too much
