Hi,

This is the first time I've ever played a diablo game. I find that my left eye always starts hurting when I play for longer than like 30 minutes. I have only experienced this while playing this game. Has anyone else experienced this/know how to alleviate it?

That's curious, my friend who got Diablo III was complaining of hurt eyes at work today. Of course, he played from 6:00 to 11:00 so that might be a little more understandable.

I've been to an optometrist before. I also have a lazy left eye, so I wonder if that's related. It's strange that it doesn't bother me with any other games though. I think it might be because there are some areas in the game where parts of the level are elevated above your character, cuz it only seems to bother me in those areas. Guess no one else has had this problem though..=/

heh.. since its not with other games..
hmm..
can be so many different things.. perhaps one effect in the game have a certain light or flash that fucks with the eye..
gamma or lighting in general ..

all in all i've been playing alot.. and no ill effects except those that come with little sleep

My 2 cents: you could try increasing the brightness so that dark backgrounds don't "suck you in" that much. Make sure to have sufficient background light in your room as well, so that your pupils don't dilate too much. If possible I'd try moving the monitor a little further away. Make sure you relax as best you can while playing.

my eyes actually hurt all last night while playing it and my eyes usually never hurt from playing games. I really think its the contrast between lights and darks in the game and also the rapid movements.

I have to say the game is a bit too dark for me, you may want to try upping the gamma and see if that helps.

Did find the same thing. Turning on lights in the room helped with me. The game has lots of contrast. Gamer eyes aren't yet adapted to colour.

Oh wow, i had the same experience yesterday, but i got better after an hour or so. Might really be the heavy contrast which your eyes adapt to

I had the same eye pain for the first time ever in any game during that beta weekend but figured it was from a marathon game session. The first day this week my eyes hurt 30 minutes in, I've fiddled with every setting I can think of... it still kills my eyes. Even in a bright room with an ideal distance from the screen I can barely play at all before it starts to hurt at this point. I'll definitely post if I can find some answers.

the game has a LOT of effects and stuff going on at the same time, i can see why problems occur at this exact game and not others.
i mean, basically my whole screen is exploding nonstop.

Ive noticed it too, while playing other games for long sessions my eyes have been fine but with D3 they are getting tired much more quickly.

I have a feeling it has a lot to do with the colour of the game in general. d3 uses a lot of pale and sof colours. and the effects used in d3 are often not that, very bright, very colourful. This can cause our pupils to go into a sort of wack. Since the softer colours let our pupils relax, then the sudden bright flashes of light can cause our pupils to hurt, or have to adjust quickly, which isn't natural for our eyes, since our eyes were not made for the sudden flashes of light.

What you can do is keep the area where you are playing as bright as possible. Keeping it bright will keep your pupils used to the amount of light intake, this should help you play for longer. Though it may not extend your playtime by a very large amount, it may help a bit. or should solve the problem completely.

Maybe its due to all the effects in the game? I was having some trouble playing on high so I turned everything down and hit the 'low fx' tick box and it seemed to clear it up for me, maybe it can help you.
