Agreed and frankly, Blizzard has to know this. I'm expecting some sharding in the opening week(s), just to save us the trouble of not getting into the game for days. As Lore said on forums:
+ Show Spoiler +As you've noticed, the Classic Demo does have realm sharding. This is to let as many people as possible experience it without technical issues such as server capacity or spawn density getting in the way.
Longer term, we know how crucial it is to the Classic experience for you to see your friends when you walk into Stormwind or when you’re helping them on a quest you’ve already completed. And there should only ever be one Kazzak on a realm, no matter how many people are waiting for him to spawn.
We’re still looking at how we can best deliver an authentic Classic experience at launch, and in the weeks and months that follow - both in terms of gameplay and community. You won’t see phasing (which is tied to specific quests that don't exist in Classic) or cross-realm zones (which combine multiple realms together) in Classic. However, realm sharding is one of the best tools we have to keep realms stable when hundreds of players are swarming the same initial few zones and killing the same few mobs (like they will be at the launch of Classic). To that end, we do believe that some form of sharding may be helpful, especially in those early days. But we recognize that a cohesive world is critical to WoW Classic and are committed to bringing that to you. https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20769548630#15
After watching the Classic panel that just ended, they clearly want to make the experience as authentic as possible.

Still hoping that they make BFA as authentic as possible too, this is the largest daily annoyance on the live server for me which makes most of the world content unenjoyable.

Wild Chris Metzen comes forward to ask a question on the WoW Q&A panel. <3

The team is trying to strike a balance between deterministic goals and RNG. Ion acknowledges that the RNG has gone too far. Going forward, they are introducing some vendors and trying to implement more deterministic methods of obtaining important gear. The team has discussed improving bad luck protection and streak breaking (getting multiples of the same item) especially in weekly caches. The team plans to continue to retire bad Azerite traits and add new ones to give more player choice. They also want to add more depth to the Heart of Azeroth necklace. The team is pretty satisfied with the offensive portion of the global cooldown changes. They want to avoid macroing a bunch of abilities into one key and better design specs around these abilities. Movement abilities such as Heroic Leap are being taken off the global cooldown in 8.1.

So here we go. Ion mentioned that there will be limited sharding on certain (low?) pop realms and for the first few weeks at launch. Specifically in the starting zones.

You will be able to transmog over fist weapons with an array of one handed weapons in 8.1
8.1 is fixed gg guys, we can all go home from blizzcon
Yeah, the phasing stuff sounds fine

I hope this mean Sword into Fist is on too. I want to get double invisible fist weapons back.( I currently have 1 sword and 1 fist weapon, it's awkward as hell )

It probably will. Super awkward right now with a ton of fists everywhere and BIS weapon being fist which we can't transmog anything onto (including the illidan glaives which i just got after farming it since it was added)

Legendary lol
I gotta watch the MDI still

Kinda funny how everyone is complaining about blood elf racials, but the MDIA was all night elves for shadowmeld skips.

Shadowmeld is nuts but the game also sucks to play without it because the combat mechanics don't work very well. So many times getting stuck in combat and having to stand around doing nothing until it ends unless you've got feign/meld
also nowadays it's straight broken and probably a 1 in 5 chance it won't actually drop combat and the guy will run across the room to hit you in the face anyway (which instantly breaks it) despite you being the only person there

I believe invis pots were not allowed, so they had to result to shadowmeld instead because clearing even 1 pack more then needed is so punishing in a real race.
On live i'm pretty sure Horde is still stronger.

Is there any list of the rules and which gear they were using etc?

This calms some of my fears. 1-10 or 1-20 wont make me hate life on classic.

I was unaware of the rules stating they couldn't use invis pots. I thought it was used in one of the Temple of Sethraliss but I could be mistaken.
Did they have a list of the banned items anywhere?

Another thing i've been thinking about - the system in Runescape is analogous to sharding moreso than WoW realms. There are many "servers" with copies of the world that players are spread between BUT you can choose which one you're on at will. If there are too many players, they spin up more of them. If there are too few, people can just log into different servers so that there's a healthy population on a bunch of them and no barrier to playing there.
Such a system has serious drawbacks but is less problematic than the WoW sharding system IMO. People pick specific worlds to hang out on and form friendships and communities on and it doesn't get in the way as much.
There is also no kind of realm limits like trading or mythic raid content in WoW because there are no realms, only shards ("servers") to pick from at character login or from an ingame UI. You can see which shard everybody in your friends list etc is on at any time.
I hate any kind of realmhoppy behavior but if it's in-game it's best done with a simple button rather than jumping through a bunch of awkward hoops like spamming request invites to people on other realms via the group finder or keeping a second account with an alt on another realm.
Any thoughts?
Edit: It's also worldwide with like 150 shards or whatever to pick from - some of them have london ping, some paris, some new york etcetc. You can choose freely if you want to have the best ping or to play in somebody else's region. That's a tricky point for some people in WoW, the fact that if you're nightshift or just active late it's far harder to be active in most of the relevant content.
On other games some of us late nighters follow the day/night curve west around the planet, 3am EUW is highly active on US-East with a ping that's still tolerable as an opt-in*.
*My ping is currently around 8ms to UK servers and still managing to hold below 100ms on US-East.

Agreed. I thought the format would just be the the minimum sum of time for all 3 dungeons, which would have made every dungeon matter.

You can use invisibility potions during the MDI. The 10 minute pot cd is less than ideal. Doesn't take you as far as shroud either since u cant use movement abilities without breaking the potion. Shadowmeld is the best racial in M+ by far if you have access to a priest. Shadowmeld can bug sometimes but you can just brez your healer if it doesnt work.

I can't imagine ever thinking weapons look better than the old artifact glaives for demon hunters.

wtf
I could have sworn I looked for my glaives and they didn't show up. Everything other than glaives is blasphemy on a DH.
