Attacking while moving is a pretty cool thing that hunters have which no other range does. Makes them perfect for high movement mechanics which still require dps.

Play what you like, anything else will be a dissappointment.

And if your worried about queues as a dps play a hybrid that is capable of tanking or healing. Even as a badly geared offspec you will be fine for LFR/LFD

I just looked at maintenance, such a late one this week. 6pm est finish time is unbelievably late =/.

edit: And they finished 4 hours early. Talk about giving themselves a lot of extra time in case stuff went wrong.

Nothing really new for this patch. It only introduced Valor points, heirloom trinkets, and the cata time walking. The actual legion changes arent going to be implemented until the legion launch patch, which should be about a month before the expansion releases.

I have the flying achievement now works perfectly on my 100s but my 96 and 92 can't fly. Is this intended?

As far as i know, that's a bug. Triple check the silly stuff (like having the right level of riding skill). I think blizzard have even said outright that it was intended to be able to fly with leveling alts after having done the content

I hate it when people talk about how good Ulduar/ICC/Kara/etc was and how bad they are now. The truth is the game has changed too much to be able to compare them. In Vanilla and TBC the gameplay was so simple, you could always play your class at 100% of theoretical potential. Raids were balanced around that. Gear and class scaling were the only variables.

With Wrath the game started to transition to something else. Threat was no longer that big an issue. Damage dealers started to have set rotations, where before it was either spam this skill while keeping a debuff or two up or right click target and press these 2 abilities when they come back up. You could actually start to mess things up if you weren't paying attention. Healing was still stuck in the old MUST SPAM MY CLASS SPELL (rejuv, chain heal, flash of light and so on). Scaling was starting to normalize, no longer were attack classes starting off below casters then became untouchable with end of expansion gear.

With Cataclysm came the next step. Design went from static rotation (1-2-3-4-repeat) to a dynamic one (spam 1-2 but press 3 or 4 or 5 when they light up). Haste was improved. Before it only reduced cast times + Show Spoiler +

GCD came a bit later, towards the end of TBC

. Late Wrath, around ICC, it started increasing DoT frequency and duration + Show Spoiler +

so a tick every 3s for 18s DoT always had 6 ticks, haste made them tick faster but the same overall number of ticks; 20% haste meant the above spell was ticking every 2.5s for 15s

. As of Cata, DoT spells could gain extra ticks + Show Spoiler +

using old example: 20% haste meant above spell ticks every 2.5s for 17.5s

. Stats were brought closer together, math became really important as secondaries depended on one another. Tanks remained simple damage sponges. Healers still didn't really care about mana after the first tier. The biggest change however was that class tools were standardized. Every dps spec had access to some burst, some sustained damage, survival tools, some aoe, some cleave. All that "bring the player not the class" philosophy was starting to be felt in-game.

At that point flavor went out the window, all for the sake of "competitive" raid progress.

Come Mists, tanks and healers were roughly brought in line with dps as far as mechanics and awareness go (or "skill" if you want to). Strong survival tools were introduced as "Active Mitigation" (even now they are on par with 2min cooldowns). Fixed mana pools almost let healers care about it for a while, before spirit regen went out of control.

Looking back at history is a little funny. After taking a long break between Cata and Mists, Pandaria feels like a complete reset. Rediscovering all the subtle gameplay felt like vanilla again. WoD feels just like TBC did, improved on what was there already but still has some big weaknesses, just like Burning Crusade did. I have very high hopes for Legion

Edit: managed to forget why I started this post. I think Foundry is the best raid to date (mind you I did no real progress in DS, first pandaria tier or ToT).

Timewalker cataclysm scaling is actually decent - like doing the dungeons on Normal Mode. Fights took us over 1 minute (PUG, 2 good DPS) and one person ignored an important mechanic and died in 3 seconds

The timewalker cata's are actually on Heroic, but player damage is very high. There are other things like the bombing run in grim batol is not tuned properly, you just kill everything on the way to the first boss 100%
