You can't kill stuff before they kill you without a lot of tanking power. I'm at almost 20k dps, trying to sacrifice the least possible of it to become tankier. 37k hp, 250 all resist, 4k armor ( because i'm running 2H ) is still not enough to be able to not die before I kill stuff in an elite pack during my defensive cooldown. actually if those are your raw stats, if you had around 250 more additional resist you should be able to burst down elites comfortably. might just want to consider picking up a shield and getting one of those 1her high dps weapons on the AH.
Yeah, they're my raw stats. I know getting a shield and a good 1H would be better,, but I want to make 2H work. It's hard because shields usually have a lot of good stats with them, including resists. It's still doable without it imo. I'm just poor as hell right now, can't afford the best dex/vit/resist gear yet.
And fu the rng gear generation, can't drop anything good for me during all these butcher runs. I keep giving incredible barbarian or wd gear to friends tho. -__-

you need atleast 500 resistances for act 2, if you see my stats on page 18 (2nd last post) and think thats sufficient - you're wrong, myself and my brother(both monks) use evasion + armor buff and healing + resistance buff (giving 700 resistances and ~7k armor which becomes- 10k armor because of deadly reach armor buff) and there are mobs that we still cannot kill, those which do massive dps and are 'fast', we can't kite to allow for cooldowns to reset... i can *almost* solo all of act 2, with exception to some mobs that kill me so fast i can't hit long enough to regen spirit to spam spells to heal (trancend). n i got 2.15 attack speed, 27k dps (this is with breath of heaven buff) 586 resistances and 36k hp and 10k armor (evasion mantra armor bonus + deadly reach 50% armor bonus)

Does anyone know how life on hit works w. monk abilities? how about life steal vs life on hit with skills?

Sums up to where I'm at. Gonna have to start charging friends for all these free drops so I can eventually get to the AH level of gold upgrades to stop faceplanting elite mobs. I swear ...
Well, inferno tough as expected.

what are some good monk items to get assuming you have a lot of gold?
how's life on hit for monks?

very good if you have decent defensive stats as well.
btw I really got fond of this combination for non-boss encounters (at bosses i specifically adapt my build anyways)...
thunderclap+cyclone(dodge rune)+kick(vulture/armada):
with these three skills you can really choose where to fight with whom and even the very deadly anti melee stuff like molten etc is much more managable. you can pull and kick the monsters around and your allways attacking at the right place with thunderclap. also my gear and setup highly favors spirit regen (besides dex and res/armor ofc) so i never have to worry about not being able to use spells except iam doing some shitty mistakes.

I used this exact combo (vulture claw) up to inferno or thereabouts after which cyclone strike = suicide strike lol. And you really like the 16% dodge on fists lightning flash.

Why is noone in Hell/Inferno running with Exploding Palm? It scales really well with difficulty and does a ton of damage when you can chain 2+ together.

Seven Sided Strikes gives you 7 times 1/7th of your life on hit.On May 26 2012 23:50 Aetir wrote: Why is noone in Hell/Inferno running with Exploding Palm? Blinding Flash/Serenity/Mantra are must-haves, so that leaves you two skills to choose from out of: Dashing Strike, Sweeping Wind, Heal, 7SS.

I love using it (act 3 hell), but it uses up a valuable slot for the more defensive abilities that people prefer.

Well, yeah. That's pretty depressing, you need some kind of dream gear to do Act 2 without too much problem. And I keep getting shit gear during my Act 1 runs. I swear, I probably did 30 5 stacks Butcher runs and not a single rare i got was worth using.

wheres the best place to farm as solo monk? got bad gear except for the weapons, inferno act 1 atm, but cant really solo infern act 1 v.v
any advise?

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#WaXYgh!YXU!Zaccaa
my current monk build. stats are 38k hp, 11k dps, 5.5k armor (including mantra buff which is always on prertty much) 2.33 attacks a second. (weapon has 300 life on hit) 399 resists all.
Crippling wave is my damage reduction/mob control/champion pack kiting melee attack
Thunder fist is my pigmy chaser/Dps/life healing/ teleporting attack. i find having two primary attacks is better then using monks spirit attacks. they are a waste and i need that spirit to stay alive.
The other 4 are self explanitory. you need those defensive skills or you die.....simple (gee blizzard GREAT CUSTOMIZATION!!)
i can farm act 1 with zero trouble (even able to kill invincible minions without dying unless unlucky)
my gameplay usually involves me attacking like a badass, only dancing around when desecrator or molten is around. i dont enjoy heavy kiting so even if it brings me to the brink of death i will "dance" around the mob every so close on the edge of those anal champ abilities. Butcher is pig easy with this build so i tend to farm him all the time.
i have tried act 2 and i got to the first cave i found after the canyon and was traveling through it nicely until i met my firtst champion pack.....i even got lucky with no bullshit afflixes but i just gave up and went back to act 1.
only temptation i have is switching crippling wave with deadly reach. however 50% armor is only 10% reduction and i find that the enemy losing 20% attack in the first place as well as slower movement and attack speed is MUCH MUCH better.

any advise? Azmodan run in Hell mode.

I still can't tell if Act 3 Hell Azmodan or Act 1 inferno Butcher is better. Both give shit gear anyway, as the whole game tend to do.

Both give a huge amount of drops with 5 stacks of Nephalem valor (I'm averaging 2-3 rares plus 4-5 blues), and every now and then something good comes up.
Make sure you get 5 stacks beforehand.

Its corpse explosion effect is reduced like 90 percent or something on inferno. Even with a 800k 4 player mob it hits for like 14k or something silly.

I know, it's Inferno Butcher or Hell Azmodan with 5 stacks, and lots of elite packs before with the 5 stacks too. Can't seems to loot anything worth using nonetheless.

i just started doing 5 stacks and then belial runs (on inferno).. done 3 so far with pretty good drops. ive died 2 times with belial on 20 hp and then im trying to switch gear (mf gear for kill) and he slams and i die lol. worst thing ever. he dropped this badboy on my last run:
