Pledged Delegates

Delegates that are acquired through the primary elections. They are awarded proportionally to the share of the vote garnered in each primary or caucus.

Superdelegates

Members of the democratic party's establishment. These delegates can support whoever they like and can change their support at any time.

There are 796 superdelegates. If neither candidate can garner sufficient pledged delegates to clinch the nomination, it is widely believed the superdelegates will side behind whoever is the "people's choice" (aka the leader in pledged delegates and popular vote).

Technically, the nominees are not official until the conventions. I think it'd be interesting to discuss VP picks in this thread, if anyone has any insight on that.

For this election, it seems like it's going to come down to the economy, and energy, including mortgages, bank failings, oil prices, taxes, etc. These really dwarf Obama's health care plans and either candidate's military position (especially since Obama has come to the center).

It's been a pretty bad month for Obama he has slipped everywhere it seems. Even with McCain joking about killing Iranians again, and saying that the economy issue is simply "psychological" the media for some reason hasn't caught that, and with the New Yorker's front cover the media seemed to ignore that as well. That didn't seem to be newsworthy.

How can anyone be undecided here? McCain is 72. He's already showing signs of senility. You don't give senile war veterans with low intelligence that have 72-76 years on them nukes. We don't need more senseless foreign policy.
Live to win.

Sometimes, I wonder if random or "senseless" policy making really would be worse than what we have right now.

As far as foreign policy goes, senseless is what we have. Or was... George W. has been changing things up recently.

Obviously, it's amazing the word flip flop hasn't been issued in regards to the president. Bolton, doesn't even like Bush now that he is pretty much trying to sit down with Iran, and give into N. Korea. It's almost like Bush is trying to pack as much diplomatic improvements into his administration before the general election.

Sorry for the double post, but McCain screws up Geography lesson once again.

"I think it's serious. . . . It's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border."

First it was Putin being President of Germany, then the Czech situation, and then mixes up culture groups in Iraq. Now I can see how it might just be a mess up of the tongue but come on it's like a business meeting gone wrong.

Sadly, 80% of those who dislike him seem to give me that same answer.
