really hope the pvp is good this time around, havent bought the game yet but i might and i might do what i usually do
Level classes->do some pvp->if its fun i might stick around->if it suck, i am not sticking around
I did subscribe just for the pre-patch. Must say, i am a bit dissapointed with the class changes actually. Thought it was gonna be much better. Does artifacts work in pvp btw? anyone knows?

It works but most of the talent tree in the artifact are passives so it not really going to alter your game play very dramatically. I think the expansion and spec are going to revolve more around which legendary you have and how you build around it. Since item level are pretty much normalized, gear affect very little in PvP. Therefore you can't really build more crit to make fire mages stronger.
Some class changes are crap and some are good. They all work and do their job fine but as for if they are fun or interesting....it is a hit or miss. Good time now to try to play around with the spec you like and prepare for the expansion. Because like I said, artifact talent tree is mostly passive so the game play you receive now is pretty much probably going to be the same. Of course this is just speculation since we are never too sure until it actually does come out.

Legiondairies don't work in pvp, just like pve trinkets etc. They really need to screw bad, other than just not being able to balance with stat templates now, to screw pvp.
Prepatch is usually shitshow for some classes and others can two shot people, don't pay too much attention to it, unless you mean you're disappointed in the classes mechanic wise.

I'm disappointed enough with the class changes to not even want to play the game in the prepatch

With the approach their taking, screwing up balance would be very hard.
However, I'm worried that they will prune down/simplify classes to the point where it just isn't fun to play.
We will see though.

They already reached that point in WOD, IMO.
MM hunters spent:
53% of their time spamming builder 26% of their time using spender #1 10.5% of their time using a medium cooldown damage burst (less if there was opportunity to save it for cleaves) 6.8% of their time using kill shot ~3% of their time using AOE talent (powershot or barrage)
That was just straight up boring for me. Spend 79% of the fight pressing 1 and 2, press 3 whenever it's available with no further considerations on most fights. That's literally 90% of your actions (sorted by time spent).

Someone with beta access: are dps classes more boring to play right now because we lack artifacts? Do they make all the difference in having interesting rotations?
Because if this prepatch is basically what Legion is, I'm not bothering.

I didnt mean balance when i said i didnt like what they did to the classes. In wrath, the classes felt much more fun to play and also cool to watch if you havent played it before. Example, you play rogue. Saw a destruction warlock and was "wow".
Warriors for example had overpower before which was cool, unique and an active ability. Now as a arms warrior you can talent it but it needs to trigger before you can use it.
Well dont wanna overanalyse it really. Iam excited about the pvp talents, and thats it pretty much. Oh, and the mobs scale at 100-110 so now i can just smahs things and level up effecient and not need to look to "where to go now".

I have absolutely no beta experience but I've been dabbling with my mage as fire since the patch and quite enjoying it. Just the small change of letting you cast Fire Blast any time, reacting to Heating Up procs even mid Fireball casts, is pretty entertaining for me. More so than some of the other classes look after the patch at least.

More so than some of the other classes look after the patch at least. The fire mage artifact has a use ability with a short(ish) cd (45s) that is a guaranteed crit so it is actually part of their rotation in legion.
For Shadow Priests the way the class plays doesn't really changes, no artifact traits that change rotations, it just reinforced the pre-patch play style.
I dont know how much each spec plays different, The only one I have played a good amount of on Beta is priest. And Fire mage is always the one that gets mentioned when people remark that some specs play different pre-patch compared to Legion.
Overall tho I don't think playstyles change massively.

artifacts themselves just give each spec one extra ability and a bunch of passives that doesn't dramatically change the way a spec plays from how it is live. although how big of a difference artifacts makes varies from spec, if the question is artifacts is going to make the game drastically different from how it is live, the answer is no.
|
So it looking like I assumed that artifact has little affect on play style. In PvE I suppose you can customize how you play around the legendary you get. It is looking like in PvP is that what you get is what your pretty much going to get.
|
Most artifact abilities are cooldowns that deal a lot of damage, and any playstyle changes around them involve either dumping resources before they come up because they generate a lot, or saving up resources for them to dump. Many of the traits are akin to trinket procs or tier set bonuses.
for DPS I'd say like... Fire, Balance, Ret have the most impactful artifact abilities on playstyle (although Ret needs a gold trait for it). MM's doesn't really impact anything since it's a relatively low cost "do damage" button but it's one of the lowest cooldowns, and the movespeed buff might make positioning important for some strats.
Shadow's just reinforces what it already wants to do, but smart usage of it is important for big Surrender to Madness numbers
Arms is useful in that it applies the colossus smash debuff in an AoE

Bit the bullet and resubbed last night. Spent like 2-3 hours just doing action bars and reading all the new stuff for my various characters.
I decided to boost a Warlock, but now I kind of regret not boosting my Druid. I did so since the Druid is already 61, but I kind of want to play Resto at 100 more than a caster.
