Because I feel this is relevant, on last night's episode of Conan, he did a spoof of the console D3 with some voice-over dubbing and a multitude of somersaults.
While the late-night host appreciates the game's graphics and gameplay, he says, he felt the dialogue was out of place in such a dark and gritty game. The dubbed-in dialogue that Conan hears while playing gives a new perspective to the characters of the Barbarian and Demon Hunter.
It's quite understandable that some people just can't help themselves from joyfully somersaulting through the world.
Not sure if it was the funniest thing ever, but still good to see some mainstream publicity.
Enjoy.

why can they make somersaults in console and in pc cant? console OP

Yeah, I don't find it funny either. I would not be suprised if this is just marketing by blizzard, this reminds me of that stupid foursome commercial.

I guess the mild humor put the game in a mainstream light in good taste. Not bad in my opinion.

Dark and gritty game you say? I thought we were talking about d3, not d1 or 2. D3 is not dark and gritty.

how the fuck is it not dark and gritty? there are dead bitches impaled by spears littered all over the place and giant hell worms that puke satanic minions of death around every corner. What do you call that.
I remember when d2 came out everyone was acting like they sold out and made it look cartoony compared to how dark and gritty the first one was.
Cant wait till number 4 comes out and everyone can start bitching about how diablo 3 was way grittier and darker than diablo 4.

In fairness, both can be equally true. D2 can be considered much grittier and darker than D3 AND D3 may be much grittier and darker than D4.

d1 was really dark, gritty and suspenseful. d2 was dark and gritty as well, but less so than d1. and d3 is the same, but less so than d2. but still... for example take the halls of agony - if you dont consider that gory, dark and a "serious" setting, i dont know what.
the thing that ruined the ambiente in d3 is not the monsters, scenarios or maps, its the ridiculous, cartoonish dialogues. seriously, azmodan and diablo both seem like the villains from an afternoon cartoon for 5 year old kids.
dont really know what to make of conan's spoof. didnt make me laugh, but maybe thats difficult for someone who already played the game for hundreds of hours...

Dark and violent....diablo 3? lol.....
They did try to make it dark, but I think the art style used didnt really lend itself to it, somehow it always ends up looking cartoony. Plus, it lacked that gothic feel the other two games had.
But about the op, this looked more like a commercial than anything else.

heh D2 looked like a comic book version of D1, but only because D2 had a ton of upper world stuff and mobs looked a bit more colorful. D3 actually went a bit back into the darker scenes again. Still people saying stuff like any of the 3 games have no dark atmosphere are just repeating some wild assumptions people threw out there after they saw some shiny special effects. Guess it is personal opinion, for me D2 is the one that is the least dark, but thats mostly because they tried to mix it up from dark dungeons and shiny effects don't count for me as bright, when they disintegrate monsters. And of course D2 didn't had the possibilities graphic-wise that D3 had.
Also thanks for the link !

Not everyone, I assume there are many people like me who will not even bother with Diablo 4.

Apparently, dark to you people = literally lack of light. The majority of D1 was underground, no shit there is no light. But you can't create sequels just being underground all day.

Gritty =! Gore Gritty =! Dark
D3 is gory, but not gritty at all. Most things in the game looks polished and "sparkling". Since 3d took over I thought there would never be a gritty game again because most games are like this. I thought the artists simply didn't have the tools in the 3d modeling to make things gritty.
Then PoE came out and they actually, to a certian extent, managed to make a gritty 3d game. My best guess is that most artist, designers try to make the art as "pretty" as possible in fear of the management in game companies. Management wants a pretty, easy on the eye, good looking game and graphics. Gritty games are not pretty and easy on the eyes, but it makes for a much much better atmosphere for certain games, like Diablo and other gory games.
It took a small indie company like GGG to do this as it is actually one of their main goals with their PoE game.

Man I like Conan but that was not funny.... at all...
|
Well, since discussion is diverting a little bit I'll throw in my 2 cents. D3 definitely needs more Halls of Agony and Cathedral levels and less desert. Seriously, desert setting in Diablo game was the worst thing ever, and they made it even worse in D3. In D2 it had at least ancient tombs filled with undead, D3 only has stupid sewers filled with shit and moving shit. Tbh the only part of D3 that retains it's predecessors dark and eerie atmosphere is act 1, rest of them are quite shit. Hopefully act 5 will bring this game back to it's roots.
Regarding the video, I guess it would be equally funny with just audio and no D3 footage.

Guess you've never played Spec Ops: The Line.
PoE is great but it doesn't hold a candle to D3 in terms of aesthetics, the aesthetics themselves are really amazing, its the context within which they are presented which makes them not feel "dark and gritty" (fuck me I hate that phrase right now).
D3's problem is that it presents all this is in a stupid world where the 'big bad' constantly bombards you with idiotic phrases 'You'll never defeat me bwahahaha!'. Atmosphere is built by a collection of elements and gritty as I understand it in this context is a synonym for harsh, hopeless & brutal which I think the 'look' of the game conveys excellently. Nothing much else does though, the dialogue is terrible, the story is laughable for a kids TV show and the mechanics of the game present you as some kind of godly killing machine. The result is you don't feel like its harsh and 'gritty' because most of the elements don't support that take but this isn't the look.
Mechanics really are the most important part here, to convey something as gritty there needs to be a challenge to overcome, that feeling of hopelessness needs to be conveyed to player. D3 isn't about that, it's about smashing face, hell if you did some kind of fiction about a skeleton in a cave in the D3 universe that could be pretty gritty, going for a snack to come back and find all his friends and family smashed to pieces with all their hard earned possessions stolen from them by a spinning barbarian.
Otherwise its not really gritty, its just ugly. Either that or you just look at games in a very shallow way, which to be fair would put you on par with most people. Also your insinuation that artists in these companies live in fear of management is dumb as hell and insanely patronizing. These people understand their work a lot more than you.

I laughed at the tumbling. My humor standards are pretty low.

Believe it or not, watching actual violence is not that appealing. If designers don't make it cartoony or over the top gory, it'll unsettle 99% of players.

That... makes me feel bad. I just wanted to smash some bones and find some legendaries.
