I think this is a poor decision but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. They already have my money so...
Time held me green and dying though I sang in my chains like the sea.

This is really the important point. Complaining about GOM's decision isn't really productive. Criticizing the way they made their decision is.

Lately there's been a pattern of GOM making decisions that are unpopular, and have no real rational explanation. This is a lot like the selection of foreigners seeded in Code A. It seems like GOM is making haphazard decisions based on cost and expediency, instead of building a strong and consistent organization.

It's as though they woke up the morning before their big exam and realized they never studied anything. People often say things like "This isn't bad for such short notice" or "They have to make some compromises in order to get someone quickly." That's fine for most situations, but GOM is running the world's largest esports tournament. This is supposed to be a serious organization, with serious sponsors, giving away serious money. It really seems pretty disorganized though.

I really hope Kelly does well, but that doesn't mean picking her was a smart decision. GOM needs to wise up if they want to keep running the world's premier SC2 league. There are plenty of other organizations out there who would love to take their place.

I agree. This is something that people really should be considering.

I think that djWHEAT and Chill did a great job discussing this on one of the older Weapon of Choice podcasts. Essentially, djWHEAT was saying that Tasteless and Artosis, while totally awesome, should start acting more professionally because of the sheer magnitude of the tournament. Not so much that "we want eSports to be serious" but more that "they're not taking it seriously enough at all."

GOM seems to be throwing things together just so that they can finish. It's like waking up one morning and just quickly throwing together some answers for the homework that you didn't do the night before.

really curious how she will do, I will be watching the code A offcourse, alot of awesome players to cheer for. especially now that Idra is not in Code S anymore. Code A is starting to look like the one to watch.

Dont get me wrong, i like the "high level play" of Code S, but having foreign players to pray for gives it just a bit extra.

Tastosis is cool and all.... but they are wrong about like 80% of their predictions and Tasteless is not that good of a cocaster. Artosis is the head caster and for obvious reasons. There is no reason to be sad about a new caster coming in to cast Code A matches. That means Tastosis can have their energy and voices for Code S matches.
It's really funny how a lot of people are complaining for the stupidest and more ignorant reasons.

I feel like this article is in such a negative tone and is criticizing Kelly. I'm not a fan of hers, but I can't help but feel bad for her. For now, I wish her the best of luck! That is, until she starts to interrupt Tasteless/Artosis constantly with unnecessary comments..

This post is REALLY unfair to gom considering they just did the best thing that has happened to the community since launch: use new maps.

Yes this decision is questionable, but they had a process for selecting foreign players for Code A and they had a process for this (tho it seems meh). You make it sound like they keep fucking up when that simply isn't true. They have done a lot more good than bad. Hell, they just got Intel to sponsor them.

GOMTV words for hiring her.

"Kelly had a good resume and showed us that she was willing to adapt and improve as a caster."

"IN SC2, she is best known for her commentary on live games, especially in the SEA/ANZ scene. She has commentated at SMM 2010, Blizzard Invitational SEA/ANZ region to name a few."

Pretty sure if they bothered to actually check out those events they would of seen it was a total disaster because of the commentators.

I paid for the GSL March ticket for code S. Not for code A, thought I'll def watch those too. So I won't be requesting a refund. I'll just most likely not watch the code A now and miss out on any great games that might've happened. Heard her before and I just listened again to confirm my reasons for not approving. Her accent is way too thick and she talks too fast to understand. You have to literally conciously listen to her talk and have knowledge of what is going on in the game to understand what she is talking about. You can't simply lay back and space out listening and watching the game. This is a huge disapointment to me and I hope GOM realizes why we want this changed immediately.

Actually, Kelly just needs to slow down and pronounce the words properly. It's a typical problem that quite a few Singaporeans face. Basically, it's a sloppier/lazier way of speaking. Like I remember the casts she did with TotalBiscuit where she kept saying "pu" when she actually meant "pull." The last letter just seems to be cut off, hence often sounding like a different word altogether. I'm sure if she just goes slower, her casting will become a lot clearer. Since Kelly will be doing casting at a professional level, she'll probably take more effort in her speaking so it won't be too bad. As for the Singlish and occasional awkward sentence construction, Kelly might be able to code-switch. We'll see what happens soon enough.

Unsatisfied? Demand a refund, hit them where it hurts and where it truly matters. The wallet and viewership.

You'll probably want to make a new thread with this, as I seriously doubt very many people will look this far into this thread (while actually reading everything) and end up voting.

I do think it would be nice to have an idea how overwhelmingly we're against her, though. That would be a nice stat to pull out to show how bad the choice is.

Does GOM really think SC2 fans are that one dimensional??
You'd be surprised how many of them were in the original announcement thread... Comments like "she's nice" or "she's cute" were used in her casting ability's defense.
I really hate men sometimes... I really hope they don't judge her abilities on how cute she is or nice, or hot.. or any other man-ho standards. I seriously wish there was a good SC2 female-english speaking gamer who wouldn't mind casting this. Someone with some umph and less Ummms. If she improves, I am going to be a fan but right now I am just turned off. I was looking forward to this season so much! After the GSTL, I noticed great new players in Code A lineup and now this!

Lets give her a chance this season but if it's bad, please do not make these excuses. It is honestly more insulting than just telling her she sucks at casting. No girl wants to hear you only wanna keep her because it's better than listening to 2 boys talking all the time, she is hot, or awww she is so cute and nice. Don't be that kind of nerd, it is not attractive! And yes, I am a girl so take this advice.. it's solid on this matter

Not pumped for Code A at all anymore. ~_~. Was really looking forward to Tastosis casting this since this is the best Code A lineup for a foreigners yet. :/

Well, goodbye for now Code A; regardless of constraints on the part of GOM, Kelly is laughably unqualified to cast a tournament of this level. I'm sure a sharp downturn in viewership will speak to that.

Have you read the whole thread? At least the majority of us are criticizing her with an actual basis for our arguments (e.g., the posted YouTube video that shows a match she casted).

This is a pretty serious issue. It's a massive part of the premiere SC2 tournament in the world. We have quite a bit invested in it, be it our time, our money or both.

I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to make a thread for a poll. :/

On the bright side, this is only for code A and really, how many games do you normally watch on that circuit? Me personally its between 5-10 tops.

What!!!! This is not code A of Jan, this brackets are stacked!!! Most of these players did way better in the GSTL than the code S counterparts.

GSTL is also a very different beast. I didn't watch BW games really, but, as said on one of the recent State of the Game podcasts, there were some teams in BW who had players that got nowhere in the main tournament and then would dominate the team leagues (or, at least, do way, way better).

I agree with you that some of them did spectacularly, but we can't make such a bold judgment yet (I'm excited for the new blood, though!).

I dont think i expressed myself very well, im not saying code A will be better than S, but not take this month code A matches lightly. Comparison with S in GSTL was used to support that point. I agree team leagues are different in that a player may choose their oppenent thus resulting in some player being terrible at pvz and pvt but is a beast at pvp.

Kelly has to first get herself coaching lessons and a voice modulation program done. This is for her betterment so that people can understand what's being said (an accent is fine but atleast the words should be pronounced right).

Good luck I hope she can flower into a good caster from the current state.
