In hell with 300 resist, i can walk into arcane and plague as if it's my own backyard. Desc and fire chain still hurts like hell. yeah the only way i deal with firechain which is the most annoying is i need to find a good corner or wall so i don't get destroyed but often they have another silly ability to go with it like plauge or vortex and i just cry lol I prefer to kite to a small choke (doorway or corridor). That way you can still back up into another doorway when there's plague. Playing monk makes me cry too. Marine stutter micro with a zergling? fml
You blind them and walk away. Or summon mystic ally and walk away. Mystic ally is probably the best monk skill right now for actually clearing through inferno.

my advice is find a decent barb, and run with him lol warcry (armor and res buff) with your mantra (i use evasion + armor i just think its better) is the only way ive found to survive everything in act 2. and i mean everythihg, we can kill every mob, we can kill belial with relative ease (his 2 hand slam takes me to half hp, and when the poison pops if u get hit, you dont actually DIE in one hit which is nice) and im actually ENJOYING act 2. so far better drops in general, not by much though. with good gear with and a barb u'll have 11k armor (warcry, evasion armor + deadly reach 20% buff), ~750 resistances, and i have high 27k (this is incl breath of heaven) dps.
my build revolves around having as much attack speed as possible with trans passive and spirit dumping on mantra and sweeping winds (also with serenity and breath of heaven) to give me a constant healing flow. my attk speed is at 2.15 now.
i think this CAN BE DONE, more so than people think. I can deal with a lot of the start of act 3, some mobs hit a little too hard tho and 2-3 hit me. shit's still being figured out but im feeling pretty solid

Butcher fire is not downright lethal if I get dragged into it. Fire chain act2 is lethal. But Molten is downright awful and needs to be looked at.
Arcane orbs obviously just slice me in half. Plague is no big deal but I cant just stand in it either.

More armor wouldnt really help me. Since I would have to drop resistance for it anyway. Usually I run Mantra of Evasion, which is 20 percent more armor, less resistances, and yeah the dodge. On my tooltips my mitigation through armor is pretty close to my mitigation through resistances.
But the point is that even with 1k resistances my shit gets pushed in. What am I doing wrong lol? Rolling a demon hunter now basically. Until Inferno is altered my monk has about run its course. my monk has 7200 before deadly reach ;/ assuming that the EHP is linear (cba to work it out this is what ive heard about resistances) then saying you have 6k armor you just need to prop it up 20% at the cost of 165 resistance ;/ to get a higher EHP. -% dmg items are the way to go though tbh
You can't have everything. Boosting my armor like that would reduce my damage a lot or reduce my resistances. You will never sustain in Inferno. As I said 6k is fine, my mitigations are very close to being equal.

I have a question, for stats of course. What should be piority for a monk that is in A3 in hell, should i put vit over dmg?
|
If it's just you, you need to start favoring health armor and resistances starting in hell.
A good rule of thumb is to have the same all resistance mitigation as armor mitigation, because of how diminishing returns works.

Honestly thus far my Diablo 3 experience as a monk has been me rage quiting literally countless amounts of times after spending hours upon hours trying to progress in Act 2 Inferno, I think I've tried almost every build combination possible and my gear is no where near lacking as I've probably invested easily at least 6 million gold into it. Kiting mobs endlessly while waiting for tranquility to come back is just plain bad design, not to mention the enrage timer (Diablo 3 is WoW right?) makes things even more retarded then it already is.
I mean sure it's not completely impossible to progress but it's the most tedious painful drawn out process known to man, not to mention you have to skip almost every if not every champion you encounter. It really frustrates me to see my DH and Wizard friends just face rolling through in comparison to me, not to mention the people farming actual good items/gold in Act 3 and 4 due to their cheese builds prior to the nerf. All of this almost feels like a ploy to get people to sink tons of money into the RMAH as a dire last ditch attempt to be able to compete in Inferno, given Blizzards recent decline I wouldn't put it past them to do something like this.

Blizzard isn't selling items through the RMAH.

From my experiences in hell, I never thought of putting one far above the other. I tried to maintain a good balance between VIT and DEX, and I always kept my weapons up to date (i.e. enough DPS to kill things at a reasonable pace). However, as a rule of thumb, make sure you don't have more VIT than DEX. DEX is always more important because it doubles as offense and defense, and having a high dodge % going into inferno is going to be critical. Furthermore, if you're using Seize the Initiative, your DEX is going to be super important.
So yeah, don't let anything lag behind, keep your weapon damage up, health and resists/armor mitigation high, don't let your VIT exceed your DEX or you won't be able to kill anything reasonably.

Okay, fuck this game. I'm beyond fucking livid. So fucking stupid how much more gear Monks require to do inferno compared to DH and Wizard. So fucking retarded. I'm way more geared than anyone in my group of friends, and yet my friends' DH and Wizard are doing ACT III inferno already, yet I'm still fucking stuck farming ACT 1 butcher.
I wouldn't even be that pissed if monks require gear, but fucking AH is constantly fucking down, can't fucking buy any commodities to make my set items to sell. Can't even sell my huge stack of gem's either.
Blizzard you dropped the ball on this one. Pretty much screwed over their consumers.
Fuck this, making new alt. Pretty much want to delete my monk at this point.

playing d3 on inferno difficulty with my monk is one of the most rage-inducing things i experienced recently. i'm working on a2 right now and it's just sad. i'm so much better geared than anyone on my friendslist but wd/dh/wiz players are progressing through this game and their gold stacks are constantly growing while i'm spending my last gold on that upgrade from the ah, because i found only 3 item upgrades on the last ~hundred butcher runs. my friends keep telling me i should build EVEN more tank items so they can go full-dps, but this is just stupid. tanking in diablo is just a bad idea. it's an action-rpg. if i wanted to play "dont stand in the fire and face the mob for 40 mins pressing 4 defensive skills on cooldown" i would go play world of warcraft.
rerolling dh right now.

The worst fucking thing about "build more tank" is that the difference between it in ACT 3, is getting 4shotted instead of 3 shotted, especially considering Serenity cooldown is long as fuck as compared to duration. IE 4sec(with rune) via 20 sec cool down, effective only 1/5th of CD duration. As opposed to smokescreen, 1sec(without rune) 1.5(with rune) vs 2sec cd. Not even close in comparison. So silly.

DONT GIVE UP MONKS i can solo act 2 just fine, can kill most mobs (with exception to some really hard mobs), and i've been doing 5 stacks and belial runs for good loot. act 2 can be done, but im not sure about act 3 as of yet

And we have the worst attack scaling of any of them, Monks have like maybe 3 spells that scale up to 200%, DH/Wizard/WD have way more than that, and are far more spammable than Monk's high scaling abilities.. It's so stupidly absurd. You could tell the game was poorly designed in the first place, that when melee classes get hidden 30% dmg reduction, and still getting their faces smacked around.

Basically this, though I chose a wizard
I love my monk, but I just dont have the gear to really progress past act 2. The wizard of a friend of mine is 60 for ~1 day (rerolled from barb), has ~500k gold spent and is able to farm faster & more efficient than me. Another friend who is a WD from day 1 is happily farming act 3 / 4 inferno bosses (and I can hop in with MF gear and give him dmg buffs). So I think it's just better to farm with a fresh ranged and give the gear to the melee. I think melees have the potential to be better than ranged when geared extremely, but the process of gearing is just way way more difficult / time consuming.
@run.at.me: What build are you using for the Belial runs?
I think what holds me back is a good weapon (only 740 dps) but the good (speed & life on hit) stuff is just so fucking expensive

Hey guys just wondering about Hell diff...looking around at the Bnet forums tons of people say its pretty easy for Monks but I seem to have some trouble. White mobs and such of course are cake, but when I run into a Plague, Desecrator, Vortex or Frozen Molten Illusion mob I tend to take a long time and/or die at least once. Other mod combinations like Wall Teleport Reflects Dmg are pretty easy still tho, just takes some time holding down left click
I have about 19K HP, 2.1K DPS, 127 to all resists, 1.1K armor. Here's my skill build: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#adgjTh!ZdU!Zbabba
I was under the impression that Hell was still easy enough that I wouldn't have to go super tank mode so Im trying out stacking dodge. Am I not supposed to be having this much trouble in Hell diff with those elites considering my stats or are people talking shit and I should switch up my skills/gear to be more tanky?

I really hate how gimped monks and barbs feel in relationship to the ranged classes. Farmed for days, spent a few million on AH, and still come out barely able to clear act 2(like everything doable, it's just a lot of cooldown chaining and kiting til cd's come back up). Finally capable of belial though, just need to find a day where I don't derp and keep dying in stage 2 to poison meteors everywhere. And I would agree with the notion that we need 3-4x the gear to do act 2. My DH friend has worse items than me(comparing basically everything but weapons) and he's comfortably farming act 3, while outputting an estimated triple my dps.

anyone knows how the rotation works if you want to use fist of thunder and deadly reach, dodge and armor rune?? I have 2.0 attack per second.
40k hp and 500 all resist and 5.6k armor without buffs. still get demolished in act 3... so wanted to take FoT and Deadly reach and use them after eachter to keep up both buffs. i have 8.5k with the deadly reach buff which is kinda neat.
or does anyone has more/better idea's for survivability on act 3
Passive i have is transendence, seize and resolve...
Cheers
/edit
Maybe its an idea to take 20% armor buff glyph on evasion mantra. FoT + Deadly reach and sweeping strike and maybe drop blind or heal for lashing tail kick with the range increase.. ? Seems i can go up to somethink like 10.5k armor with enchantress

This may be a dumb question but when I one-hand plus shield i have 5500 dmg but when I duo-one hand I lose 200 damage, any reason? Shouldn't duo weapons provide more damage?
