I would like some help from fellow barbarians. I started Act 2-Hell by myself. I have a hard times with rare packs, I have to run around and use 2-3 potions, but I'm at least able to kill them without dying more often then not even tough it takes me a lot of time.
These are my current stats while using a 2-Hander: 24,000 HP 3.2 Armor (with nerves of steel) 3000 damage 1106 Strength 726 Vitality
Are these stats too low ? I am level 54 and my gear level is around level 50 I would say. I can link my items if needed.
My current build is here. I know using a shield with revenge is very popular, but is it the only viable build ? I tried it and did feel harder to kill, but at the same time I felt it took forever to kill even normal mobs and continually spamming revenge wasn't very fun. I feel with Ignore Pain and a 2-hander I am capable to absorb a couple of hard hits and heal myself to a certain extent.
Also, is Frenzy the best "basic attack" skill ? I agree that cleave is sub-par vs single targets but often mobs (even rare ones) are clumped together in a way I can hit them all at the same time. I feel you have stay immobile hacking non-stop a long time to get 5 stacks of frenzy and really make frenzy shine. Does Bash+Clobber still stun-lock Hell mobs like it did in NM and Normal ?

I watched him beat it. It was pretty awesome to see and helped me get the guts to stick w/ my barbarian. He also had lots of lifesteal and it seemed to be really helpful to him. Be interesting to see his gear too.
yea, the life on hit coupled with frenzy+sidearm gave him a lot of health back.
edit: may not have been the first barb solo:
Even if he wasn't the first. He was the first highly public barb solo inferno. Counts even more imo that he streamed all. I mean "random guy #14123" can get on the forums and be like DUDE I killed inferno Diablo!!!11! and show a ss and everything people prob claim ss is fake, etc.. Krip actually streamed the whole thing. No way to deny his kill.
someone who also solo'd posted the vid on youtube:

Shield isn't necessary if you're geared properly (Caphe is doing well with DWing, he'll probably be more knowledgeable on how to approach 2H/DWing), but there's less margin for error than if you've got a shield. Revenge IS going to be necessary as you approach A4 and Inferno. Ignore Pain simply doesn't have enough uptime, and you can't tank rare/champion packs for long enough to kill them without a BIG source of healing, and Revenge is your best form of healing by a wide margin.
Also, Revenge shouldn't make you take longer to kill things. 220% weapon damage on a skill not linked to your attack speed or a CD is really damn strong.

I used to have the same feelings about Frenzy, but Frenzy stacks actually keep really reliably. Also, one of the main potential draws of Frenzy is that the attack speed (and damage, if you're using Maniac) boosts the damage from other skills, not just Frenzy.
The thing about Cleave is that it has 2 real advantages over Frenzy: 1) it's a better fury generator, and 2) it's better in AoE. Neither advantage really matters. There aren't enough good fury spenders that you'd actually care for Cleave's fury generation advantage, and Barbarians already have no problem with AoE because of Revenge. Hell, if anything, the AoE can be a disadvantage sometimes, because killing random trash with other skills reduces your Revenge heals--there are times where I've pulled a bunch of Fallen/Stygian Crawlers while engaging a champion pack, and deliberately just let them hit me because the extra Revenge healing far out-does the 100-200 damage they're hitting you for.
On your build: Ditch Foot of the Mountain on Ground Stomp. The extra fury generation is absolutely worthless. Even if you did need the fury, Wrenching Smash is still 100% better for that, because grouping up 3-4 more mobs and getting extra Cleave hits on them is still better. Also, you should swap your passives. Ruthless just isn't really appreciable compared to the defense passives (Superstition and Relentless are both absolutely insane). Pound of Flesh is nice, but IMO much less reliable than one of the other defense passives.
If Clobber works like Frenzy's Smite rune, then you'll get the full stun on regular mobs, reduced stun/no stun on champions, and no stun on bosses.
Just got to Inferno myself, and dear god do things hit hard. I'm probably going to sit back a while and gear slowly--my gear is trash right now, and I'll definitely build up my resists a ton before I can progress reliably.
EDIT: OK it looks like I'm going to have to eat crow, because I just checked out the Barb Inferno Solo thread on reddit, and noticed that the guy is not running Revenge at all.
EDIT 2: Oh that's why. The guy has 40k+ DPS, and so can basically heal effectively off lifesteal, even WITH the diminished effect in Inferno.
Has anyone figured out yet if the diminished lifesteal for inferno counts towards "Life on Hit" effects? Cause I'm pretty sure that the only stat that the diminished lifesteal would effect is the "% of damage converted to life" stat. Not the life on hit stat cause that's just a base amount and it's not like every piece of gear can have that stat. Where as the % of damage converted to life would be broken at higher gear levels.

It's actually really interesting for a build, making use of Seismic Slam spamming for AoE and to put distance between yourself and mobs. I'm going to test it out. When I first saw the build having no Leap and no Revenge, it blew my mind.

I've heard that lifesteal is reduced by like 75% or something crazy like that. On inferno that is. I don't know if the number is accurate at all but apparently there is some kind of reduction happening which is just very annoying because how else is barb supposed to take this much damage.
Cleave with Rupture Seismic Slam with dmg increase Leap with 300 armor bonus Revenge with extra heal Ground stomp with vortex Ignore Pain with 20% life drain
Passives: Weapon master, and the two armor ones.
Bosses:
Frenzy with Sidearm Wrath of the Berserker with 100% dmg increase Leap with 300 armor bonus Revenge with extra heal Call of the Ancients with whatever glyph I last unlocked Ignore Pain with 20% life drain

He took Leap for Diablo himself. My guess is that he switches it up based on what he plans to face. Having played Leap-less for a while I can say that it's not strictly necessary, but there are certain champions/bosses that are a huge pain to face without it.
I think the biggest part is that he's essentially gotten lifesteal, a stat that we all WANT to work, to really work. Though it's questionable whether you could pull the required lifesteal numbers with any less insane DPS numbers.

Sounds like you are pretty undergeared. You should do more DPS and have more armor. At least I have a lot more. Also 2-hander is usually a lot worse than 1hand plus shield

Too low yes... My DH had more armor and hp with pure DPS gear whut o_O
Try using the auction house, search for str/vit stuff with resistances at like 50k or less a piece and get some decent 300-400 DPS weapon that's less than 100k or so, your current one seems bad.
Another alternative is to just grind nightmare act 3 final boss until you are lvl 60 and afterwards buy a lvl 60 set of equipments, the mid-end lvl 60 stuff is incredibly cheap and you can even get something like a 600 weapon attack 1h weapon for like 30k or something crazy like that. That's what I'd do personally.
5 hours in Inferno, I killed SK on my first attempt. Spend like 3 hours farming Cemetery, doesn't get anything good for Barb but got a few 60 yellows what I put on the AH, hopefully they will sell. Quite confidence that I can farm SK now.
Also, FML moment, just before SK I got 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor, just before the part where you have to destroy 4 pillars that spawn alot of skeleton, I switch my skills so I can kill those faster -_-. Wtf I was thinking... Got 2 blue that only vendor worth on SK. I am kicking myself so hard rightnow

Hey gratz
Stomped thru Act 1 with a Wizard friend yesterday after a long time farming SK. Getting Quick Butchering together with usual Achievement. We felt really confident and decided to proceed with act 2 straight away.
@pizzaparty those stats are fine for hell it'd prolly be easier if you hit the ah but you don't really have to
i'd do something like this but tbh if you just swap slam -> revenge you should be okay, tho there might still be some issues with tough elites yes frenzy is the best autoattack, probably the only one worth using (use sidearm). yes bash still stunlocks, but frenzy/smite stunlocks better than bash
Can anyone give me some clues as to what kind of gear I need to solo-farm Inferno (even start of act 1 would be fine).
I mean, I started trading vitality for elemental protection, and I got to a point where I have about 30k HP, even though the armor/elemental resistances are higher. Also my DPS is rather poor, I know. My stats: http://i.imgur.com/hqj5J.jpg
So I'm asking, where do I start? I can't really get a "better weapon" because I don't have millions of gold to get something that deals 800dps+. My current weap is doing 601dps I think. I would get more strength that would increase my damage as well but all I can find is going to make my vitality take a hit, again, and I can't afford that.
Any suggestions? Do I keep going for resistances? Do I mass str or try to get some more vitality? I saw someone stream with ~1500str and ~1500vitality but I have no idea how to get that kind of numbers with the kind of gold I'm farming. Help?
P.S.: Note that those numbers are without any help from the build. I got the nerves of steel/tough as nails/relentless to help with armor, and most of my build is defensive, I got no DPS coming so far, not even Rage shout. I tried getting a more DPS friendly build but my survivability goes down the drain.
@Cubedin: You stats is ok to farm up to SK, ofc not smooth afk farming though. You will die alot to 50% of rare packs but can kill other 50% with a few death or just straight up kill some easy packs.
One thing though, your DPS is low. I just started Inferno myself(just got SK), spend only like 100K on AH for my resistance. I am sitting at 7.8K dps but my resistant is way lower than yours though. I have 1.1K STR and 900 Vit. My suggestion is lower your resistance a bit for more HP and DPS, use Warcry to buff your resist instead.
Yes, I am using Warcry a lot, and I was thinking of boosting my DPS with rage or something like that. The only other way would be to get more str, like you have, and I will try to spend my money on that from now on. Str+Vit items is what I'm looking for at the moment.
And yeah, I managed to drag my body all the way to the butcher in Act 1, but by skipping 75% of the mobs, and I can't kill Butcher, it just takes too long. So I just wanted some farming as I'm sick of kicking Diablo's ass in Hell.

Throw a good emerald into your hat and farm act 2 / 3 Hell with maxed nephalems you can farm around 200kg per hour or more with lucky sells on AH.
From my perspective it's more important to prioritze Vitality over both resistance and strength for barb.
On act 3 inferno atm, doing typical shieldboard revenge frenzy warcry build. 600 dps wep is enough to finish Act 1 but prob not further.
Edit: I didn't look at your stats, you do need about 200 more str and vit in my opinion to finish act 1. Aim for 8k dps.
