ST is an important performance metric, you can look at different bosses individually or all bosses for raidwide DPS but DPS doesn't always mean performance (can be padded etc on AOE without helping the fight more)

Sim doesn't show a lot of important stuff like the way that MM/BM cleave, pet downtime etc unless you look closely
MM can do massive cleave over half of the boss room without compromising ST damage - BM can only cleave within ~12 yards (beast cleave) and has to lose a lot of ST damage to go into "AOE-mode" etc

Can anyone give me their deep personal review of Legion? I'm thinking about coming back, and I haven't seriously played since Wrath and a little of Cataclysm.

Did normal until Xavius with my guild today, then wiped there several times . But I have to say I did not like the raid at all. Idk if its just the nightmare theme, but it all felt so cluttered / unclear / ugly etc. And the Xavius room is just as ugly as can be. Also never liked this walking plants shit.

Professions are in the gutter and some classes are in weird spots right now but overall its the best addon yet. Then again the same was said about Draenor. Mythic+ certainly adds a whole nother layer that challenge mode did not have, so thats good. Dont know how good raids are and not really interested. Worldquests are easier and a bit more fun to grind than the normal daily quests from previous expansions.

It's not even a room, it's a grey blob (wtf)
Professions are in the gutter
Professions are in the best state they've been in for a very long time IMO

Plus we have the most data for the early fights. There's very, very little data for Cenarius and Xavius, but that data appears to have equal weight to all other fights and is skewing the average.
Basically, don't use the average because it's meaningless. Look at individual fights and draw conclusions based on the nature of that fight.

What makes them in a good state? I mean, they can't possibly be any worse than they were in Draenor, but still. Details like this are what I'm wondering. I've read reviews on Kotaku and Polygon and stuff, but info from people who are actively putting time and money into the game is what I'm after.

Professions are more involved, you have quests to go into the world and do stuff rather than just getting it all from a trainer
Crafted gear is also great entry gear for raiding or m+

How so? With the lack of daily cooldowns and no requirement to have them at 800 there is no reason to pick any crafting profession that is not alchemy or enchanting. Sure gathering professions are profitable right now, but its the first raid week and they already announced the trader anyway.
Edit: the quests are nice, sure.

edit: Yay just 860 relic from 830 world quests. With the new max item lvl it is really worth to do all of those no matter what you have since they upgrade so often.

There are a lot of quests per profession (as many as 50+) for unlocking and upgrading recipies etc. There's a strong economy rewarding all professions at the moment that was not there for much or all of some previous expansions - gathering professions make a lot of good/useful stuff and can obliterate many items to form Obliterum which is used to upgrade any crafted item to a fairly strong item level. Since the crafted stuff is in high demand, gathering professions give great money too - i've made probably 80 euros (token price) of gold from casual skinning in the last 3 weeks while playing the game.

Holy crap, that's awesome! Are class halls as cool as they were promoted? For that matter, how are the actual classes? Fun to play? Decently balanced? Are raids and dungeons fun (both as raids and dungeons and as whatever playable class)?

They're pretty cool IMO and i've got a few friends who are playing through chars @100 just to see the class halls, artifact quests etc.
Most classes fun i think, balance is fairly good but there are a couple of classes struggling and many classes have a great spec and an awful spec right now. "THE" balance patch is coming in a week so hopefully it delivers.
I'm a little disappointed in emerald nightmare (a few of the 7 fights are poorly designed IMO) but dungeons delivering 110%

Alchemy market has gone nuts as expected at raid starts. Was selling deadly grace pots for 700 and int flasks for 1600 last night.

Mythic+ has been a blast
had fun raiding but mostly because I haven't raided in a while and disc fucking rocks.
half our raid got stunned by dragons on normal cause we fucked up and we killed it anyway lool.

What about Demon Hunter specifically? They've never done a two-spec class before that I know of. Is it pretty quality? I wanted to go back to my warrior for a bit to get a feel for tanking again (wife's a healer), and then I was considering swapping to Demon Hunter to tank.

Class halls are imbalanced as fuck haha. Some classes get portals to the hall and out of the hall (druid and dk that i know of at least). Druids hall is ridiculously beautiful and you can ride inside and it has portals to all over the world. Then there is priest which has one big hall inside dalaran. To get to it you have to hearthstone to dalaran, then run for half a minute to arrive at the portal, then you cant ride inside and have to run another 30 seconds from the entrance to the table and even more to get to the weapon stuff. Lorewise priest got a bit screwed as well as they are literally sidelined in their own campaign by paladins and they have no big known follower. Yes, im a bit bitter but im not the only one. It doesnt affect gameplay though, so its just flavor, that shouldnt be a criteria for or against getting the game.

Druid also has to run forever after porting home and everything is way too spread out.. I like my monk one, all close together.

Thank you guys so much for the swift and informative replies. You've all been very helpful so far. I'll continue to keep track of this thread for as much info involving personal experiences as I can so I can make a decision about returning or not.
