The very first thing you will do once legion is released is teleport to the new Dalaran where you will get a quest to get your first artifact, you can pick which, and directly after you go to your class Order hall. The Order hall is like a garrison for your class. you will see others of your class there and no other classes can enter it. There you will get quests for your class campaign and you can send a very small group of followers on missions, mostly for Artifact Power items. (will get to that later). Its a super lite version of your garrison. You will unlock all other artifacts of your class at 102. During your questing, from random mobs, rares and as loot drops in dungeons/raids you will get items that grant Artifact power. These are simple right click to use items which grant AP (artifact power) to your current weapon so you can save them up if you want. At increasing intervals you will unlock a point to spend on your artifact traits. the first dozen are pretty quick, after that the cost quickly ramps up. It will take multiple months to fully unlock an artifact. Once points are spend on 1 artifact you cant move those points to another, sucks for switching specs but that is sadly how it is. The sharp rise in trait costs tho means that if you level up a second artifact it will not be far behind the first, simply because going from 15 to 16 traits costs more then the first dozen combined. In your Order Hall you can do artifact research (once your 110) (like a work order in WoD) which increases AP gained so as time passes you will get more and more (this is not retroactive, so saving up items does nothing). Most of your AP will come from World Quests at 110. There is a whole bunch of quests in the world which respawn on varies timers that will award AP items and other stuff for you to use (including gear). Edit: One last thing, your artifact can take 2 (3 later) so called relics, they are like gems and socket into the artifact, they are quest rewards and loot drops. They increase the item level of your artifact and provide a bonus point to a specific trait, this is in addition to any points you have already unlocked on that trait.

And thanks for letting us know! :D I think the Order Hall looks like the better version of a Garrison (gives it a bit more character than some shitty outpost), and the artifact weapon reminds me of the old talent trees which used to be expansive and let you kinda play your own style (but obviously minmaxing would be necessary for top performance in raids). Could be Blizzard's response to people being annoyed with how streamlined everything has gotten.

There is not a lot of min/max to be done with the Artifact tho, Your intended to unlock all of it, the only optimization is which traits to go for first. It is more of an alternate progression path. It gives people something to always work on even if you don't have the time for a raid or dungeon you can do a world quest or 2 and get some more AP.

On the beta if you skip the broken shore you get teleported there and if you dont then you get there at the end of the event chain. The broken shore is all done in the 7.0 pre-patch over the coming weeks. Probably ending just before the teleport of Dalaran to the Broken Isles.

You can not actually progress through legion without getting an artifact weapon. It is also the only weapon that drops in legion so get attached to it because it the only thing you got. If you are playing legion because you think having an artifact weapon will make you powerful, prepare to be disappointed because that is not what they are. I suppose it is sort of false advertising since some people believe that having the ashbringer or doom hammer will make them stronger when it actually not. Although it is branded as artifact, the artifact weapon when you initially get it is no different from a green weapon you would get when you start legion. It is through leveling up that it will become strong and pretty much be at a "purple" quality when you start raiding at max level.

What I meant is that when you initially get the artifact, it will be pretty much a green/blue quality weapon that you initially get at the start of the expansion. Of course it will be better then your mythic manno weapon because it is new expansion and the weapon is for player 101+. Regardless, my point is that when you get the artifact, don't expect to go around feeling like you are powerful and cleaving through mobs just because it is an artifact as you would with a purple quality item. The artifact itself will feel like more like green quality weapon and you will still have some resistance when fighting mobs.

Think it sent me a mail but i can't see/open the mail until i resub I believe you need to log into an alliance character to get send the alliance items, and a horde to get send the horde items. If your not subbed at the moment you can still create a new character or log into a 20 or lower one to get them (I think)
