The scandal is on the front page of talkingpointsmemo: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ We'll see how that plays out. From what I've read it looks small but could get more serious, so I don't know. I don't really follow Alaska politics.

Obama's pick needed to add to his resume, and I think McCain's needed to be a backup.

Just look through a newspaper and see how many times the byline -AP appears newspapers choose which AP articles to syndicate. AP articles traditionally tend to be less valued than what other newspapers print because they lack depth, but they are important to small papers that can't afford international bureaus. Also, they tend to be the first to report anything, so even big papers make use of them. Anyway, there's still reuters. regarding Palin -- who the fuck?!? he passed over romney for some bitch? does he realize he's 10 points behind obama in polls regarding the economy? does he realize that clinton supporters are democrats and regardless of their moaning and bitching are still going to vote democrat? regarding the scandal, i smell an McGovern-Eagleton!

For some reason, I think that the Hillary supporters will see right through this pick and actually be offended. But, maybe I'm just being optimistic.

Palin has been in higher office as Governor of Alaska for exactly half the time Obama has been in the Senate. Before that, she served only two full terms in the City Council, from 1992 to 1996, before running for mayor of Wasilla. To put this in perspective, Wasilla had a population of only 7,738 people as of 2004. By contrast, as TPM's Eric Kleefeld calculates, Obama's State Senate district had roughly 210,000 people -- about 27 times the number Palin repped in lower office.

I believe the quote was that having Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency was irresponsible. Obama has a very similar amount of experience and less achievements, is it irresponsible to elect him? Senator is a much more significant post than City Council and Mayor. Governor > Senator IMO, but still she's only chief executive over 700,000 people. That quote is specifically pointing out that McCain could croak any second, and people shouldn't trust her to lead the country. 8 years in Illinois Senate + 4 years in Senate >> 2 years as Governor of Alaska + 4 years City Council and 6(?) years Mayor of Wasilla. Wasilla has 5,500 people btw.

They're both first term Senator/Gov so where does Obama get his wealth of experience qualifying him from the presidency and yet Palin is obviously deficient? Because he really has 12 years of Senatorial experience. The city council/mayor stuff can be thrown out the window. It's meaningless.
