Hello Team Liquid,
I just played a 5 person public game in Diablo 3.
Me and a friend were going to do a quick run before the servers shut down for the night and so we joined a public act 3 game. The game was full and about a minute in I disconnected for some reason. After I reconnected a 5th player appeared and we played most of the remainder of the act with 5.
The reason I post here is because until just now I though this was not possible. I have no idea if this was due to the upcoming server reset or because I disconnected and rejoined but perhaps it can be recreated. Or maybe it was just some random glitch.
Regardless I can say that it was a nice surprise and a lot more fun (maybe just because it spiced things up a little). I honestly wish blizzard adds this.
later,

p.s. I have video proof but I wont post links so as not to be accused of spamming. however if you need proof let me know.

Happened to me as well. What I'd like to know is if monster stats scale with the 5th person

lol now that is really odd!
Would be nice anyways, all class possible in a game XD

...
Well now we know the framework is easily in place, so why the hell is this not possible by default? :/

They're saving it for the expansion.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. There's a good chance that all that's stopping it from doing so is a check for how many players are in the game currently. It's not like MP10 gets significantly easier when you add a 5th person.

Most likely a soft cap to not make the game lag on minimum spec computers in multiplayer. I hope they up the cap to 8 players like in the old d2 though. Perhaps let the creator of the game set the cap so a user with weak computer still can get multiplayer games going without lagging.

This is the only correct answer. What better way to market the expansion than saying, "Hey, now you can actually have a party with one of each class!"?

It will be a "premium" service like what they wanted cross-realm grouping in WoW! hehe.

i wish they'd go like 8 people :[

I think even 5 is a bit much.
Too much fucking shit on the screen.
8 was horrible when people started getting gear like hellfire torches that covered half the screen in fire shit.
