At least 20 Lenin monuments have been brought down in the last 24 hours all over Ukraine.

SBU has opened criminal proceedings against Kharkiv mayor Kernes and Kharkiv Oblast governor Dobkin because of separatism. In Ukraine the actions aimed to disrupt the territorial integrity of the country are against the law. Tomorrow they are supposed to lead the gathering of Eastern and Southern regions in Kharkiv.

Yanukovich was apparently in a rush, the flight wasn't planned before and he didn't go back to his residence before leaving.

update: the plane didn't land in Kharkiv and went straight to Sochi.

Ah, time for a face-to-face chat with the Sithlord.

i don't think he'll ever set foot in the ukraine again if he didn't stop at kharkov and went straight for sochi.

now the question is has putin regained his intelligence or is he going to continue fucking up like he has been over the last two months. he went from outmaneuvering the west on issue after issue to having his pseudo-vassal have to flee russia's most important wannabe-fief like a thief in the night.

Yeah, there's no way that he can return to the Ukraine now that he has exposed himself so blatantly as Moscow's tool.

And good point on Putin. He had been absolutely masterful in his conduct of foreign policy over the past several years. This Ukraine situation could backfire badly on him, but it is too early to tell. It all depends on who comes into power.

Oh come on guys, he just wanted to see last two days of the olympics and you jump to conclusions already calling him tool. O_O

On a serious note, this move may indicate that he is not going to honour the agreement and went to his master to negotiate help.

I just hope the government wins out in all this. This whole "revolution" is just a bunch of people who're pissed off that the government doesn't want to join the EU and took a loan from Russia. Anyone who says their country should join that god awful union needs to be set on fire in the streets.

Just to clear this for people like the poster above.
This conflict is going on for 3 month now and eurointegration was the main demand only for the first few weeks. Many things have happened and focus of requests has changed several times. After our government clearly showed that it not only doesn't care about our interests but also disregards out lives, we had much more glaring "issues" at our hands.

First and foremost, Ukrainian people were fighting against corrupt government and totalitarian laws.

It looks like Putin refused to meet with yanukovich, after changing its course several times plane finally landed in Fujairah International Airport, United Arab Emirates.
Although, there is no certainty if yanukovich even was on its board because there are conflicting reports saying that he is currently (or at least was during night) in Kharkiv.

Are you seriously suggesting anyone would want to live in a country run by Banderovci? It's not the people in east Ukraine's fault Ukraine had a weak leader who made concession after concession to a bunch of idiots who don't even control the riots. Right now self defense forces are being set up in Odessa, Sevastopol and other cities so they can protect themselves from the ethnic cleansing that comes next if Yanukovych falls, and they have every right to do so.

He has a very good reason to be angry/mad. What you just said is a pile of bullshit that anyone who was at Maidan can disprove. What's worse, it's an old bullshit. Do you remember "Orange revolution"? The very same lies were also spread during it, but there was exactly zero proofs to back it up.
The same story is repeating now, and just like then it is nothing more than a silly scarecrow for those who don't know what is actually happening in Kiev and can't personally meat people who are standing at Maidan.

These 'self defense forces' are Putin's next gambit, trying to create a new conflict using regions he has more control over, and most likely trying to bait out another skirmish between Ukrainians and Russian troops, so that he has an excuse to intervene, just like in Georgia. But people are wise to this now, so I doubt it will work.

I think the only reason why Putin has been outmaneuvering the West in recent years is that Putin was playing a different game to everyone else. In 2008, the EU and the US considered Russia the same as, well, France or Germany, reasonable diplomatic partners. Since then, they have realized that Putin is playing some weird zero sum game aimed an influence expansion, and they are slowly starting to push back.

Just as a sidenote, Zeo, can you find a single piece of evidence for ethnic cleansing in Ukraine? Or do you always blindly believe what the Russian media tells you?

To be fair, we will see how many people protesting on Maidan are with the opposition that made peace with the government, and how many would rather side with Pravyi Sektor. Hopefully, the reasonable people leave Maidan after the concessions and Yanukovich may disperse the extremists.

I think everyone who have any doubts about what happened in Kiev 2 days ago should watch this.

On another note. Guys, don't waste your time responding to zeo, it's pretty obvious at this point that he doesn't know anything aside of what Russian mass media tells him.

Yanukovich or whoever else. Police forces should have no remorse now, when there are only nazis roaming and trashing the streets.

The only people who are trashing streets (or trying to) are titushki thugs hired by the government during last few months. There are no credible reports of violence or robbery conducted by opposition militants.
