(gonna be my first attempt translating from Chi - Eng..please do notify me of any mistakes in translation.)
Sea.GuemChi, who "retired" after last season's Proleague is back to Woongjin Stars. After returning from India, Guemchi strongly feels that what he wants to do is to be a professional gamer.
"It is like I retired and revived very suddenly. During the period of my life as a progamer, I felt really tired. It is really stressful to see myself not reaping the efforts of the hours spent practicing, and therefore for a moment I decided to let it go. The period of time going to India made me realised that the only thing I could do, is to be a progamer."
The trip to India reignited Guemchi's passion for StarCraft. Even though GuemChi feels that he has already tried his very best, he still thinks he should push it even further in order to be an even greater progamer. He admits that he over-evaluated himself as a player, and feels very sorry for that.
"During the trip I reflected on myself as a progamer, and I wanted to see if there is anything in me left to do anything about it. I think winning will not be a problem if I am able to give all my best and try again, therefore I am back."
In fact, Sea.GuemChi really wanted to play StarCraft again. He even had the intention of switching over to StarCraft II. Back at the time, he insisted on retiring even though Coach Lee tried to dissuade him, thus he feels very sorry towards Woongjin.
Playing Starcraft II does not satisfy his desire to play Starcraft - He misses fans cheering for him, and the feeling of winning together with his team mates.
Last season Woongjin's new staffs went to see the match between Woongjin and CJ, in which Guemchi AK'ed. Guemchi dearly misses the cheers from the new staffs and the feelings from then, therefore he wants to go back and play Starcraft and get back that kind of feeling again.
"It isnt easy to go back and play Starcraft again, but Coach readily agreed when I asked to be back. Coach initially wanted me to come back as soon as possible, but I was too ashamed of myself to do so, and it dragged on for so long."
Finally, he says, " My current status in Woongjin Stars is as a practice partner. I will slowly work myself up from this position again, so please do support me."

i guess so lol
YAY GEUMCHI FOR BONJWA welcome back to bw
lol also reminds me of Eat Pray Love (the movie i didnt watch but i kind of know what its about) where he went off to india to rediscover himself and his true life goals / passions or whatever haha

Winners league bonjwa is back. Glad to see him un-retire! He's always had a knack of making his opponents somehow make uncharacteristic and hilariously bad mistakes. I'm sure he can get his place as a player back. Wonder if he was enlightened by his trip to india that made him reverse his decision?
It's actually really understandable for progamers like this to quit. I mean, they practice 10+ hours a day, and they still get no fame/money unless they're in the top 10 rankings. Anyways, good to see this guy back.
To be honest, I would have liked to see him play SC2, I think the interview he gave with Artosis at the GSL quals was interesting. That said, it's only a matter of time before Guemjwa all-kills again. Realpenguin, we eagerly await that day.

Nah. I was vaguely aware he was playing because I saw him on Startale's roster but he hasn't made any notable appearances anywhere(in fact he hasn't had time to I don't believe).
Interesting to see him back playing Brood War again, though. He must have a true passion
read: he didn't manage to autowin at sc2 without trying, so he finally decided to take a trip to where he had been wanting to go for 4+ years, and now he is going to bring back the pain to PL viewers. I was so happy to see him gone

I am pretty sure he joined GSL qualifiers. Did not qualify though.
Pretty cool news XD Always a fun protoss to watch. Maybe he can reinforce the protoss dominance this season! Would be cool if this was just the beginning... we can only hope Wonder if we'll see him this round
A bit too late to come back to the party, SC2 dweebs gonna crash it soon... although given the total fail with free and flying, he might get to play a few games soon enough.

He does not say anything about SC2 as a game, he only misses his old team and the fans he had. And as they are 2 different games SC2 just is not the same as BW and thus he misses BW. I can understand the man, but he never said anything bad in this interview about SC2

cheerio
Surprisingly this thread didn't really have people bashing SC2 anyway! Progress, perhaps.
Like that guy said though it's a bit sad how few fans there are for Korean SC2. I don't think Guemchi will be doing very well on his return.
As much as I hate to admit it, I don't want to see someone like NaDa or Julyzerg go back to BW. They would have such a difficult time with things. Their reasonably successful sc2 career so far makes me so much happier than them failing to qualify for OSL ever could.
Since he's rejoining as a practice partner then its not really date-dependent. If he were to make it back into the A-team or signed up for the dream league then he would first need to first be added to the roster.

Hmm, I think their motivation just died down. I think those two definitely still do have great potential. Take a look at oov - his builds are so creative even after he'd retired. Not everything is about perfect mechanics, ______ attained bonjwadom with 200-250 APM after all.
I'd be extatic if their break made them hungry for more BW! :D

Dunno man, it was pretty heartbreaking for me to watch nada lose to Falcon in some qualifiers a while back. If he really tried hard enough he might be able to take a good stab at an individual league (Look at his amazing msl run where he ended up going 2-3 against Jangbi for proof).
However, playing sc2 so much gives you a ton of bad habits. At this point it would be really hard to come back and do something meaningful.
Ah I was wondering what happened to Guemchi. He and MVP were the only 2 A team starters (circa 2010) to switch to playing SC2 right? I was wondering why Guemchi wasn't destroying GSL the way MVP was. Guess his heart was never truly in it. Hopefully he can regain his old form and help Woongjin to not suck so much.

This may have a lot to do with it, the passion part I mean. SC2 also may just not click with every BW player's particular strengths. Look at Sangho, who, if I'm not mistaken, was a lower division a-teamer. By rights he should have an advantage over Iron or Clare but he's disappointingly mediocre.
But off the subject of SC2 abilities, how good WAS Guemchi as a BW pro? Before he switched, I mean. I'm relatively new to the BW scene so the first I heard about him was the GSL 3 qualifiers(which I guess does count as a notable appearance).

You can tell Guemchi didn't give a crap about SC2, even in his interview with Artosis. I guarantee you he went into the qualifiers with very limited practice and zero understanding of the game.

Eventually July will transition into full-time broadcasting. He's already hosting a TV show on OGN with Shin Ae.
Well, now that the real bonjwa's back, I forsee an end to Flash and Jaedong's domination in his absence. Thankfully for Stork, Guemchi isn't capable of playing in this season's SL.
=0! G-Chizzle is back in da house, yo! He's gonna be all-killin stuff up in Winner's League and pimping the other players, so y'all better ide your aces and hide your snipers, cause he's gonna be all-killing everything up in here! But on a more serious note: I'm happy to see Guemchi back after what seemed to be a sudden retirement. I started taking a liking to him after he made that all-kill in WL last year (and the epic post from realpenguin that followed soon after). Hope to see him do well in PL/WL! =D

Nah thats if they revoke their progaming licence iirc, if he didnt revoke it he is able to come back any time aslong as a team is willing to take him

What a champ. Switching to SC2 would have been so much easier and tempting for him at this stage, especially considering the success that his former teammate, MVP, is having. Even though returning to BW is going to be a far more challenging task, he still ultimately decided to go with what he loves rather than just looking to earn some quick, easy money through SC2. Very admirable choice from Guemchi. I'm definitely gonna be rooting for him.
Happy news, didn't see much of Guemchi but he was an exciting up-and-comer by all reports. It's good to see people are realising Brood War's still where it's at, too

Thats why now he is a sparing partner for a team... He can't play in league matches till that time clears.

first of many imo
I think he was the only one to fail to qualify for the GSL at all, keeping in mind he only attempted season 3. I think the others are just a tad bit more invested than trying once and giving up.

I don't think he ever was motivated to make something happen in sc2.

Yeah... this almost seems like a non-story; it's weird.
An unaccomplished BW pro makes a half-assed attempt at sc2, completely fails to achieve anything, then "goes back" to BW...?

All-kills are accomplishments, bro. Ok, its not a golden mouse, but he's not nobody.
Yesss, Guemchi's back! I'd expect it to be hard for him to keep up with people if he hasn't been playing at all, especially if he was never that good. Still, it was fun to cheer for him and Flying is ass at BW so hopefully he'll be replacing him soon.
